He was completely anonymous. Very disappointing

Yes but this will be more than compensated for with the release of some new training photos with him in track suit and smiling with Ivic. That will more than ease the pain after the humiliating defeat.

AL in his latest article on Sarr uses the phrase loan a lot. I’m convinced as Duncan Castles has alluded to the entire summer, we will happily loan out Sarr with no obligation to buy. As to where, I suspect United or Villa next week.

He uses the word loan three times in the article, and never once does he describe a vanilla loan, so I am not sure there is anything in that:

"Sarr’s representatives are in regular contact with the hierarchy at Watford, in particular owner Gino Pozzo, and their aim is to find a club that are willing to meet the £40-50 million valuation. If that happens then the deal will advance, with a straight sale the preferred option. However, a loan with an option to buy or even a sale and loan back to Watford may come into the offing if the financial package is right."

"Manchester United made initial inquiries in January but with other targets — notably Jadon Sancho — the prospect of an approach for a permanent or loan deal is not understood to be imminent. "

The article suggests we are asking for £40m with add-ons taking it above £50m. There very few clubs in the world stupid enough to spend that kind of money on him, and in the article he explains why none of them are really interested.

If we do want to sell - I don't know why we are totally pricing out buyers.

If we don't want to sell - I don't understand why he is not playing

Loan with option to buy is more the fear, which is mentioned. I’m basing this more on DC who’s sources at Watford are impeccable. Are stance makes no sense, with him not playing, but being priced to a point he will never be sold at. That only really leaves a loan?

His attitude is by all accounts very good and he is happy to play. His wages are fairly low. A loan with an option makes very little sense to be honest unless there is a significant loan fee.

I have always found Duncan Castles to be full of ***** to be honest. All he reports is what his bedfellow Mourinho tells him to say.

Agree a loan makes no sense, and I’d be raging. But suppose Gino sees it as an opportunity to increase his value with a good season in the prem.

For me he literally has to stay, we’re pretty much ****ed if not.

Also agree that he’s generally full of ****, but his Watford sources are fantastic.

Can't see why they'd loan him out, unless there's some mental loan fee attached. The prize of promotion is far more than a standard loan fee.

There's no if about it. He wants to sell. Leventhal even states that he won't be played against Luton.

With addons, we paid about £40m for Sarr. They are desperate for a return on that investment and think by holding on til deadline day, teams will become equally desperate and pay £40m+ for a player who's very inconsistent and very raw still.

Those aren't the only two possibilities though are they?!

It could be that we're not playing him because we do want to sell.

However, the fact that he hasn't been sold yet doesn't mean that "we are totally pricing out buyers" - for instance, it's not out the question that our asking price is totally reasonable and justifiable, and clubs like Liverpool are completely capable of affording it should they wish; and it's not that Liverpool are being "priced out" but are just trying to be cheapskates as always and we're rightfully not giving in until they cough up.

For all the hype (largely from themselves) around the Pozzo model - bar Richarlison, which young players did we actually use and then sell on for profit?

I'd go as far as to say during our 5 years in the PL we were comfortably the worst club in the division and buying and developing young players.

They don't talk about the Parish model or the Garlick model, but Palace, Burnley, Brighton, Southampton, Leicester etc all they seem to do significantly better at it. All we do is piss money away on absolute dross like Success and Penaranda and then claim we are doing amazing business when we make a profit on selling Richarlison.

I also enjoy the meaninglessness of it, to be fair, as though today's talented young players are labouring under the idea that certain small-medium sized clubs are just locked-vault black holes who, once signed for, will throw away the key, keeping them there for the rest of their career with no negotiation.

Duncan Castles source is Kevin Affleck. If I know that, then you can be sure the clubs owners know that surely? So if news leaks out, they will know the source. And Affleck just conducts interviews so I doubt he's totally expendable.

Duncan Castles has also got plenty wrong about us in the past.

I'm not saying he's wrong. But I'm not saying he's entirely trustworthy either. He's a journalist looking for clicks after all.

It is sometimes in the clubs interest though for news to get out.

If the club really did want to either sell or loan out Sarr, it wouldn't surprise me if they got Affleck to pass the message on to DC so everyone knew.

Quite. I’m just giving the other side of the coin where it wouldn’t surprise me equally if Duncan Castles has made it up.

I’m wary of sports media (and especially tabloid media) these days - I just don’t really believe a word that any of these ‘transfer experts’ say ie: Castles, Darmesh Sheth, Karveh Sholekol, Guillem Balague- They can spout any old nonsense unabated and not a word of it has to be true.

That Fabrizio Romano guy seems to be the only one who has wide-ranging truthful sources.

They absolutely do this, like their usual smear campaigns they run of former (or sometimes current managers), however I'd imagine they would give it to a journo who isn't regarded as a total bullshitter.

Well if Villa are getting involved I expect one hell of a crazy offer incoming soon. 33m for Watkins has set the benchmark.

Doucoure, Lukebakio(questionable as he didn't really play), Richarlison, Ighalo, Vydra I think would be the main ones.

But I agree with the overall point that we completely wasted our 5 years in the biggest shop window in world football to show off players like Pedro, Estupinan, Suarez, Cucho (work permit permitting) Success, Penaranda, Dahlberg, Wilmot, Berghuis who may or may not have been successful, but were never given a run of games to build up form and show what they could do. I can see why Head Coaches and Gino played it safe by playing more experienced but less exciting players to help us stay up, but it's still a shame.

My issue isn't their inability to spot talent, which they clearly can do. It is with their utter inability to integrate them, and thus put them in the shop window.

3 of those 6 were signed in the championship. Doucoure succeeded purely by here by accident as the club did their best to make sure he didn't succeed with their absolutely mental attempts to force him out on loan not including him in the squad for 6 months. Lukebakio never make the squad despite ****** attitude / ****** player Carillo playing reguarly. Richarlison is the only one I think they really got right.

Until they solve the ******* circus of (1) firing managers if they lose 3 or 4 games (2) not telling them who they are signing (3) signing players out of position (4) loaning players out who would potentially be of use to the first team nothing will change.

Part of the reason we lost Pape Gueye is because we were going to force him on loan to Udinese (without telling him). He is now starting for one of the best clubs in France. When you compare him to Cleverely, Chalobah, Quina,Dele-Bashiru who would have stayed here ahead of him you really do have to wonder what the **** is going on in their heads.

Hopefully any "option to buy" will only kick in if we do not go back up.
We obviously need the (£10m?) loan fee & his wages off the bill this season.

We clearly seem to need the cash injection of a loan fee; lets hope that the finances are not so bad that we need to get ANY wages off the bill!

Gone from wanting United to get Sancho so they leave Sarr alone, to hoping Dortmund keep Sancho so they leave Sarr alone. Ismaila has been identified as a potential replacement at Dortmund is Sancho goes, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Was in the process of posting that. Still think other potential replacements are more likely. Hudson-Odoi would be a smart replacement. Depay if he doesn't go to Barca. Both would probably be the same price as Sarr.

So with a Liverpool allegedly according to Sky via Daily Express agreed a fee with Watford, does that mean we’ll be in the market for another whinger, I mean winger?

I wouldn’t be overly worried about Dortmund - unless we plan on actually loaning out our best player who’s happy to stay. They would have to double their record fee to get Sarr, no way they spend what we want.

What's their record fee? I don't think Sarr is outside their price range at all, especially if they do sell Sancho
