I wonder of the fact that Watford General and the Watford Stadium are both on the same road, had anything to do with it.
FMOB go out with the kids for a couple of hours and done deal upon my return. As I said in an earlier post I probably wouldn't have been too keen if asked but now he's here I think it's a great signing, hopefully get some decent game time from him and is quite a high profile signing for us, striker with 42 England caps looks good when attracting other talent.
That's a good point. Future players will look at Watford a bit differently now. They'll see Welbeck, Doucoure, Pereyra and Deulofeu at the club and think, hey, this team isn't half bad. It gives us more credibility as an attractive club to sign for.
https://www.theguardian.com/football If they had been called Ericksson & Hardacre, it would have been like a trip down Football Association memory lane.
Hopefully good signing, if this had been on the cards for a while why do the deal so late I’m the window ?
Sorry Nath but I think your being rather too negative about this signing. I know you to tend to lean to the negative side of miserable, but I’m not sure how this can be a bad deal? A goal scorer, on a contract that sounds like it is incentive based, who increases the profile of the club. All sounds like good news to me
"Goalscorer"? He's never scored more than 9 in a league season and that was 6 years ago, playing in a far, far better side than ours...
But none of our other goalscorers tend to get more than that anyway! He is a damn site better than what we already had. I think you just need to try and see the positive on occasion. I worry about your ulcers ;p
He's better than Okaka and probably equal to Gray and Deeney, but none of them are very good. That's my opinion. I do get a lot of ulcers so I appreciate your concern. Thx.
A 1 in 3 record at PL level is very good for most clubs to have, let alone Watford. The only negative to possibly draw on is his injury record. Anything else you come up with just comes across as negativity for negativity’s sake. I’m beginning to think you probably don’t even believe half the things you say.
He doesn't have a 1 in 3 record in the Premier League whatsoever, it's 1 in 5, whilst having played for far better teams than us. He's now older, has a huge injury record, and is part of a lesser team. I'm sorry, I'm not going to cream myself over Danny Welbeck.
How many England caps have Gray and Deeney got? How many appearances have they made for a top 6 club? Not putting Deeney or Gray down here, but Welbeck is a serious improvement.
If he can get and stay fit, he’s another level above TD and Gray. If he’s a sicknote then we lose a few mill in wages. It’s not my money who cares. Seriously what’s not to like?
Could be the best Premier League signing of the season, I reckon ...or it could go **** up if he can't stay fit. But he is just the sort of player I wanted. Mobile, hard-working and can take his chances. Welcome Danny.
Excellent that the cleaners have switched the socket off. So annoying when they leave it on. Slapdash.
I’m not sure anyone expects you to. But he has played under Wenger and Ferguson, has a decent scoring record. Has played in the CL, has won trophies. Has a good international record and is a good age. He also has a high-profile which is attractive on a number of fronts. If we can keep him fit (and that’s the big question) he is better by some distance than what we have. There is plenty to evidence that.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B03nZN2nBkG/?igshid=19pm1z7rjfb9v Bicep looks huge compared to triceps. Textbook muscle imbalance. Out for 4 months.
Very pleased with this signing, apparently on 25K a week topped up to 70k when he plays; no transfer fee, but not sure if there was a signing on fee or not, but lets say we gave him the £5m signing on fee which he was reported as wanting. So if he plays every single league match, which I hope he does that would be £2660000 + £350000 for the other 14 non playing weeks x 3 (years contract) = £9,030,000 + a possible £5m signing on fee, that would be £14,030,000 in total which includes all his wages as well. Even if he ends up not playing a single game due to injury and we have given him the £5m signing on fee, he would still only cost us £8,900,000, and that is the absolute worst case scenario, which I would think is very unlikely to happen seeing as he past a fitness test. If there is no signing on fee, it would be £3,900,000 in total that we would lose, but I imagine we would get most, if not all of that back from an insurance policy. Whatever way you look at it, where else would you get a striker of his quality for a maximum £14,030,000 including wages!!! THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT BIT OF BUSINESS, THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT THE FUTURE IS YELLOW
He’s saying the right kind of things - wonder how far off of being match fit he is given the time out and lack of pre-season. Crucially nice to hear he chose us over a few other options to. A player who sounds like he just wants to play football.
Wow great signing. Like the deal terms too. Welcome to Hertfordshire Danny. Best of luck to you. Please try to stay off the medical table.
“I’m feeling really good and really strong, and I’m looking forward to this challenge ahead.” So... He is or he isn't currently injured?
Good that he's buddies with Clevs & CC. Foster as well? Tough, manly, English spine of the team with some elusive, pacey CarlosKickaBalls types on the touchline. Textbook.
Sums it up nicely for me HB1, for the first time in a while I feel more optimistic about our chances this season!
