You can't bring young players through if they're not good enough. Quina, Wilmot, Pedro would not have been good enough to be prem regulars.

That’s true but, even if they are good enough, the mindset of most PL clubs is not to risk youngsters because they are so scared of being relegated.

Alas no,I was hitting tennis balls but good to hear someone asked that question.
I have it from the so called "reliable sauce" that he punched someone whose name rhymes with "Beano".
This is IBB,on the sofa but NOT with Simon, who looks very sinister.

Well that was absolutely sh*t. What a waste of time. Duxbury has gradually lost the plot since arriving at the club. His decline in trust and transparency is fairly remarkable. Politician's 'answers' all night and got touchy when challenged, hence there were no real tough questions being asked. Didn't hear anything regarding Giraldi?

    Pathetic.

Ivic is great though, got to love him!

I think his position is coming under threat.

If he does get the boot I'm not confident we'll stay up.

The club did do very well helping the NHS and supporting the key workers ensuring they were looked after.

    All very positive PR.

Then we had half the squad and manager questioning if the season should start before quickly returning to training (like Deeney)

And of course that party which caused some players to miss a game.

    Back to negative PR.

All this before the Pearson saga.

I was looking forward to my question being read out......but they missed it.

It was.........Is it true.....when the club hires a new coach, they now give a questionnaire?

I heard it only has one question, but with three possible answers.

Q1. If you find yourself losing 0-3 at half time, what do you do?

A1. Constructively work out the problem and put solutions in place.
A2. Rant and rave, throw a few tea cups about the place.
A3. Punch Gino Pozzo in the face.

I guess the last guy went for 'A3'.......but Ivic's answer was.....none of the above.....because we'd never be 0-3 down at half time in the first place!!

"Welcome to Watford......you've got the job"

Scott.....is there any truth in that?

Frankly after the last ' At Your Place' event, if anyone was expecting a straight answer or enthusiasm from Duxbury, then more fool them. Genuinely don't know why he suggests these things or attends them as he clearly doesn't like them and takes exception to fielding fans questions.

Genuinely can't believe he was shocked to hear people think the communication is poor. And was interesting to hear that he is hands on with what communication is put out - so all the shots and mentions of Estupinan and Suarez in pre-season weren't just mischievous unvetted output from the social media team and he was aware of them.

And the Mariappa answer was beyond poor. I'm happy he accepted the club have acted poorly - but it can't have just dawned on him this evening. It's like they realised weeks ago they should have done something - but have still neglected to do so.

I didn't like the bloke from the last event and he's done little to make me think I was wrong about him. Repeated claims that it's 'time we all come together' when he seems the most reluctant to do so...no thanks.

Felt the statement at the end of last season needed more detail and said as much at the time - the fact he repeatedly evaded giving that detail was just uncomfortable.

Well you really need one of the players to add some colour. Deeney would have been great. Duxbury is very bland and Ivic is a serious guy.

This is where you really miss people like GT not being around anymore. He was a brilliant speaker in these type of events, honest, articulate and witty.

Yep. Such a shame that he's guaranteed to get sacked if we don't go up. The club should be backing him with a long term contract and allowing him to stamp his authority/DNA all over the football side of the club on a long term basis.

I just wanted the first 12 questions to be -

"The squad looks mostly good but why didn't we sign a left back?"

To be honest I got the impression they didn’t realise there was any real demand for it until it kept being mentioned in the YouTube chat. Didn’t the question about it come just after a break? I bet they realised it needed addressing and set the question up accordingly.

But surely they must have known for weeks it looks odd? To announce departures for Holebas and Gomes and not him was ridiculous to even the most dim-witted bystanders well before today. It's been a really poor look in my opinion.

I took it negotiations went on until the latter part of the transfer window and if so, I don’t think it’s that confusing. If they ended weeks ago it makes much less sense.

Anyway, it was a rare candid answer and apology, so I think it’s churlish not to take it and move on.

I don’t know, he did say he preferred a 1-0 over a 4-3 which is clear to see.

I really do like him as a man and how he presents himself and I know we’re little old Watford and will never regularly dominate games but I would like to consistently see a team that creates chances. We haven’t had one enjoyable watch so far this season, very early doors and lot of players to return but if it still doesn’t change after that then I’ll be a bit upset.

I did not understand Duxburrys point that we lost some of our DNA of bringing through young players. I had not appreciated that had been core to the first team before this season. We seem to have recruited loads as much for trading purposes as commodities rather than as first team members. Of course there have been examples like Hughes and Richarlison. Seems to me we tended to try and rehash careers of established players, The promotion side was not built around young players. Our recruitment has included as many Holebas aged players as Hughes aged players. Many of the young players have been gash. Berghuis, Oulare, Success, Sinclair - Others never seen, and most borderline Premier League quality.

someday we might find out why the squad imploded in the 2019/20 season.

There’s not a great deal that’s going to be created when you’ve got Pedro and Quina leading the line, I’m sure it will improve when our strikers are back.

I had to stop for a second after Duxbury had said weeks of negotiations thinking it was a potential new transfer target that would actually improve the 1st team but no he was talking about a player who shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team any longer.

  32. Tbf I get Duxbury’s point and I’ve thought similar for a while.

Last season Chalobah, TDB, Quina couldn’t get near the side, whilst we loaned out yet again Suarez, Estupinan, Cucho etc. We’ve wasted whatever potential Peneranda had.

Instead over the last few seasons we signed and played the likes of Mariappa, Dawson and Welbeck.

If anything big Nige seemed to revel in us losing the cup game playing the youngsters as if it somehow proved him right. What an awful way to demotivate young players.

This hasn't been the Pozzo model we were all expecting.

The first 3 just weren’t good enough to get in a side that was relegated.
Suarez before last season had done nothing to suggest he would succeed in the Prem and clearly didn’t want to come to the UK.
Estupinan didn’t want to come to UK.
Cucho barely scored last season in Spain. Might warrant a Trial in the champ later this season.
The Pozzo model is to buy youngsters, develop them and sell them at a profit. They don’t need to be developed at a Pozzo club unless it makes sense. No way would we have survived 5 seasons in the prem if we’d have flooded the team with untried kids in the hope of developing a few of them to sell on and make the Pozzos a profit.

No coach is going to say 4-3 though really. That indicates almost incompetent defensive tactics. Given the two choices it’s always 1-0. I’m sure he personally would say 1-0, 2-0, 3-0. Anything which includes a clean sheet but sometimes not easy when put on the spot and English is not your first language.

Thought he handled the Elton John question quite well when he clearly either has never heard one of his songs or hates them with a passion!

It isn't that they have to be regular starters in the Prem, but any of them could have been used intermittently, partly to build up experience, and partly to give some of the wasters a kick up the arse.. No one is convincing me that Pedro wouldn't have contributed as much as Pereyra, for example.
