Yes, obviously the judgement of every player we've bought and sold must be exactly the same, so I think exactly the same of Zeegelaar as I do of Layun, uh huh.
There is not a person in this world that can convince me Mario Suarez was a good player when he joined us. He was a good player once, but when he joined us? Not a chance in hell.
There's a difference between being a regular starter for a team regularly battling relegation (although he has started 6/10 games this season and only managed 6 starts last season so regular starter is pushing it a bit) and actually playing a key part in teams who are regularly champions/qualifying for Europe and playing in European competition.
But that’s good isn’t it? The Pozzo out /bedwetter brigade hark back to those days when we were sh*t and we knew were sh*t and Jack petchey was our owner , but everyone made a bit of an effort don’t they ? So isn’t that exactly what a lot of people want on here ?
Yeah the big guns that did so well last season. I’m sure Giraldi would have put the money to good use too.
True, but in terms of coefficient the Portuguese league is closer to Turkey and Austria than Italy, so it’s all relative.
Was Layun actually given much of a chance? Didn’t we flog him off at the same time as Vydra? He did score our first PL Pozzo-era goal.
West Brom, Fulham and Sheffield Utd are complete and utter crap though, we would’ve been fine. We had a truly horrendous start last season but Sheffield Utd have ONE point. We’d have been swapping places with Brighton for most of the season.
The only good thing about that performance was 3 points. However, given all teams in the division are trying to win, they all have to deal with trying to do their jobs in deserted stadiums twice a week, with constant change and testing and last minute changes to personnel etc. I'm prepared to just be grateful to see we are 4th and thing could be a lot worse. COYH
Bizarre. Yes of course everyone who is anti Pozzo wants us to have another poor owner and a struggling team. ******ous.
Doucoure and Pereyra would have been off, but Deulofeu would have played, and who knows, we might have had Estupinan. We wouldn't have been great, but the teams that have come up, Sheffield United and Burnley are all weaker than last season. Probably would have been another season of dull football wishing we were in the Championship lol
I reckon we would have got Ivic in for the Premier League anyway. Think he may have given QSF a run for his money!
Nobody wants to see this team of gutless, arrogant spivs, led by a miserable charlatan actually winning. It's a bitter pill to swallow so we take it with whatever dilution we can.
But this is just a short-sighted view I’m afraid. Two months won’t be enough preparation for the PL if this is the standard we have right up until the end of the season and you’re happy with. We’d get thumped out of sight most weeks as don’t apply nearly enough pressure for the whole 90 mins yet invite pressure to be applied on us for at least 45 mins each week. It’s only the standard of the opposition and the general quality of this league that he us where we are in the table right now. The style and performances MUST improve if you want promotion as well as a fighting chance of retaining a PL position. It amazes me frankly how many of our fans don’t accept and realise the above points.
At least he was a ‘weak as piss’ player who remained fit. Unlike our supposed ‘midfield/creative saviour’ Will Hughes who is built exactly the same and seems to break conveniently every time it’s mentioned that he might play more than 10 mins.
He wasn’t rubbish. Not even close to it in my opinion. But then a lot of this is in the eye of the beholder because someone above has said Garner stood out today and had a great game - whereas I thought he was absolute gash. Again.
I would certainly agree with you that Garner was rubbish today, and has been generally as well. He is a Man Utd player though, and may still yet go on to do good things in football. If he does, it won’t change the fact that he was utter turd for us, though.
I don’t think that has to be the case though . I’d imagine the Pozzos will being in a new coach if we go up . In Quiques first season the style of play changed beyond recognition from Jokas , but we still stayed up comfortably .
Tbf, whether we play sexy football or not in the Championship, whenever we're next in the Premier League, we're gonna be up against it and will probably revert to negative football. This season is very important as it'll only get harder to go up if we don't do it this season, could be the difference between us being a yoyo side or back to being a mid-table Championship side...take your pick of what you prefer
But you won’t suddenly turn a squad of players programmed to bore their way into promotion, into more expansive players in 2 months regardless of who the new manager is - not without a massive clearout and huge recruitment. Especially when some of them are already old, will have another year on the clock and still on long contracts. I think there’s still something rotten at the club. And it hasn’t been rooted out fully by Ivic and rather than be the antidote that should have taken that away, Ivic’s style is actually slowly adding to it. A few positive results just allows heads to be buried in the sand a bit longer. Things need to change before the end of the season. I do agree that Ivic will be gone at the end of the season if he’s still in a job then though. I will add, winning a game of football is still the most important factor to me. But for many reasons, I used to feel far more joy at winning and watching us play than I do now. There is just zero entertainment on show and winning feels like a bit of a minor footnote at times.
I have a confession to make. For years or more accurately decades I have been longing for the opportunity to watch every Watford game. I can only get to a game or two a season and watch the games that Sky show us live. The hive live service is a brilliant development for overseas fans (notwithstanding the delay). But at half time today, I stopped watching. I left my youngest son (16) to watch it and when I hear the roars of disapproval or excitement from him, I would pop back into the sitting room to see what had happened. Troy’s two misses were the most expletive ridden outbursts that got me back into the sitting room. I stayed to watch the last 10 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the win and the debate with my son about the penalty decision. I thought it was soft and he wouldn’t hear of it. I love winning, but I think we should try to win away from home, rather than let it accidentally happen. I would have a few thoughts. We seem to play for a 0-0 away from home. This is wrong, in my view. We need to be more attack minded and creative. We were hampered by missing players today, but we didn’t look like we were trying to score in the first half. What about attack being the best form of defence? Capoue wants out of Watford and his attitude displays this desire. He has given great service to the club, but, in the interests of both parties, time for a parting. As so many have commented, we need a left back, need to play 4/4/2, need to play with more joy and inventiveness, need to build up a team bonding ahead of the promotion push. I would not give up on Ivic or Troy. We are in a good position and I think we one or two additions and some offloading, we will be there or there abouts in April or May, particularly if we have more confidence in our ability and more passion in our play. Over to you Ivic.
