What the hell happened at half time? Second half we were pressing with one player at a time, allowing Newcastle to just pass around us and find time and space. Our decision making went to pot, picking the wrong ball or running at defenders when we're boxed in. We played them back into the game and then didn't know what to do once they'd scored. At the end we barely even pushed, yet somehow still should've equalised.

Doucoure tried to drive the midfield forward. Provided two excellent crosses late on. First one no one gambled at all. Second Okaka utterly useless. It was Capoue who either was told to sit back or just wilted perhaps worried about a second yellow. Easily his worst performance this season. Doucoure, Pereyra and to an extent Success and Foster all did well.

The ease with which Deulofeu and Success were getting into their box in the first half...

I'm genuienly not taking the piss when I say this but the answer is pretty simple - two teams take part in a match. In the first half we cut them to ribbons. In the second half they shut off our supply lines by pressing higher and we didn't react. I don't think it's a matter of energy or intensity dropping. We just had no plan B and are a much weaker side when left to rely on Cathcart, Mariappa and Foster for every out ball.

Shouldn't need a plan B. The game should have been out of sight at half time. The only way to rectify this is in the transfer market. I noticed Richarlison got a brace today, cover paper over the Silva cracks again.

Wouldn't mind £10...my biggest win was £2.60...I'm blaming Holebas for that.

    Games like this will happen.

If we have to lose the odd one, I'd much rather it was because we didn't score a single one of the 40 opportunities that came our way.

Don't like Holebas ego in the team. Sick of his dissent in almost every game. He can go in Jan as far as I'm concerned, while he's still got some potential value.

You can see why Del boy was released from Barca. Good player but consistency lets him down.

Success getting his dose of hype, but I don't think he is the future striker we could rely on, makes far too many simple mistakes & erratic passing & shooting. Championship type player.

Only good from today is Okaka has lost weight.

UEA is right. Gracia could have placed Success and Gray out wide to chase into the spaces. Pereyra more central to provide more influence and drop Hughes deeper into midfield to provide a spare outlet. He was too slow to react especially when they started to pick up after the crossbar was hit and the enforced changes made them more balanced. No wonder ball playing centrebacks are a wonderful commodity. We do not have any. If only we had a youngster like Juan Foyth. Perhaps Wilmot will emerge as one.

What is it about this club? We give life support to clubs on death’s door. Missed chance after chance in the first half and were ragged in the 2nd half, particularly after they scored. Okaka is simply not premier league standard. Full stop. My mother in law would have scored his missed chance near the end. Inexplicable that a striker would not score in such a position. Just one of those very frustrating days. Fantastic opportunity to move up the table badly missed. Success was far less effective in the 2nd half and should have been taken off much earlier. Holebas was not sharp from corners and consistently hit the first defender with his placed kicks.

To introduce one positive, we created so many chances. Improve our finishing and we will win many more games.

Still seething about today’s game though.

I heard it on five live sports extra but I can’t say it was easy to listen to. How many chances are we going to have and not score?

We should of been out of sight at half time. Credit where it’s due their goal was well worked but it should of been a mere consolation. We were dominant throughout but if you can’t take chances you deserve nothing from a game.

They were the better side after they scored and it could if been a heavier loss too. That co commentator on the radio litterilly praising Newcastle everything they did was a bit annoying and I wanted to slap him.

I’m not going to praise the opposition for winning their first game because of course they beat us. We always do it. Without fail, we go to a struggling team who can’t buy a goal and give them three points. It was Huddersfield last season and Newcastle this season.

They were going to win eventually but it should not of been this game. We cannot go into every game relying on Delafoo or Bobby P to score world class goals to win games. I know our strikers are poor, not including.Success who still needs games to get back to his best.

I would of brought on Deeney had he not been out, he usually scores against Newcastle and it was sowhat lacking today.

I can’t say there was no effort because the want of trying was there. Gracia needs and I mean really needs to get a striker in January. I’m so annoyed we lost this. Not because it’s Newcastle but because it’s so frustrating to dominate a game and not take a single goal.

As soon as they scored my GF said the game is over and I knew it too.

Not looking forward to Southampton as much now. Can we bounce back? Probably. But it’s definitely one for the lads to look at again on Monday and understand what went wrong today. Commitment was there for sure.

I’m not watching MOTD to listen to Shearer salavating over them winning either. I can’t rate or say who played well because I only have the radio as evidence.

I applaud the brave fans who travelled and I hope they all have a safe journey back. I know exactly how they feel. Same as me. Bitterly disappointed.

Yes we are Watford and yes today was a typical Watford sort of afternoon and result, but what should we expect? We are a team still trying to punch above our weight in a division where just about everybody can beat everybody else outside of the top 3.

Yes certain players had bad games today but we are still at a level where inconstancy is sadly the norm, coz if it wasn’t they’d be playing for the likes of Man City or Liverpool or Barca or Juve. Does Holebas’s good start to the season now count for nothing after a below par showing today? Or Gray’s goals that helped us win matches? Has Gracia now gone back to being an idiot after masterminding our best ever start to a PL season up until today? Can Okaka be judged on just his first ten minutes of the season today, bad miss though it was today?

We all knew we should have signed a quality striker this summer and not getting Alcacer will continue to haunt us I’m sure. We all know this remains a tough tough league and if you’re slightly off your game, you get punished. This season we’ve often taken two steps forward then one back. Just when you think we really are the business after a few consecutive wins, along comes a shocker. It’s **** but it’s the level we are at. You either accept it and hope we learn from it, or you forget the good that’s gone before and take the ‘everything is suddenly c-rap again’ approach. And it was today, but it isn’t for the whole season and it need not be again. And it won’t be. Because we are still edging forwards, but it can’t always be at the beeathneck speed some hope for.

And this post from somebody who could easily have used today to rejoin the ‘Gracia isn’t quite as good as he was made out to be’ club.

Have a good evening, and safe journey home.

Very similar to Fulham. Should have been out of sight first half but wasteful finishing cost us.

It happens. Need to rectify this against Southampton and reclaim that top 7 spot.

Before the match I said if we scored around 20-30 minutes they'd crumble but if it got to 60 minutes at 0-0 they'd probably nick it.

Listened on 5 live sports extra as I was moving house but it sounded like we were superb until the shot.

We aren't going down but hopefully it's a reminder to the players they have to stay focused and can't afford to waste easy chances

Flying in to watch the Southampton game next Saturday. Newcastle are awful and we sounded poor against them. Southampton will be up to beat their fellow strugglers next week.
    Tactics for Southampton:
Play it wide use your pace and movement against a slow, sloppy marking Watford defence.
Put the ball in the mixer as many times as possible as we are crap the air .
Sit back and wait for us to lose heart as we miss chance after chance.

What a disappointing afternoon listening to that shower of 5hit play. It was Newcastle and they have been clueless so far this season..

Very similar to the game against Fulham. The much better team, should have been out of sight by half time, only to go and drop points.

Extremely frustrating, I hate these types of results because it really was an easy game for us to be winning.

Again no blame can be on Javi. Deulofeu missing a hat trick of chances on the 1st half is his own doing. As well as all our other goal shy players today.

Newcastle know they have got away with one there but that’s football. It happens to every team, just sucks when it us.

my heart sank when i saw holebas starting, would of had him on the bench at best as still do not rate him even though he had a plucky start of season.
he is horrendous at corners and free kicks imo, just hope today does not lead to too much tinkering or changes against Southampton as think we are fairy solid overall

Success was awful in the 2nd half and should have been changed a lot earlier

Gracia's weakness is defiantly his use and timing of substitutions

A couple of people have said no blame to be pointed at Gracia, I disagree. I thought his substitutions/tactics when we went a goal behind were atrocious. Putting three up top doesn’t increase the chances of scoring, infact it makes it easier for the opposition to defend. Our overall second half performance was shocking, we became completely complacent. What the heck was said at half time?
