He said this when interviewed after the Leicester game on Saturday. Nothing to see here.

And the chatty girl has ended up with Allardyce.

Politically correct reply though isn't it? No player can publicly come out and say 'we stopped trying our best after everton tried to poach our Head Coach'.

I'm not sure really what else Karnezis could say.

    Hi guys,

My name is Pierre. I'm a freelance reporter for a Swedish sports site (www.svenskafans.com). Spending 1 month in London, reporting about different games, interviews with fans, players, etc. Looks like I'll head over and watch the Watford-Southampton U23 game tonight.

Just wondering if anyone would be up for a chat? Talk about Silva's departure and about the ongoing season.

    Kind regards
    Pierre

Just wandered over to saintsweb to look at their fa cup match thread and a thread dedicated to Silva, most of tgem wanting to get him in asap.

Would probably do ok for them for the remaining games if he can get his head sorted. Still a risk though after failing with both us and Hull after good starts.

At least if he gets snapped up quickly it may mean less of a pay off from us!!!

Yes it would limit any compensation for damages.

But does Southampton's ambition match his own? Surely a move there would be slumming a bit. And they might not even want Carrillo or Slimani.

Football management, one of the only jobs in the world where you get paid off when you get sacked for doing a crap job.

Yes but 6 or 7 good results and he can try to negotiate a move to a second rate club rather than slumming it at a 3rd rate club like us or Soton.

Is it true that the usual rules don't apply? I'm not so sure. There is a lot of money in the premiership but, whereas it might seem distasteful, is that immoral in itself? It might be to you if you're a long way to the left of the political spectrum, otherwise it's a matter for the free market. Some people might be ruthless in their decision making, some might be selfish. But what is there that is unusual in those things? When he signed the contract he was making a promise; he wanted to break that promise and, it would seem, didn't like it when he didn't get his way. If a club wish to dispose of a manager they are also required to honour their half of the promise; in this case usually by financial compensation in a way that has been agreed during the promise-making episode. The club have behaved perfectly properly, in my view.

The difference is that Silva wanted to break a contract against the other party's wishes. Watford broke no contracts when they dispensed with Joka, QSF and Wally. In the former case Silva was being disloyal and Watford weren't. In the latter cases, even though you may say it is a technicality, neither side owed any further loyalty, the contracts either being fulfilled or containing agreed break clauses.

Yes agreed. But Everton we’re willing to pay the 2nd largest compensation ever for a manager so Silva wasn’t expecting to break his contract without the club getting recompense. I totally agree the club have acted correctly. My concern is we are never going to attract a manager who looks at us as a 5 year project and that is a shame.

I think the owners will be willing to hand out longer contracts once a manger proves himself. They’ve shown plenty of loyalty to players, so I don’t see why they’d be any different with managers. They’re not reckless so they’re not about to give out 5 year deals to a manger who has no experience of the PL. I’m confident if we get a manager who performs well for a whole season they’ll be offered better terms. The problem is we’ve never had a manager (arguably other than Joka) manage to do that.

We will only ever have a manager for more than a season or two if he's just about good enough to keep his job but not good enough to move up the chain. Lots of 13th place finishes with no long winning or losing streaks ! It's pretty unlikely. Best we can hope for is we repeatedly lose managers for over-performance.

I also doubt we will get a five year manager. However for now I would take 2 years gladly.
Despite all the negative press against the Pozzos managerial record I think they made few mistakes. They should have only appointed McKinlay as a caretaker so that could not be used against them. In hindsight I suspect they will wish they had met Joka's demands - not that we know how he would have performed at this higher level.

Idk, you have to imagine they were pretty ridiculous if qsf - so had managed and been successful at getafe, Benfica, Valencia and athletico Madrid - was considered better value.

The one uncomfortable element in all is that the relationships have generally ended so poorly.

Is there something in Gino’s management style that is too unbending, relentless or ruthless?

My sense at the time was that the package thing was a smokescreen.

I think Gino wanted to upgrade.

I hope Gino doesn’t overthink appointments & end up increasing churn: I want a promotion coach; I want a staying up coach; I want a pushing for Europe coach.

    Talented people learn & develop.

If as stories go Silva negotiated terms with Everton whilst under contract he should have been sacked without compensation for breach of contract. I bet Fat Sam is now hoping for the sack with his contract paid up so he can have the rest of the calendar year off until one of next season's strugglers come calling and then Moshiri will appoint his first choice Silva and it will have cost him less than the compensation offered to Watford. I think when Pozzo said NO to Moshiri he should have accepted it and respected Watford's position.

I don't blame Everton for the nosedive in form, but I do blame Marco for not maintaining professionalism. Nobody to blame but himself. It's just frustrating that so many people have this narrative to maintain about how trigger-happy our owners are. I guess it gets people more Twitter likes when they claim we sacked him for a laff.

Its always difficult to stay on good terms when you've fired someone and given someone else "their job".
Same with relationships in life, hard as you try, a mutual split is never quite "mutual" and "we are staying friends" never really works out that way.

Not sure if it' been mentioned yet, but David Pleat had his say on the Silva sacking this morning on radio 5. Apparently its another example of unrealistic expectations by football club owners according to him. It' a special kind of ignorance really

Ah, the siege mentality - kept us going in the 80s and stiffening our resolve (or something) now. It's a rather more benign "Millwall Mindset".

But that was never going to happen - and although it seemed harsh at the time I think Dyche did well to get out of the turmoil following Ba's departure - it would have been worse for him if he had stayed and had a mediocre time and then go the push. I do not think Dyche and the Pozzos would fit well together.

I think the real problem with our managers is that they aren't ambitious enough.

As soon as we are safe they throw the towel in and go on holiday in their mind, add they think it is job done. Even with silva, I think it was a lack of ambition that led him to switch off ; an ambitious manager would be looking to succeed in all circumstances. He saw an easy way out by moving to Everton, as he could skip developing this club to that level even though it would probably (now we'll never know) have been entirely possible given how things clicked so well initially.

We need more ambitious managers, as counter-intuitive as that sounds. Managers who don't switch off at the first opportunity.

Our owners have been consistently let down by managers who simply don't have any real hunger to succeed.

This new guy has said he has the energy to win every match, but that his ambition in life is just to be happy with his family and in his job. On paper at least, that seems to be the sort of mature ambition we need. A manager who is confident and energetic and aims to win every game, but grounded enough to have some life-perspective.

Who knows if he will be any good, but hopefully he is able to match the ambitions of the owners for once.
