Evidently with a transfer ban they are now looking at taking other clubs Managers. https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...-Javi-Gracia-Watford-future-sack-next-manager
Express is absolute trash. And Chelsea would be a bit nuts to sack Sarri considering the season he's had in order to replace him with a manager who has never competed at the top of the table (or in the CL?).
Can’t see him going, you only get 1 year at Chelsea so would t be able to improve his CV much , they can’t transfer so won’t get any better next year and probably won’t compete for top 2 Only reason to go would be 1 year massive salary and a massive payoff when you get sacked
Frank Lampard of Frank Lampard's Derby County has been linked pretty heavily with the job too. Even though he's had a promising start to his managerial career, this is exactly the kind of dumb **** that Chelsea would do
Why is it dumb? Young English manager, who has started his career well and has history at the club. Pair that with the fact they have a transfer ban which almost certainly means they will need to play more youth at times - I’d say he’s far more in-tune with that than Sarri. Sarri was the start of the decline in interest in the Chelsea job IMO. The top managers don’t want it as they see how they get treated. And with the question marks over Abramovich at the club, it’s not a surprise. Zola - now that’s the kind of dumb **** they would do and shouldn’t.
Whoever manages Chelsea next season has a big job on their hands, probably too big for such a rookie. If I were Lampard I wouldn't take that job for a few years at least, and I have close family members from that part of the world who'd be very nervous if he took over, not least because they'd hate it if it is too big a job for him Hadn't really thought about the Chelsea job not being as attractive as it used to be, sadly that may put Gracia in the mix though if it's not Lampard
Funnily enough I think Lampard might be a great appointment for them. It will be less attractive to bigger names given the ownership and transfer ban, appointing him would buy them some goodwill and time with the fan base and he will be great working with the younger players. From his point of view, it would have come very early but how confident would he be that the offer will come later in his career ? Plus he gets in there before Terry, or maybe with Terry as his #2 ?
Well that would certainly add some extra spice to the play-off final! Seriously though, I think many fans would see through it, and he'll definitely be linked with the job any time it's available in future so I don't think there's any hurry at all for him
But I don’t know how much I buy all this ‘he’s a rookie’ talk these days. He is - but so was Zidane. So was Guardiola. He’s gone away, admittedly only for a year, and done well. He will know people at the club as well. He’d do well in their current circumstances - as long as he was given more than a year and a chance to build. Chelsea fans I think May need to accept next year and maybe even the one after will be about keeping their powder dry and building something again, not winning the PL.
Well if he fails in his next 2 jobs he won't be linked in the future ! I happen to think he's a pretty smart and honest guy and will become a great success as a coach. Lot's of empathy, will understand how to get the best from indvividuals. I'm less convinced that Terry will be a successful coach. A bit like, Tony Adams, a great leader on the pitch but thick as ****, not clever enough to adapt to management. We shall see.....
Exactly. What's the Derby manager from 1903 up to these days? At least he was first to the record. Javi couldn't even manage that.
In fairness I'm not sure Zidane and pep are the best comparisons to make in regards to rookie coaches. Given the players, money, infrastructure and competition that Barcelona and real Madrid have its hard for them to really fail as such. Plus they were groomed for the job for a number of years via managing the respective reserve sides. It's a very different scenario at Chelsea and I'm not sure that 'knowing the club' will be of much help to a rookie. And let's be honest lampard hasn't set the world alight at derby - taking one of the traditionally better championship teams who perennially finish in and around the playoffs to the playoffs.
Sorry, but that’s easily pulled apart. Chelsea have competed at the top table for a number of years. Their infrastructure is sound, the finances have been beyond good, they’ve been successful. Plenty of domestic cups, one EL, one CL and a runners up to boot. Zidane and Guardiola were moulded for those jobs through doing the reserve sides for a number of years you say? Zidane did 2 years and Guardiola 1 year. Derby do perennially get to the playoffs, you’re right. But they had the divisions top scorer last season and sold him - to be replaced by Martyn Waghorn and some guy from P’boro. He’s got decent young lads in on loan, as well as promoting a few kids from within. Keeping them at the same level has been a better and harder job than it appears. The comparison between him and the people I mentioned is quite valid IMO.
We will just have to agree to disagree. I just don't think that given the current situation at Chelsea, that Zidane and pep are suitable comparisons to validate an inexperienced manager. Chelsea isnt comparable to the two Spanish giants.
Absolutely nothing to say he’s interested or any quotes from our side at all - but there’s quite a few articles in the Spanish press today saying Sevilla’s sporting director Monchi has identified Gracia as the No.1 target for them to the club’s board. Gracia’s loyalty I don’t think can be questioned and I strongly believe he’d stay. But it’s a hell of a job to turn down and I doubt it’s completely cut-and-dried if the Spanish press are accurate about the claims. There’s an argument to say he may think he’s taken us as far as he can without investment. Any other clubs DNA would mean the manager would be able to push the club for investment - you suspect Gino would say goodbye if that happened here. And move on to the next scouted manager. Hope it’s not true. But not confident enough to say it’s not.
Manage Watford or Sevilla? Not really a difficult choice for him to make. If it’s true, he will be gone and you can’t blame him. Sevilla is great step up for him and I would wish him all the best. He has done a marvelous job here and turned relegation favourites into a Cup final team whose position in the Prem was never questioned. Didn’t flirt with relegation once. He stopped the February rot and the rot only came in with about 4 games left in the league. He brought unity into the team and the players fight for each other. We have played brilliant football all season and could have easily finished in the top 6 had we taken our easy chances. Obviously I would love for him to stay, but I just don’t see any manager with ambition turning down Sevilla for us. The only way he does is if there is some sort of guarantee from Gino about investment of players to take Watford to the next level. In other words, he’s gone.
Linked with Espanyol and Betis quite heavily too, although only Espanyol because they are supposedly losing their coach to Betis. But he’s on all 3 shortlists. I don’t think he will leave. He doesn’t seem the type given his statements. But he’s had a lot of coaching jobs in a relatively short career - it’s not beyond him to move. And he said just last week he will definitely return to Spain. All 3 clubs bigger than us as well and considered amongst the larger teams in Spain.
This is probably worth posting. It was put on 3 days ago. https://twitter.com/AdamLeventhal/status/1132595188289949696
Quite right to reference. But also Marca and AS both are carrying articles saying different. I’m sure they have equal, if not stronger, sources in Spanish football than Leventhal.
There are a lot of reasons why those roles would be attractive, esp for someone who wants to head back to Spain ultimately. Bigger clubs but kissing goodbye to the prem ? Sad fact is that when we do well we run the risk of losing the better players and the manager (would be the first to leave against the clubs' will since Malky ?). He will know that if we start badly next season he will be sacked so it may be better to leave with 11th and a cup final under his belt. We should be due reasonable compensation of he did leave give the c783 year contract he signed last Autumn ?
I thought Marca and AS are basically the Spanish equivalents of the Sun and Mirror - i.e. full of crap. As for Sevilla being "a great step up" for him, according to Marko, I doubt that anymore. Sure they're in the Europa League, but other than that I reckon he'd have a slightly bigger salary and budget here. He doesn't need to leave now. He's got a long contract. And there'll no doubt still be good jobs in La Liga available to him again once it's finished.
Sevilla or Watford. Now that is an almost impossible choice. There is no more than a gnats pube between the two towns. Vs It's certainly a tough one.
Indeed, Leventhal's stuff is mostly based on reality, you never know what crap can appear in the Spanish press, I'm sure I saw Ramos of all people linked with a move to Liverpool in one of those papers. Would have thought that we'd have a pretty hefty release clause for Javi, and I wouldn't imagine that even someone as illustrious as Sevilla would fancy paying through the nose for a manager when they could surely get one from Spain for a lot cheaper, especially when they're not in the Champions League next season
