Disgrace. No way we are staying up with performances like that. I agreed with dropping all 11 after the debacle at AV but this was worse. Drop them all for the next game I say. Thought Kabs was banned? Will we be docked points for playing him ?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Imagine if we put the first team out, picked up 2 big injuries, and then lost to United - then what? Oh and suppose we had another injury against Man U?

Is it good that we lost? No.
Is it better that we have 10 days break and no more injuries? Yes, in our current predicament.

If we beat Everton, with a fully fit team, then it will have been worth it. Goes both ways.

Injuries, suspensions and red cards from cup games were outlawed this year. There was no risk.

I am delighted we're out. What the **** did some of you want having been forced to play away 2 games in 3 days midweek. Your nuts if you think the likes of Deeney should have played again after Tue.

If it makes you feel better, Man Utd have spent just under £1bn (excluding wages) since fergie left. Not sure of the timings but I’m guessing it is similar to when our fried bas left.

I would candidly suggest that money has not been well spent.

You can get injuries at any time in any game. Do we tell players not to train in case they get injured? No, of course not. It's part of the game. If it happens, it happens. You should not pull players out for fear of injury.

Maybe we should play the U23's against Everton because maybe someone will get injured.....keep them fresh for the Brighton match.

Not really.....I'm only one being honest, while others, including yourself are pretending it's the best result of the season. A fantastic thing to have happened. Ridiculous.

I think you overstate the quality of the side that played tonight tbh. Take into account that this game meant everything to Tranmere. A chance to have a cup run. Probably more important than staying up for them. A chance for old players to have one last shot at glory (relatively) and those, who were never good enough, to play Manure in front of the camera's. On the other hand, Pearson pretty much said that tonight's game wasn't a priority. This must have an impact on our players and probably fired Tranmere up even more.

Consider that we had 3 experienced players out there. It sounds like Holebas and Kabasele played reasonably well. Holebas is not fully fit. Gray is terrible. We had quality in Quina and Pedro. The former is still very lightweight and the latter still adapting to life on the other side of the world. The rest of them probably wouldn't even get into a League 2 team, let alone Tranmere's team. They won't have played in front of a proper crowd before. They won't be remotely used to dealing with situations like tonight, or playing on a ****** pitch. Mentally that's a massive disadvantage imo.

All considered, it's barely a surprise, let alone a shock.

You're missing the point. As you said, it can happen in any game. Look at the premier league as a whole over the Xmas period - Clubs were picking up injuries due to fixture congestion, and some chose to rotate, 2 games in 3 days, 3 games in 5 days = Higher chance of injury.

I don't see how that correlates. So losing tonight improves our chances of beating Everton? That must mean winning tonight would have reduced our chances?

If your mentioning last season... Last season we may have finished higher if we didnt have the cup distraction. This season we cant afford 1 point.

So we only stayed in the premier league because we got to the final of the FA Cup?

I don’t think any of the first team win have fear and negativity breeding in themselves because a group of other players lost. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe the fact lots of inexperienced players lost will shake the confidence of 11 other players.

tonight was about not getting first team players injured, job done.

if we lose to Everton tonight will a complete irrelevance, unless 8 of tonight’s team play. Do you think that will happen?

Tbf the FA Cup run masked poor league form - not aided it!

I suppose with Kabasele and Holebas in defence we could have done better in that area but with a stronger team we blew a 3 goal lead so maybe our kids just aren't that good physically?

We all know how rubbish Gray is and it sounds like Pedro actually did some good touches but without end product.

So let me get this straight. Tonight you've seen the 2nd string lose to Tranmere. If our first teamers get injured, these are the players who fill in. You'd be happy with that in the Premier League? Do you agree with the concept that fixture congestion can lead to an increased chance of injury?

I'm sorry but tonight was absolutely correct to change the whole team. If you came on here and said it's embarrassing that we haven't got more depth then most would agree, but to risk the first team? No chance.

Just read the match report on the Official Site, and according to that report it sounds like we did not play that badly overall. Furthermore it appears that some of our youngsters actually put in a reasonable showing, so it would seem that NP might have got a good insight into who might be able to possibly make the step up to the 1st team if needed.

I'm still unhappy that we have been humiliated by losing to such a low ranking team, but if NP has gained some valuable insight into our fringe players tonight I suppose something good has come out of the game.

We don’t have a full second string as we have too many wastes of space who are constantly injured. Prodl. Cleverley. Janmaat. We rotated in who we could I suppose. At least Holebas and Gray are available for selection.

    Where was Success?

  29. Burnsy

Pearson said the line-up tonight reflects the situation we are in. The cup is a distraction they don’t need at the moment. I’m all for the ‘winning breeds confidence’ thought process - but I don’t think we deliberately lost. We just put a team out that wasn’t strong enough to win for various reasons.

Pearson will have a feel for the mood of the players at present so I’m happy to go with his judgment on this.

Leventhal says that Pearson has said Hughes and Welbeck will be fit to play in 10 days time - but Sarr is unlikely so seems the injury is nastier than we’d hoped for.

As for incomings - not definitive. ‘We may, we may not...’

Close to being loaned to a Championship club apparently. Given Gray played 120mins, you’d say it’s not as close for him going as some say or want.

  34. Davidmsawyer

That’s not really relevant. Would you have rather we risked getting (say) two players say injured tonight for the sake of getting through a couple of rounds in the fa cup.

and do you think that would help us stay up?

It’s by the by but a lot of the injured Newcastle players wouldn’t get in their first team anyway. And they are only doing well due to a lot of luck if you look at the xg of all of their games.

  35. Davidmsawyer

Possible, although I’m not sure the official site is a good neutral match report! Whatever way you spin they couldn’t beat a crap league 1 team.
