Duxbury continues to be great value for money.
His job is to bland out the faults and give out the retirement presents/accolades-he can't even do that right.

'Cornuti' for the Pozzo-appropriate Italic leaning.

This is very harsh revisionism. My memory is that the club were actively try to sell players in January 2012 because of the dire ownership situation (this is when Sordell left). Mariappa turned down moves to Newcastle and Wigan to stay at Watford and only left for Reading after the Pozzo takeover.

Another interesting answer (to me) was Duxbury saying relegation from the Premier League should be a sporting disappointment not a financial disaster. He said that the financial gulf between Premier League and Championship was too big.

This implied to me that the experience of the last five years was a financial challenge for the owners. One that while known, was a great concern. It also suggested that Watford would support a restructuring of the pyramid that brought the two closer together. Perhaps something like a Premier League 1 and 2 of say 16 clubs each. Watford would seem to be thinking top 30 status would be more practicable for the model than striving to be in the top 17.

But he said we were going to be the best of the rest,i.e 7th.
We cannot compete under FFP with most of the PL clubs so unless we have an excellent scouting network and/or youth system we will eventually get relegated.
The only fair system would be to penalise the bigger clubs by introducing a salary cap but that isn't going to happen.
There will eventually be a netflix style tv deal where PL clubs will significantly increase their tv revenues(treble?) and that is something the "smaller" PL teams should be advocating for.
The lower league teams are going to end up like the high street-gradually going part time/out of business.
Unfortunately money always wins so the 72 will be slowly whittled down.
I'd love to be more optimistic about the FL and hope I'm wrong.

Following up on the Mariappa thing from the At Your Place, I saw that at least Hornet Heaven has put out a tribute episode to say thank you and goodbye.

It's not quite a dinner at a posh hotel, but at least a few deceased Watford fans in a podcast have wished him well.
