I'd be fairly miffed if we sold him to Everton, whatever the price

35 million plus add ons maybe?

That seems to be the general consensus but if you know the more accurate details of the deal than fair enough.

I am sure we don't want to lose Doucouré at this stage - and he wants to join a big club.

Just need to spellcheck the Richie contract to check they haven't quietly slipped the odd "...and Doucoure" into the text

    Not Everton then.

Heard whispers that Spurs are sniffing around hoping to be set to join the race reportedly.

Spurs are the least likeliest to give us a decent fee on Doucoure.

The £35mil plus £5mil add ons came from an evertonian working for the Liverpool Echo. Some other minor outlets picked up on this but the majority of media outlets, including the outlets in Brazil are all on the same page and saying £50mil.

So I just think it’s funny that the only ones claiming it is £35mil plus £5mil add ons are Everton fans and the Liverpool Echo. Everyone else who are unbiased are all saying £50mil.

The old saying of if you hear the same thing from three different sources then it’s probably true is what I’m going off of. The only one with a different story is the Liverpool Echo, Evertons PR paper.

Even Richarlison’s agent has supposedly confirmed to media outlets in Brazil that the deal is a £45mil fee plus add ons.

It’s literally the sensitive little flowers, aka, Everton fans, that are getting their knickers in a twist because everyone worldwide is mocking them.

Gino has had his way with Everton and they are nothing but our little puppet in this deal.

If they come in for Doucoure they will have to pay an inflated price again.

We know that Doucoure was our best player, so £50mil on Richarlison sets us up nicely to command an outrageous fee for Doucoure. If Everton come calling, I expect them to be quoted a minimum of £65mil for him.

I would be very disappointed if Doucs left now.

Apart from anything else, Richie & Doucs are our only two good players who don't spend half the season on a trolley in some corridor in Colney.

Hope it's not that - because they'd pay it. I'd prefer a straight 'not for sale'.

Duxbury said recently that we don't need to sell anybody:
    https://www.watfordfc.com/club/events/your-place-amersham-recap

"...any player will only be sold on our terms and it will be because the price means technically we believe we can improve the squad."

By making such an insane profit on Richarlison, I can't see why they'd need to make even more money by selling Doucs. Especially with 3 weeks of the window left, and every selling club knowing we'd have over £100m in the bank.

They spent £30m on Moussa Sissoko. Even Levy is prone to the odd error in financial judgment.

All the randoms they bought with the Bale money.

If we sell Doucoure to Everton I will be absolutely fuming. We will also suddenly be looking a far, far weaker side and in need of serious investment. We already have issues at centre back and up front and with Cleverley out injured, letting Doucoure go now would be insanity. Let's not turn our one strong area into a complete mess as well, eh?

Rich going for ~50m sets the bar for Doucoure. The Douc is not only better and thus should command a higher fee, but we'll also be 50m flusher from Rich so with even less need to sell.

If he goes I expect to see a truly stupid transfer fee involved, assuming he's even interested.

If Doucs left, only Chalobah would be able to play the Chalobah role.

Would be a massive mistake selling Docoure, and would fear the worst if we do. I’m not bothered about Richarlison going.

Whilst I wouldn’t be happy to see him go, if he goes to a Spurs or similar, he’s earned the move and I wouldn’t begrudge him it. I would be very sad to see him join Everton as I think he’s far better than them and he also doesn’t have the allegiance to Silva that Richarlison obviously does.

If Doucoure went for £50m to Spurs for instance and we replaced him with RLC or Dendoncker, I wouldn’t be too upset.

I turned on the u19 match last night just as they were doing the anthems.

Jokingly, I said to my son 'That guy looks just like Chalobah'.

And indeed it turned out to be Chalobah Minor.

Chelsea seem to get a lot of siblings playing for them. I heard that they also have Jody Morris' younger brother on the books.

I would. However, i accept it may happen. there is no guarantee that we will be able to replace with a quality signing. I really hope if we do sell him we have contracts pre-agreed with his quality replacement. We cant make do with what we've got.

I know. By the same token, as a purely a fan, there are a number of players I have been sad to see leave over the years. But I accept that they have earned their move.

But we have to look at it logically from Gino and the club’s perspective. Whether he has a replacement lined up or not, if anyone bids £40m-50m for Doucoure, it will be very hard to turn down if he is refusing to sign a new contract. Because those amounts will half in a years time. We may not need the money but we still can’t afford to be profligate in the face of those types of numbers.

I don’t disagree. But whilst he would be a big loss and that would weaken us, I dont think he alone would be the sole difference between staying up or going down. If he wanted to go and the money was £40/£50m and we could reinvest 50% of that in RLC for instance, we’d still have RLC, Cleverley, Capoue, Chalobah, Hughes and potentially Rodwell who can all play CM.

I’m not suggesting we sell him. Just playing devils advocate on the situation where we may be okay if we did.

He wouldn’t be his direct replacement though.

Either way, it’s a moot point as there’s no real stories of him leaving anyway and I’m leaning more towards him signing a new deal.

Simples, get Capoue to change his second name by deed poll. Then sell "Etienne Doucoure" for £45 m and send him up to Finch Farm in last years number 16 yellow shirt. Silva will recognise the face but wont notice the switch until 11 August and the jobs a good'un.

I think he will sign a new contract with us and go next summer - however, an offer of £50m would certainly see him sold, no question

If he stays, I really don't think we have bags of strengthening to do.
Of course a striker is the main priority, and another centre back would be nice, but I am quite hopeful that Kabasele continues to improve, and having Cathcart and Kaboul back in for a season will be like new signings at the back. Wilmot may mature faster than we think.

We have strong GKs, strong full backs with cover now, strong DMs with Cleverly and Capoue covering Chalobah and Doucoure, very strong AMs/Wingers - Pereyra, Hughes, Deulofeu, Success, Peneranda, Sema - Gray will be given a second chance and a new lease of life.

I'd be surprised if more than 1 or 2 more heads join.
