I had to listen to radio commentary on the way back to Watford, (it hurt not being there), and in the first half the ref awarded us a fee kick and it sounded like we'd scored. Was he that biased?

Wrong. We're first! But mention of Capoue's non red card in the intro

Highlights showed how ineffective spurs were in 1st half.

Plus loved the fact we’ve only had 8 shots on target against us so far!

Yes, I agree that we defended superbly in the first half, but I maintain that our build-up play lacked confidence.

I loved that stat too. And here's another - in our entire history, Watford have never lost a game while wearing yellow and black stripes!

  6. Meh!

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

Wow. Some of the fans on their message board are really bitter about Watford aren't they!

Maybe it's because a lot of the are actually from Watford but we're too gutless to support their local team so chose some 80's has been team instead, and are now regretting it knowing their Watford colleagues will be taking the pee out of them for the rest of the year!

To be fair the MOTD2 analysis was like night and day compared to Sky. The BBC actually gave us the credit we deserved whereas Souness basically grudgingly called us Burnley. The guy is so thick it’s incredible. He said we were so good at set pieces and that there was no other team in the league that were as good, and then he paused and said other than maybe Cardiff.

This is the same Cardiff who had failed to score until today, but presumably because he’d sat and watched them a couple of hours earlier it was the only team he could think of to compare us to.

Can't wait to play Spurs again. I hope we draw them in the FA cup so we can do the quadruple over them and really ram down their throats what a pi$$poor side they are.
Wish we could bully them every week TBH.

This is too good.....I have to come back and post.

I know this will not please everyone, but then, who cares, this could be a very special season.

I've always believed in Gracia and I'm really pleased he's doing so well at the club, when he had so many doubters and he is proving them all wrong.

He did this same thing at Malaga. He created something really special there. Would he do this a one of the very top clubs, maybe not, as the ego of the top stars would not buy into it.

Will this run continue? Hell yes....because Gracia has made it happen. He's changed attitudes. He's a silent assassin. He comes across as meek and humble, but he's extremely intelligent. He got to Deeney, got into his head and made him love football again. Look at Holebas, totally transformed from last season. So many other players have followed suit. We have leaders coming out of the woodwork, as a whole, players are playing their A game. Is it a fluke, no, it's the Javi Gracia revolution.

We are doing this WITHOUT the likes of Cleverley, Deulofeu and Chalobah. We still need some quality up front but we have heart, strength and desire in bucket loads. This will continue, the players believe. This is self-perpetuating and will carry us through the season.

Can we cope with injuries, maybe a couple of key injuries could hurt us, but as we saw in mid-week, we have an entire squad jumping at the bit.

Great to see EJ today and strangely Ranieri has been present in our last two games, although I know he's a friend of the Pozzo family.

Within football circles, Watford are rated, but for some reason that does not cross over to the world of media or pundits.

Finally, I'd like to thank all the supportive PM's. You guys know who you are.

There is a reason why they haven't won anything of note for 10 years .

They probably thought it would be easy after beating Man U..

What a fantastic afternoon. Brilliant performances by all of the players.

I loved the way the unused substitutes celebrated at the end with the other players - it shows a real team spirit.

I came home and watched the game (and the jaw-jaw) on Sky. Souness is a real fan of Deeney and gives Watford a lot of respect.

Its very difficult to describe what kind of player Deeney is...because he isnt really your classic No 9.

This season he has been a hybrid of a box to box midfielder aka a No 4 , a No 10 and an old fashioned English No 9....
.... which makes him a No (4+10+9)/3 which reduces down to a No 7.66667.

Totally disagree. For every one claiming they were bullied by long ball Watford another five were giving us credit. Think they are the most magnaminous sets of fans on a forum as I've seen in a long time.

Unbelievable to think that we’ve won the opening 4 games, considering the seemingly endless wave of negativity over the summer. Clearly things in the Watford camp were much more positive than many of the people on here!

What a turnaround from last season, which felt like such a missed opportunity after the early excitement under Silva eventually led to discontent and disappointment that Gino had seemingly turned to the “boring” Javi Gracia.

The manager has put his stamp on the team now, getting more out of many players who have been here for a few years than any coach with greater reputation had previously ever come close to managing. We look solid, supremely organized and hungry to compete. Watching us see out games under pressure is so refreshing compared to the capitulation that we’ve become accustomed to, even if we sometimes have to turn to some of the darker arts to maintain the advantage.

Huge credit to the likes of Deeney, Holebas, Janmaat and even Capoue for coming out and proving many wrong. Without doubt, we’ll go on some barren runs this season, where points are hard to come by, but my word, even at this early stage, this feels like a huge opportunity for us to make a step forward and distinguish ourselves from the frequent flitters with relegation.

Absolutely agree with you PhillipineOrn. Compared to say, the Palace or Gooner forum's where the typical phrase "We should be beating those tinpot yellow *****" is often thrown around, the Spurs forum has actually been quite pleasant towards us.

We have more strength in depth than them. They had 17 fit senior players at the start of the season, we made 11 changes for the Reading game and still managed to put out a decent side. I doubt Europe would massively **** us up in the League unless we go on a mad one like Fulham or Boro a few years back. Gotta have something to aim for I guess

I think it's meant to be?

Main report is a lot more evenly reported:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45312125

Anyway, much prefer to go under the radar for as long as possible. Keeps the pressure off and ensures other teams rock up to the match not taking us seriously.

Agreed. I suspect the media line will be now that Watford have stopped the “revolving door manager merry go round” they are ok, they’ll somehow turn it into how they were always right and Watford have finally realised the importance of stability. Although not great on football analysis the media are quite skilled in doublethink. Who cares what the media think anyway I like being unfashionable.

Would echo everyone’s positive comments. Watched the game in Lyme Regis and the atmosphere sounded incredible on the telly. I’m also personally extra ecstatic in that after the World Cup and my sons real football awakening I was concerned he might sway towards evil Tottenham due to the England team make up and his friends influence. Now, a bit like the Jesuits, I believe his soul will be Watford’s for life.
