Legends don’t admit to being unfit every season, allowing their ego to stand in the way of a relegation battle or dig out other professionals regularly. They carry themselves better than that.

Each to their own. He’s lost his right to be called a Watford legend to me. He’s just a striker who has done very well for us who I have no ill-feeling towards. But any more grandeur for him is lost really. I can’t reconcile that latest interview at the weekend personally.

I don't think he was being personal. I think he was pointing out he scored more goals than them combined, in a relegated team, at a fraction of the cost. He wasn't nasty towards them

By quoting transfer fee’s and stating their tallies in comparison, as a professional, he was being disrespectful. He didn’t need to bring them into it.

I concur, i read the article and it came across as disrespectful. I like Troy but sometimes you have to think that he should just keep his mouth shut as he usually ends up making himself look a bit of a prat.

At this point in time i don't see anyone in the premiership taking a chance on him.

Going forward, the way he speaks disrespectfully I can't see a media career beyond TalkSport. He's not BBC material.

Just seen an article on the Wobby site saying WBA are interested in taking GRAY on loan, does this mean they are no longer interested in TD, will he not like that :D

It's funny how things can be perceived. If Deeney had been passed fit by a doctor or a physio and refused to play on the basis that he didn't feel right, he'd have been slaughtered.

  11. Burnsy

    Burnsy First Team

Would he? Firstly I doubt such a contrast of views would be made public. And secondly, in context, had he come out and said ‘the physios think I’m fit to play but my performances say different and I know my body isn’t up to it’, I think a lot of fans would have accepted that. Because the evidence was playing out in front of us anyway.

I just don’t think there is a valid excuse for what he has said.

Fun watching people getting their knickers in a twist about me saying I "hate" him. I do hate him. As a footballer I 100% hate him.

Obviously it's not the same as genuinely hating someone in the real world who has directly wronged you or whatever else the case may be - I wish no harm or suffering on him - but as a footballer (I use that term loosely at this point) at this club I despise him and cannot wait for him to f**k off.

Another cringeworthy interview from him as well. His ego truly does know no limits.

Marlon King didn't spend literally years here slowly tarnishing whatever legacy he may have had with a simultaneously growing ego and declining ability on the pitch, desperately trying to build a media career during his playing career, and hold so much power within the club that he became undroppable even when clearly injured, to the detriment of the team.

He was also a far more enjoyable footballer to watch.

I wonder, if Troy joined this forum, what he'd call himself and what he'd mainly talk about...

Not in footballing terms but King certainly as a human being would have gone down in the eyes of many people after his various convictions albeit they were after he left us..

I mean you are right - he should be regarded as a hero as much as Deeney to some extent as his goals got us up.

He'd have been accused of lacking fight and bottling a relegation scrap, let's be realistic here.

Deeney says a lot of stupid things but this is pretty minor to be honest. Players play all the time when they don't feel fully fit.

The fact that he still considers himself a PL standard player is far more alarming.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Him believing he is still a PL standard player doesn’t affect us. He’s free to think that. But for him to admit for the 4th year in a row that he was unprofessional and not fit enough for the season, on top of saying he shouldn’t have played at the end of such a crucial season for us - I don’t just brush that off as something players say or do. He’s captain and should be held to higher standards than that.

I’ve never been a Deeney-hater. But I’m genuinely taken aback that anyone is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one. He is laying bare the fundamental problems with himself and the club that attributed (not solely) to our relegation last season.

Not even close. King had one full season compared to Troy's c10 year contribution.

Hadn't realised just how bad Marlon's rap sheet has got over the years. What a vile individual he truly is.

    Incidents and legal cases
While on loan to Hull City, King was alleged to have headbutted teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough.

As of October 2009, King had convictions for 14 offences.[64] He received fines, driving bans, community service sentences, a rehabilitation order and orders to pay compensation on convictions including: theft from a person and from a car, criminal damage, and attempting to obtain property by deception; fraudulent use of vehicle licence document, driving without insurance, speeding, drink driving; a wounding incident while playing amateur football, and two cases involving assault of young women rejecting his advances in the Soho area of London.

Three cases led to imprisonment. In May 2002 he received an eighteen-month prison sentence for receiving stolen goods, in relation to a BMW convertible that he was found driving.

In December 2008, again in the Soho area, King was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20-year-old female university student in the face, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later convicted of sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and placed on the Sex Offender Register for seven years. King made an appeal against the conviction which was unsuccessful.

King was arrested and bailed once more in April 2013 after a car crash which left one man seriously injured,[71] and in July of the same year, he was again arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident which had left a second man injured.[72] King pleaded 'not guilty' to the first incident in November of the same year and had a trial date set for March 2014.[73] On 15 May 2014, King of Torksey, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and banned from driving for three years.[2]

Reverse grids and sprint races to decide qualifying and spice things up.

Mercedes seem to be the team most against the idea ..

Seems a bit forced and manufactured tbh doing it like that.

Apart from the myriad other reasons to criticise/be disgusted by that interview, Haller actually scored more goals from open play in the league last season than Troy. That's infamous flop playing in a relegation-threatened team, Sebastien Haller. So what he's 'pointing out' is questionable at best.

The cost is, of course, also a ridiculous and disingenuous red herring, because not only was he bought ten years ago in an entirely different era in terms of both the worth of money and general transfer fees, but he was bought in an entirely different context, as a somewhat promising youth from a lower league team. It's meaningless.
