I haven’t really followed the Championship since its resumption but it does now look like Leeds’ promotion will come to pass at last, sadly. Meanwhile Brentford seem to be on fire with 7 straight wins and three more very winnable fixtures to finish with. It really looks like West Brom must not lose against Fulham tomorrow or they risk missing out on goal difference even if they win their last two. In that case you’d expect them to go on and win the play-offs but that would be far from guaranteed.
Really hope Brentford catch West Brom and go up, would be great for them with their new stadium as well. If they catch West Brom it would also prove what everyone said about PPG being used to promote the teams already in the top spots would have been wrong, again.
Wigan doing their best to avoid the drop. 3-0 v Hull. Middlesbrough 1-0 down. Unfortunately helps Luton.
Amazing from Wigan, especially since their players aren’t being fully paid. Really want them to somehow avoid the drop.
Here's the one from the last time a team scored 7 in a half in the top 4 leagues. Hilarious stuff. http://www.wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/watford-fc-7-2-blackpool-24-01-2015.47024/page-4
Just the 1-0 then 2nd half Always seem to be way - hardly any goals after a team scored loads in first half . Luton v Hull at the weekend. Bit like our West Ham game a real 6 pointer.
Three Counties Radio could have a field day next season at this rate. Has there ever been a Beds, Herts and Bucks team in the same division? (probably Stevenage actually... but not Watford?)
Luton winning again, for once one of their relegation rivals did their job though. Now watch their penalty against QPR be their only shot on target the whole game whatever happens (unless they get another goal which isn't an OG)...
Huge day for the bottom of the Championship - Hull playing Luton and Charlton and Wigan playing one another. So want Wigan to survive. Find myself torn between wanting Luton to drop and looking forward to the prospect of a proper derby match again. But then I consider the possibility of Luton beating us and decide it’s not worth it.
Wigan are safe aren’t they? Even with -12pts there’s no way they’re surrendering their massive goal difference advantage with 2 games to go. Edit: ah I see, if Hull beat Luton the gap shrinks below 12...
Always a silver lining and a trip to Wycombe next season isn’t all bad. I remember them battling with Slough Town for promotion to the football league in about 1993. Saying that it will probably be our Yeovil Town moment.
I’ve always been rather irritated by Wigan’s success myself. So clearly not a football town. To me they belong in League 1 at best.
I admire any team which has managed to turn around its fortunes the way Wigan has done since the restart. They have done everything I hoped we would. To do so well as a team but then be relegated because of things way beyond the control of the fans or players seems cruel to me.
Brentford currently losing. Their chance for the first time to have promotion in their own hands and they are blowing it somewhat. I’m torn here. If as is likely we go down I would like Brentford to replace us. However, I’d also like to play them next season and that would likely have to be in the Championship. They’re moving to a smart new stadium too.
I’m shocked by their performance really, Stoke have defended really well but Brentford have nothing to lose by going for it now.
Gutted for them, bottled it at the big moment. I just hope the same happens to our relegation rivals.
