Why are people panicking? If we get something close to a point a game, we’ll stay up, calm down people. Swansea are still effectively 7 points behind us, and we’re in 10th. To go down we’ll have had to - historically - had one of the worst runs in PL history. We aren’t that bad. Eventually teams turn a corner and nick a couple of wins.
One thing is for sure. We cannot afford to lose at Stoke. Our next 5 are Stoke (a ), Chelsea (h ), West Ham (a ), Everton (h), West Brom (h). We need at least 7 points from those. If we get that, I'd be confident we'll steer clear of the scrap. A significantly lower total and we'll be right in the thick of it.
Lets hope our home form picks up or Arsenal/Liverpool and Spurs have an off day as they can... Certainly wouldn't want to be going to Old Trafford on the final day needing something!
Not sure we could do that against Liverpool yet, but I think the new manager will set us up as a much more stable unit. Mawson looked great. I can't believe some of our fans wouldn't want us to sign him.
'Don't panic, don't panic'! I appear to be reverting to as many late '60s/early '70s comedies as I can tonight.
I don’t think anyone said they wouldn’t want him. I think it was almost unanimous though that we didn’t think we should spent £25m on him.
Crikey Southampton a top 20 rich list club. Now thats a modern day well run club there. Buy low sell high.
Non related but crikey Wenger just actually pedalled out the 'We have to pay off the stadium still' line even though they are the 5th richest club in world football.....
Carroll and Lanzini out for 3 months and 6 weeks respectively at West Ham, which may restrict them a bit
The reality is was it stands we are in a relegation battle. If we get a result against Stoke then we can all relax a bit and it would be fairly safe to say the new manager has enough about him to get us to safety. Right now it’s completely unknown until the Stoke game. The difficult thing about Stoke is Lambert will have only had two games with them, so our new man will not be able be able to do too much of his supposed trade mark analysis on them.
If we lose the 5 games left against the top 6, to get to 40 points we need to win more than we lose against the rest so 7pts (2 wins and a draw and a defeat (plus defeat to chelsea)) would be about the rate of accumulation that we need.
We need Gracia to do what he did against Barca and Real in his good season at Malaga. Hopefully he’ll study the top 6 teams sufficiently enough to maybe pick up a suprise win and a couple of draws.
He has come in currently injured though, to be fair. He admitted as much in a pre-match interview on Sky at the weekend.
How many of our squad have the stomach for a relegation battle? I’m thinking of actually having the cajones rather than whether or not they are good enough for the Prem? I’d go for: Gomes Mariappa Watson Cleverly Doucoure Richarlison Deeney Gray Maybe: Okaka Hughes Chalobah Feminia I would’nt want the rest of the bunch of spineless losers anywhere near my team.
I would of put Pereyra in the Maybe column but his form since returning from injury has been absolutely shocking.
Richy was fighting tooth and nail trying yo make something happen. He's definitely im the yes category.
Yeah, I think he tries. Often tracking back to cover Holebas or Zeegler and is almost as desperate to score as he is to move on!
After that performance today, I think we are gone. It was so so bad. Only hope would be some signings before mid week because those playing today were fecking clueless.
Its probably why he keeps playing. Never gives up and can use both feet - more than most of our other players!
I'd argue he's a lot more 1 footed than we think he is. Not to discount your other points but he seems no more 2 footed than say Pereyra.
I think he needs a rest, too much expectation placed upon him. He’s stopped producing and yet there is nobody to replace him with.
