When were we last involved in a proper relegation battle? In 2004/05 we finished 2 points, but 4 places above the RZ, however, I remember the unsuccessful campaign in 1995/96 far more vividly.
Were we ever actually in the relegation zone that season? Vaguely remember it, mostly for the cup run
In 2010 under Mackay with two games to go it was between us, Palace and Wednesday for the last relegation place. We were just 2 points clear but we won the last two to finish 16th.
Ah yes, back when Tom Cleverley and Henri Lansbury had skillz. Remember the game against Sheffield Wednesday well, put us in the hunt for promotion in October, when by May it played a large part in keeping us up lol
Just looking at the detail - Palace survived (just) despite a 10 point deduction - we ended mid-table (16th) along with 3 other teams on 54 points (we had the best GD). We finished with a 3-0 home win over Reading followed by a 4-0 away win over Coventry. Danny Graham scored 4 of those 7 goals.
Of the bottom six, I can see only Brighton and West Ham getting any points this weekend, putting more pressure on the bottom four. Aston Villa and Bournemouth have really tough run-ins so it is still in our hands. We need at least two wins and maybe two draws. It could be a record points low for staying up this season?
Two more wins will see us safe I reckon. I still reckon Bournemouth will get out of it with results against Spurs and Leicester. It is ridiculous just how crap the bottom 5 are. Best league in the world though...
I can honestly see Bournemouth not getting a point. Howe has lost the squad without doubt. The forums are in meltdown and its hilarious to read. On par with this one.
I think we will get 5 points from the remaining games and I think Villa will get the same. Bournemouth look doomed but you never know, it's a funny old game
West Ham on a Friday night and Tuesday evening for Man City. Both Sky. https://www.premierleague.com/news/1702418
No one is really talking about Norwich, but they have Brighton at home tomorrow. If they win that, then they're just 4 points behind us safety. They will be confident knowing that at win at Watford would put them on the threshold of staying up. The last thing you want is to play a side with renewed hope. They will then play West Ham at home and Burnley at home. It's not impossible to think they could win all those games. Their other two fixtures are Chelsea and City away, so I think it would be a stretch to think they could get results in those games, but they could get 12 more points. They are under the radar and I think we need to hope they either lose or draw tomorrow, just to kill them off a little.
They've won 5 games in 32... They need 3 wins from 6 games to have a chance and that won't probably be enough.
I’m sure there’s a TV picks thread somewhere but I can’t find it...anyway, looks like 3 of our remaining fixtures at least aren’t on free to air and solely on Sky TV. Chelsea today, West Ham and City. I thought most matches would be on free to air tv? Probably a good thing for my heath to be honest anyway.
The club give you a Now TV pass if you have an e-mail address with them so you get free access to watch the game. Like with BT. As you say though will you want to ! BBC had 4 games. Pick had 25 I think ( we have been on twice and v Norwich next week)
They've sent an email out this week. It’s only for the Chelsea game plus one other. I presumed it was to season ticket holders only like the BT one but the email with the Sky codes was addressed to my 3yo and she definitely doesn’t have a season ticket.
Didn’t get an email so assume it’s STH only then. Maybe your daughter got it as she’s linked to you and you have a ST UEA?
We've only won 6 of our last 36 Premier League games, yet people still think we'll win 2 or 3 of our next 6. Reason goes out of the window when you get to the "real" must wins games. Very often a side finds form from absolutely nowhere. If they beat Brighton at home today, Norwich will be right back in it.
Another 2 good results for us today, now lets go and see us **** up the advantage we have gained from them later tonight
I wasn't wrong was I Having said that, I think we actually played better tonight than we have for quite some time, and had we not conceded that late 3rd goal I would have not been too unhappy with the result. All in all, I think we had a decent final 20 mins with the exception of conceding that 3rd goal IMO Welbeck is beginning to look reasonably sharp, and his movement is so much better than Deeney's has been for quite some time, so maybe it's time to start Welbeck instead of Deeney. If we do that, touch wood I think he might score a few goals for us before the end of the season providing his fitness holds up. We looked so much better going forward once Welbeck came on, Massina also seemed to make a fair difference, but I'm not sure if Cleverly even touched the ball. Some of Pearson's subs actually seemed to make a difference for once, though Cleverly did not do much and why oh why did he replace Sarr with Bobby P. Although I admit Sarr was pretty anonymous for most of the game, but as he was just starting to get into the game Pearson went and subbed him, WHY!!! Thankfully, once again other results went our way today and hopefully Villa will get nothing tomorrow seeing as they are playing Liverpool. However, we really must stop relying on others losing and get some points under our belt by winning at least two more games, because IMO six more points might just be enough to keep us in the PL this season.
Potentially good news for us if these two miss the game at the weekend. If it even still matters by then.
