We're similar clubs, not touching the football elite, never closer than now to getting in europe bar the one season. Fortunate to have a few good seasons whilst the big clubs flounder in the championship. Both forming a foundation to stay in the top flight. Both selling clubs but capable of holding onto star players for a bit. Whomever wins this game has losing finalist written all over them. If they sold Zaha I'd almost like them - in that i dont really like any club not watford.

Some of their fans are moronic. But of course none of ours are. If say a Burnley player said they took turns fouling Pererya, we'd be civil and accept thats its just a turn of phrase and all teams do it.

During tonight's Eastenders. Dot will announce what games the BBC are showing and Dion Dublin will do the BT games in the Vic.

Isn’t the argument that Palace are a London Club and Waford aren’t a bit of an oxymoron when it come to arguing who has the biggest catchment area?

London is saturated with big clubs, why would a kid support palace, three points off relegation with an absolute hovel of a ground and one good player, when they could support Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham?

Whereas one quick glance at the map (I’d seriously recommend you do this as you’ve got some serious delusion about your ‘catchment area) and you can see there are no big clubs between Watford and the midlands.

I’d say we have a far far bigger catchment area and far more potential to fill a hole for fans wanting premier league football than palace ever will. London has exceptional transport links so there is literally no reason for anybody in your so called ‘catchment area’ to bother supporting palace when there are much better options not much farther afield. I’d even rather support Fulham personally.

It's true that CP do have a large catchment area. It's a pretty ugly area, South London, but there are a lot of people who can't afford to live north of the river who end up there and there are few "local" London teams to pick from. However that has always been the case and yet here we are again after c100 years with little Palace struggling to stay in the division and hold onto their better players, sorry player. It is a bit of a mystery why they still haven't risen to become an established premier league club given their geographic potential. It can't be "bad luck" every season surely can it ? As to the game, I think it's genuinely a 50/50 call.

I suppose the people of South London might feel safer going to Palace rather than Millwall and see a higher quality/level of football than they would at Charlton.

Going on catchment area most of the big London teams are north of the river..... Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, West Ham and then the likes of QPR and Fulham

South London what have you got Millwall, Charlton

This is an arguement we cannot win and one wonders why bother

I dont want to say anything bad about crystal palace, perspex caravan, titanium castle, graphene bungalow or whatever they're called. Im painfully aware that if my dad had had unprotected sex with a south london chav who thinks jd sports is zara and sports direct is mango, I too could have been a palace fan and it could be me jumping up and down in black making strange woo woo and der der noises like a 5 year old that's stumbled accross his parents drinks cabinet, having increasingly elaborate fantasies about wilfred zaha - the primark john barnes.

Similar clubs on some ways but miles apart in others. They have done nothing to develop their ground or training facilities and have a poor scouting network when it comes to recruiting players or new managers. Warnock, Pulis, Alardyce, Hodgson .... mmmmm

The trouble is loads of people in our catchment area support Arsenal; a ‘big’ club and very easy to get to from leafy Hertfordshire. I’ve always thought the club doesn’t make enough of a marketing effort to combat this and I think they will need to if we ever develop a 30k capacity stadium. Otherwise it would take a long, long period of Watford being successful and Arsenal being mediocre to turn these people’s heads.

Just thought I’d mention that getting sucked into a debate about catchment areas and which club is better by a palace troll*, who has since disappeared, is even more boring than discussing refereeing decisions.

Come on people we’re better than this!

    *it is probably Moog.

My unbiased opinion is that Palace are historically just a bigger club than Watford and have more fans anyway. The truth is for both our clubs, you don't support them unless you're born into them. This is counteracted by being in the Premier League however, as it gives the opportunity for Palace to widen their fan base across South London and convert some fans who maybe support United or Arsenal etc... who are never actually going to watch any football. You are also failing to acknowledge that not every young fan is a glory hunter and is unwilling to give their local team a chance. there are 2.9 million people living in south London and only 1.1 million living in Hertfordrshire altogether. The argument that any of your 'catchment' area stretches into North London is invalid in my opinion with the likes of spurs, Arsenal and potentially even West Ham dominating those areas. I suppose the reason Palace fans go on about the clubs potential to expand in size and fan base is purely based on the fact that as we have been in the top flight for 6 consecutive seasons and Charlton/Millwall are not very attractive prospects we have to ability to attract a lot of fans. It's just true. Every game is a sell out, season ticket waiting lists are huge every year. I also don't think anyone who lives in rural Hertfordshire or even the Midlands would bother trecking all the way down to watch Watford when they could go a little bit further and get to Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea.

The river is a red herring, pun not intended, people use the underground to get around so north or south of the river is meaningless

    I knew it.

    You are 8 years old.

    You’ve so far spouted:

‘Our players are more expensive than yours’

‘Our catchment area is bigger than yours’

Now we have ‘Our club is bigger than yours.’

I’m just waiting for my dads bigger than yours.

Some valid points there but presumably you also accept that it is as easy or easier for the 2.9m in south London to get to the north London clubs to watch the top teams as it is for those in Hertfordshire. Presumably "Londoners" feel that any London team counts as "their local team" whereas few in the general Watford area would feel comfortable travelling to watch MK Dons play for example ? We will never be an Aresenal/Spurs or Chelsea but nor will CP be, if the last 100 years of history is anything to go by.
