So you're suggesting Marco Silva can be sly in interviews?! NEVER!!!

I would actually probably suggest the question won't be asked at all and the media will be embargoed from mentioning anything to do with it. It serve's Everton no purpose to highlight the negative aspect of his appointment on the day of his unveiling.

Agree with this entirely. I guess nobody can physically enforce any such embargo but whoever asks won't get an answer or anywhere near an Everton press conference again.

However had the Watford Observer sent someone then they could have done it and not cared about whether to be invited again.

I'd have no problem selling Richie to Everton if we decide to cash in and their bid is the highest. After we agree compensation we just need to get on and do what's best for the club. Accepting a lower offer from elsewhere makes no sense. Holding an ongoing vendetta doesn't help us.

Yeah, but this is the Watford Observer. An exclusive for them is reporting a street light out in the High St.

Jeez you don't half go on about your director of football.
You know other clubs (even tinpot ones like ours) have been doing this for years and it isn't the second coming of Jebus.

You're spot on - well, as far as I'm concerned anyway. Some of the speculation has been plainly ridiculous - such as the Twitter rumour about Chalobah for £4.5m.

To be fair, he is only responding to points put to him. That being said, if this new DoF they have is so good, it begs the question why he's been at PSV for so long.

The Ryan Cassidy one is my favourite - that Everton are interested in buying a player that I doubt Silva even knew existed. And that they are exploring on his behalf whether he can play for England even though he's as Irish as Father Ted.

Ha, it's more that we have changed the responsibilities of our DoF this summer

Under Walsh, it was ambiguous and broadly became a pseudo head scout where the manager had just as much input into the decisions about whether to buy a player or not

We've gone the other way and implemented a "proper" DoF now (much like I assume how Watford operate), which gives the manager v little influence about who to buy (a few people on here speculated that Silva having more say in transfers might be a reason he wanted to come to Everton - where at best he will now have as much input as he had at Watford)

The reason for referencing him as much as we have up to now is that he's a more important addition than Silva - the system should work that managers come and go, but if the DoF has a strategy in place, changing head coach should be less disruptive than it is under the traditional British model. In fact Watford, with the odd bump in the road, are a decent example of this. We now at least have a guy who's been doing this role for many years (and sacked Koeman once too - that bit pleases me), rather than a guy who was a scout his whole career and once picked up a couple of gems from the lower leagues in France

    Can't really answer that

We tried to get him two years ago but he turned us down, and he was allegedly under consideration by Chelsea to replace Emenalo

Other than that, I can't really tell you why he stayed at PSV for 8 years. Although surely the point of a DoF is that they have more longevity than a amanger?

Fair enough but if he is quoted correctly as calling him the next big thing or whatever it was he probably does know him. Just speculation on my behalf mind.

Some quotes are coming out of his press conference.

"It is my goal and the club's goal. I have joined not for one or two years. It is a big project. The staff showed how big the project is. The club is huge, not as big as my watch or ego, but huge nonetheless".

    On Watford:

"I don't want to talk about this situation. It is not the moment to talk about it."

Because we all know he doesn't like talking openly to the press and prefers to do it behind people's back.

    Can Blues Sign Watford Players?
“It will start in the next few days: names and names and names. But the first thing we will do is analyse what we have at the club. We will be assertive and find the right targets for us.”

    Richarlison?
    “Who?” Silva replies to laughter.

“I have a big list of names,” he continues. “We have a big squad of players but we will do everything we can to improve and bring more competition. That is something I like. But we will analyse our squad and our young players and then look outside.”

Whilst I don't expect they'd come out and say they won't be signing any players from us, they are living in dreamland if they think Gino would even entertain listening to them.

So Silva hasn't ruled out going for Watford players. I'm pretty sure they know Watford would not be doing any business with Everton, but they seem to have spiteful, vindictive characters currently within their set-up.

I think they will go for Watford players, not because they especially want them, but if throws a spanner into the works, they would be more than willing to do this. If they manage to unsettle our players, then it will be job done.

It depends upon how they go about it, if they were to do that. I suspect that if the PL want us to do further mediation with Everton and if we have evidence of tapping up they would tread very carefully with us.

Hmmm. I’m not so sure they would do that, just because of the ongoing case with the PL. they should do all they can to project an innocent image and that won’t help. If they go for any of our players, it will be because they want them.

I’d say Doucoure would probably stay with us if it was between us and them. But I suspect he will have better offers. I just can’t see him playing for them as it’s not really a huge step up and he’s loved by our fans so I genuinely think he wouldn’t go.

    Who else? Pereyra maybe?

Chalobah and Hughes are good enough but I think Gino wouldn’t entertain the idea.

Richarlison is the obvious one. They know that if they were to bid, it’s likely he’d want to go and has the ability to kick up a fuss and get the move. Hopefully Gino and Co can work some magic though if the situation arises. I think the ace we may hold is ‘London’ over ‘Liverpool’ and he seems the type to really value being around the capital and Brazilian friends etc. I know some think he’s not as good as first thought but I genuinely think he will come good again with a summer away from the game. I’d have no issue with him going to a big club for lots of money - but Everton would leave a very sour taste in the mouth.

I wonder how long it'll take for Sliver to criticise Everton's recruitment even though he has brought in all his mates.

    He shouldn't be

Whether he leaves or not is not something I would pretend to be able to venture an opinion about, but you can quote me on this down the line.. he will not be coming to Everton. For a variety of reasons

Doucoure - not even being mentioned. Would appear William Carvalho is the main midfield target as things stand

Other than the kid Cassidy, there hasn't even been a vague sniff of a rumour other than Richarlison, which is only people speculating that Everton *may* be interested because they know we want someone who plays in that sort of role. Hirving Lozano, Quincy Promes and Justin Kluivert have all been linked in various different rags/websites. The Richarlison bit appears to only have been people putting two and two together and coming up with apple pie - he'd be too expensive anyway. Premier League players, on the whole, are over-valued and there appears to be a big push to get more value out of the market this summer rather than being the team that everyone sees coming

And yes, the "London" thing is a factor. We have missed out on lots of players over the last decade or more because of this. Cheshire, The Wirral and Formby are all lovely places to live, but it's difficult to compete with the players who value the London lifestyle

It’s gonna be a tricky one. I agree with our Everton friend, it’s unlikely for a number of reasons. The biggest one that I simply don’t think they could afford him. Personally, given his potential, I think Gino will want £50m for him at least. That rules a lot of suitors out. When you couple that with the fact that Gino won’t even entertain Moshiri’s money in all likelihood....

The concern is that Everton still come calling knowing all of the above and the boy gets upset when we say he can’t join Snakey. Hopefully I’m doing him a discredit on his personality in that respect though.

“It's a big project, a big challenge for us as a technical staff as well.

“The club had a fantastic approach. They showed how big the project is as well;”

Didn’t he rattle off the same rubbish when he joined us?
