They would have waited for the referees report. If that gave them some room to appeal then they would. Taken from the front angle you can see it wasn't an elbow. Also you can see he brushed him rather than hit him. There is a chance of the red being recinded.

Can't believe this. What next, decisions reversed DURING A GAME? Sad!

Does Deeney get a 4 match ban if the decision is upheld?

That's good. Nothing to lose by appealing then

Unless they decide that it is frivolous and he plays for a non six team.

Could be. It's extremely rare, but it is an option open to the FA.

Was it a foul? Yes. Was it intentional? Yes. Was it dangerous or reckless? No. Was it deserving of a yellow card? Yes.

But does that really matter? Not really. Are we a club that can be dumped on? Yes, so I'm expecting a 3 match ban to be upheld and maybe even increased to 4, because it's Troy Deeney.

I thought, if you were to appeal a red card, it had to be red card or nothing? It was not a red but hard to argue it didn't warrant a yellow. Not sure if this is still the rule but if so, not sure I can see a red overturned. Plus, even though there is a height difference, they will simply see he's put his arm up (down?) to his face and that'll be all.

But the theory ‘because it’s Deeney’ doesn’t fly. They could have reprimanded him for his middle-finger celebration last season. Or maybe for bringing the game into disrepute over his claim we systematically foul Zaha. They went unpunished. I think it was a soft red. But no way does this get overturned.

    Probably get overturned now though....

If the ref report says he was given a red for elbowing him in the face and off for violent conduct then he has good grounds to appeal as he definitly did not elbow him or even attempt to elbow him.

Part of me wants it rescinded, part of me wants it reduced to one match (I know that's impossible), but part of me wants him to be punished because on numerous occasions his stupidity has dropped his team mates in the sh!t and he never seems to learn.

The last game of the season against Leeds where it was in our hands for promotion, he lost his head and got sent off. With 11 we'd have won that game.

The Joe Allen gouging, got him a 3 match ban.

Red card against Huddersfield for a reckless sliding tackle.

The 'cojones' jibe was always going to bite him on the backside, and let's be honest he had a run in with Torreira at the Emirates that he could have been sent off, so he was looking leave something on him on Monday as some sort of retribution.

He's the club captain, so he has to learn to control himself on and off the pitch and not leave the team in the mire.

Taking my 5 yo to his first match v Wolves at home - the only player he knows is Deeney.

I think this is adequate grounds to overturn the red so he's not suspended for this game. Otherwise I will have to pass Gray off as an alternative Watford legend/hero/hothead*

You have proved, to Nobel winning level, that he won’t.

    That’s not what it’s about.

There’s precedent here. I was playing Champ Man 01/02 earlier and Cherno Samba (aggression 9 no less) was sent off in consecutive games. In the latter stages of a game against Man City, Rushden goal-getter Samba punched veteran defender Steve Howey, on-loan from Italian giants Parma, receiving and straight red and a 3 game ban. The next match, he lashed out at Mark Bosnich, again receiving a straight red and his ban extended to both. Of course, I appealed both decisions and saw both bans overturned.

If two violent assaults can be overturned on a vintage computer game, I see no reason why the same can’t happen in real life for a far softer crime.

    Just my two-cents worth.

You need to write to Graham Kelly immediately.

    Samba’s career was 10 years, 5 countries, 52 games, 15 goals.

    Sad & desperate, really.

So very Troy to have to try and back up his silly words with silly actions. It's the one thing that makes you understand why he never got the England call up at times his play has deserved.

Agreed. He should be a squeaky clean guy like the rest of those England squad members.

Had he just been filmed naked with prostitutes like Dele Alli, he'd have 100 caps.

In my seasons with him it was more like 15 games 52 goals!

  23. Whatever you feel about TD, the fact that if it is not rescinded, Deeney's innocuous forearm brush warrants the same penalty as Gomes' cynical premeditated stamp on Mitrovic, is plainly absurd.

We successfully argued for Pereyra to have the 3 match ban for violent conduct reduced to 1 in the Wally season. I wonder if we'll be doing the same here? There's definitely a spectrum of offending and Deeney's was pretty low down, bearing in mind he clearly had his eyes on the ball and did not endanger Torriera in any way.

No wonder he was "aggression 9" when he did get on the pitch ! Or the cause of the lack of games....

Well with his real stats if ever there was a true Pozzo punt type of player it would've been him.

Only if appeal had no realistic basis or was frivolous

True. All we had to do was show clips of Perreyra bottling out of every 50/50 challenge.

Can understand the criticism of Deeney & the red cards etc, but on the other side of the equation you must take into consideration that same ego is what makes him Deeney. Take that away you are left with an average player.

If you want Deeney, you must factor in/write off a few suspensions over the course of a season.

Troy had one of his moments and deserved the red just for the intent. I think some people need to take off their gold tinted glasses.

    Intent to do what?

    Foul? Yup.
Foul in a way which puts his opponent on his arse? Yup, expect so.
Pick up a yellow card? Maybe.
    Injure? Nope.
    Elbow to face? Nope.

It's reckless rather than violent or dangerous.

He went to elbow him in the face, baffled as to why you are arguing against the evidence which is clear.

    Which evidence?

Deeney's action doesn't even look like an attempted elbow to me. The movement of his arm and where he first makes contact with Torreira (shoulder from the side) doesn't fit and his eyes are on the ball ahead the whole time.

If Torreira doesn't snap his head back theatrically and just goes down normally I doubt we'd have even seen a yellow card.
