Love Vydra great player. But needs to play off a partner. Can't see us changing the system. Off the bench if chasing a game 100% he should of never been let go in the first place.
Penaranda is back training with Watford. Seems his loan was eventually terminated. Maybe he’s being considered for Quina’s place should he go on loan....
"Off the bench if chasing a game" is what he's mostly been tried out for at Burnley and he has managed just 1 goal in 19 PL appearances across 2 seasons attempting it.
It’s difficult to get value, we know that. West Ham paying £20m for a Slavic Prague player??? One I’d be keen on is Sander Berge from Genk. Has been brilliant in the CL - and can play DM and CB. But seemingly going to Sheff Utd for £17m. Think we should be in for him personally at only 21.
Like the guy personally. Seen him a few times for Norway. Good passer but lacks bite in the tackle. The game does pass him by on occasions. If anything we need competition for Capoue and Doucs. I feel we're very lightweight when either are missing.
Has arrived in England apparently this morning to sign for...Manchester United. According to the Manchester Evening News anyway.
Update from AL on The Athletic:- Gibson: There were informal talks initially over a possible loan. But Burnley turned this down. Unclear (meaning don't know) what the sticking points were. Rose: Our interest has drifted. We'd still be interested if the deal was right, but club don't appear too keen on doing business with Levy after he wasted their time in the summer. Hassane Kamara and Joe Bryan have been looked at but moves for these players seems unlikely. Gray: Watford would prefer to sell, but Leeds interest is now over. Because of Gray's form he's now seen as a "diminishing asset" Success: Looking to loan him out. Cardiff and Anderlect have shown some interest Dahlberg, Dele-Bashiru and Quina all available for loan.
It looks that way. If there are no strong rumours by now, then it's unlikely we'll be signing anyone else in this window. Two or three to go out on loan, but that's about it I suspect.
So moves for Rose and Gibson would likely hinge on their clubs coming to the table to do a deal. We don’t seem desperate to make them happen ourselves. Last hope is that clubs start manoeuvres on Deadline Day that leave an attractive proposition open for us to take advantage of. Unlikely I’d say.
Rose is expected to out on loan so I can see that happening...unfortunately. He'll be leaving for nothing in the summer so right now he's just a cash drain.
He has 18 months left on his contract. Think that’s why Spurs want rid now as he is the type to just sit on the last year of his deal. Given their recent activity, I’m surprised he’s not heading to Inter Milan.
Translation: Giraldi and Pozzo are doing bugger all and hoping Pearson pulls off a miracle. Utterly useless.
Just the usual guff about only signing a centre back if they're an upgrade from Leventhal. So it sounds like we're done for this window because I can't see us shelling out this month. Pretty poor from the club to not have players lined up but January is tough. I assume the Pearson appointment complicated things because he needed to work with the squad and see exactly what was needed.
As RS2 says, it’s beyond annoying to hear that they are after a player who offers a recognised step up in quality at CB. We’ve all known on here that he been needed for at least 18 months now really. It was a must in the summer. I remember nearly 12 months ago to the day, at the At Your Place event, that Giraldi and Duxbury peddled the same line. How has our much ‘celebrated’ scouting model not highlighted anyone yet? Whether we stay up or not, I really do think the owner and Duxbury need to admit their shortcomings publicly to the fans, so we have some sort of hope they won’t be repeated. They were very quick to come out after the Cup Final - they should be just as open this time around. Although I suspect the club will treat survival like a success - and repeat the same lax recruitment mistakes.
I suspect the truth is we are a bit short of cash after the summer. Fair enough, but it shouldn’t be beyond their wit to source a right back on loan to boost numbers and options.
Not over by any means. Players will be come even more available over the next couple of days. With the Euros coming up, agents wanting a winter bonus and some players actually not happy at just collecting a pay check, moves will happen. Fully expect us to sign 2 players between now and close on Friday. Even deadline day it’s easy to sign someone. The fact that there are no rumours is irrelevant. Most of ours signings haven’t even been linked with us before it breaks to the media. So I’m not worried about the lack of media coverage. At the end of the day, we are in a relegation fight, it’s hard to attract players because of where Gino has put us. No-one wants to be in a relegation fight, so the calibre of player we want, compared to what we can attract, if anything, is probably the sticking point. We will see what happens, but I’m confident of 2 new faces through the doors come close on Friday.
If they had the money to bid what they did for Rose in the summer, then there must be some money available. What is horrible to read in that article is that Pearson was impressed with Holebas against Tranmere. Really leaves the fear that they will dish out another 1yr deal, rather than sign a new player. How on earth players like Prodl and Success are still around is terrible. It’s equally as bad that they can’t seem to get either of the younger GK’s out on loan either.
So now that players are returning to fitness, everything is fine on the playing front and we do not need anyone in. Risky!
Yes...it is risky to rely on the same players who have put us in 19th position after 24 matches. Before Villa, I thought we had a good chance of staying up, but that result has changed everything. We're on a knife edge, playing Russian roulette with every up and coming fixture. Lose and we're down, win and it's a stay of execution until the next game, or so it seems. Winning the next two games is the only way we can get back on track, IMO of course. I just don't think we're good enough, or rather consistent enough, to win the next two.
I’d rather we signed no-one than some of the **** we’ve brought in when our preferred targets didn’t happen
That. And that these supposed wonderkids we buy, that one day we sign one and they are good enough to just be thrown in and play.
Exactly. We had the bottle then to just do it. But too often we get these youngsters and seemingly coach any precocious talent out of them through mismanagement.
Half joking, half not. Just losing faith a bit with us actually ever giving these players a steady run of games. He will have to pick his way through Deeney, Joao Pedro and Cucho first. I’d say we have designs on Cucho coming here next season given the videos the club put out. Gray and Success will likely go if we stay up - I think Gray might stay if we go down. But I suspect we will also bring in another striker with a bit of experience. At the moment, Deeney is the road block for any striker at our club.
I've said this before, but I think Suarez is a bigger talent than Cucho and should get ahead of him no problem. Joao Pedro looks a fair way off being able to play as a CF in the PL. Similar to Greenwood at Utd I reckon he'll get most his minutes for the foreseeable future as a wide forward. From what I've seen of his build and playing style so far I'm not entirely sure if he'll ever be a PL number 9 either, as opposed to just staying as a wide forward. Even ignoring Deeney's place in the team, Suarez should be ready to at least take all of the types of minutes we've given Gray over the last couple of seasons.
