True. It seems all Argies are wimps. We shouldn't have stopped after re-taking the Falklands. Once we got past the yoofs who threw stones at Jeremy Clarkson, Buenos Aires would have fallen within a 48hrs.
I think a (theoretical) question we should ask ourselves with any signing we make from our Italian sister club is would we have signed this player were they coming from elsewhere? I’d like to think the answer would be yes for Troost-Ekong but I suspect we all the know the answer for the likes of Pussetto and Sierralta.
Same for the younguns we recall from their Granada B loans. Sure I'd welcome Suarez over the alternatives we have in our squad, but would we have scouted and paid £15m for him to come here from A N Other European side?
I wonder how much Pussetto is on. Didn’t he sign a 5 year deal with us? You’ve got to think it will be £20k-30k per week. If we are worried about Capoue’s wage then this is a real millstone around our necks for a player who is unable to contribute.
Let's be honest, we've got plenty of those players who are on the books, do not contribute, but if you add them all up, cost a lot of money in wages. Success, Sinclair, Pussetto, Penaranda, Navarro. Gray can be added to this group as he's on a massive wage compared to what he's given the club. Of course, not the player's fault, I blame the club for collecting so many players who are basically just squad players at a push, but will never break through to the first team on a regular basis. Can Watford really afford to have non contributing players on decent wages? No, but these are errors the club has made, and once it's clear the players are really at the level we need, it's hard to move them on. If they're no good for us, then our rivals wont want them either. They cannot drop down a league because no one can match the wage so we're pretty much stuck with them.
I think we'd be pretty excited all told if we signed a decent Serie A player who captains his country had he not come from Udinese, in fact it's probably because he came from there (and possibly his English links early in his career) which meant the move possible
I think we have left it far too long for a second attempt. Would be good to finally have a colony on mainland Sth America.
How is Success still stealing a living at our club, and how much longer are we stuck with this underperforming millstone?
Surely by applying the same logic by which the Argies claim the falklands we could claim mainland Argentina?
As I mentioned in my original post, it’s only theoretical. But I’d have Troost in the same category as Kabasele who we signed from outside the Udinese pool. I think if he were at another Italian club and available for transfer at a non-extortionate fee, we might have looked at him.
We paid £6-8mil for him, depending on what report you read. If we get that back, then great. Doesn’t really fit English football. He’s too lightweight. He needs to do what Pedro done, gain a stone and baulk up if he stays.
Would that be of interest to him I wonder? A newly promoted team who haven't started well, while Pussetto has been a regular for a much more established Serie A club in the past. If true, I'd drive him there Covid be damned!
Said he’s given the move the ‘ok’ according to the article. https://gianlucadimarzio.com/en/crotone-target-is-pussetto-from-watford-the-player-gave-his-ok But also says we class him as an important player!
Isn't that actually the sign of our most important players at the moment? Anyone who's a household name outside of their own household can't get a game for us.
