Hasn’t stayed fit long enough for me to assess if he’s any good or not. Can play out wide but he’s not really a winger is he and not quick ?
How old is he ?( I’m to lazy to search ) he’s another option would def add squad depth. A club like us might suit him better than the big 6 clubs. Not competing with the likes of Sanchez Giggs etc,, top coaches have seen his potential in the past also experience with top players and coaches I’d take him, what’s to lose he’s free ok wages probably big Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure if there ever was but I don't think there's any such thing as a 'free' transfer these days. Players (and their agents) expect the bulk of whatever the transfer fee would have been as a signing on fee instead. So instead of paying the club we'd have to pay the player.
I agree we should be wary of paying a large salary to a player who could be potentially (on past record) injured for half a season. But if we could do some sort of pay when you play deal, and bearing in mind our current options as back up to Deeney and Gray are Okaka and Succes, I think he would be a great addition. Still has pace and power as a centre forward going out wide. He has a 1 goal in five match record at this level, a dodgy knee, but is 28 and has quality.
£5m was the figure being bandied around the press a week as a signing-on fee. And £100k wages. Think it’s safe to say Gino is more shrewd than to pay either of those figures mind you.
Gino will know what the club can and can't afford. A much better player than what we've got, home grown and only 28. Bit of a risk injury wise but I wouldn't be unhappy if this deal was done
I would be shocked and stunned if this came to pass. Another one that I have always thought as being overrated but you don't play 90ish games each for Man Utd and Arsenal and get 42 England caps (16 goals too which surprised me) unless you are better than I give him credit for. Arsenal paid £18m for him 5 years ago. With no fee we may stump up a decent wage but I would be very surprised if someone bigger and richer didn't take him on. Very poor injury record (I hope players insurance is at a fixed rate through the FA/PFA otherwise his premiums must be astronomical) but certainly would be a good player if you can keep him on the pitch. Stay fit and score a decent number of goals for us in a season and he's back on the big boys radar, also potentially decent re-sale value. If you had asked me if I thought we should be after him I would have said no way, but now that we might actually be I'm thinking this could work out well all round as long we don't over pay and we can get a decent number of games out of him. Would still be surprised if this is anything other than Twitter bollacks though.
I'll give him a good clap for missing an open goal against us in the last minute of the FA Cup Quarter Final.
If we could somehow get him fit he'd be by far the best striker at the club. If it meant not having to watch Grey miss open goals I'm all for it
Capable of playing one up front, if fit. Big advantage to us and good option if the deal is low risk.
As soon as he was released I thought he'd be a good shout, but how can he possibly pass a medical? Got to be some sort of pay as you play contract.
Surely if it happens, it has to mean curtains for Okaka, Success, Penaranda? Will likely keep one of them but none of them would get anything like regular football.
I love Welbeck and think he'll be an excellent striker for us. Although he does need to improve his finishing and become able to play for more than three minutes a season, first.
If he’s on a pay and display , he’s better than what we got . So Okaka back to Udinese, Success And Penaranda on loan one would assume .
Anyone who has had a kickabout with someone using crutches knows how effective they can be for tap ins or professional fouls.
If we can keep him fit, his wages are extremely low and he scores lots of goals, this could be a good punt
A rare serious discussion but if it was a 1 year contract at a reasonable salary (not that I care that much, it's not my money) even better if it was pay as you play, or a bonus/contract extension if he starts (and completes) a certain percentage of games.
If he stays fit and scores 25-30 league goals this season, I think Wellbeck will prove a very shrewd addition to the squad
If this did happen (still not convinced), along with Sarr, I think it's a really successful window. Keeping hold of everyone, getting Dawson in and boosting our attacking options makes us a solid, well rounded team in my opinion. I'd like another CB (perhaps younger), but otherwise we're pretty well stocked everywhere.
