It's okay to be honest and arrogant when you're scoring and a 8/10 every week. Truth is, Troy hasn't been that consistently enough for a long, long time. See Holebas, he's been a moody one for years. When he's playing badly it's a problem, when he's playing good it's endearing and seen as passion.
Sometimes I'm embarrassed when I read fellow Horns fans' comments. Deeney obviously now splits opinions on here, but regardless of your view, to suggest pleasure or not to care that he has got a three match ban is ludicrous. We are so overloaded with strikers aren't we?
A few Slimani rumours springing up again. WBA still need a striker as do Stoke (and Palace), wouldn't be surprised if January sees Deeney go there and Slimani to us . If Gray or Okaka steps up to the plate over next weeks we may not see Deeney in a Watford shirt again .
I think he has to "take his medicine" because of the arm-band he wears. "Captain" is supposed to mean something more than an extra credit in the written media....
I think it's strange to write Troy off completely, as he's proven many times over the years that he's capable of rising to the occasion. He wasn't great on Saturday - but then again it wasn't a great team performance, despite all the possession. Do we have to have a de facto number one striker? Can we not just play the person who suits the type of game its suspected to be, so Gray against some teams, Troy against others? The general consensus on here from our games verses Arsenal and Chelsea was that Troy made the difference in the former, and his removal during the latter is what cost us the game. I totally agree that Okaka should also be vying for a spot - one of them starting plus the option of both the others on the bench seems like a no brainer to me? If he's not in the squad this weekend, then I'll be pretty sure that's him done at Watford.
Silva clearly wants Slimani , as revealed by reports that he was very close to signing in summer . That would put Deeney 3rd or even 4th choice striker . Bad business to be paying big wages to a player who isn't likely to play .
Pretty sure he is not £28m good which is what Leicester paid for him, that's not his fault of course. Can't see them wanting to take a massive pill on the re-sale, loan deal or Denney swap?
70 minutes in we are 3-0 down with Gray up front. Okaka somehow managers to get subbed on, scores 4 goals, cures cancer, solves the problems in the middle east all in 20 minutes. Next game Gray starts, Sinclair takes Okaka's place on the bench
Deeney swap could be interesting. I'd go for that. I was browsing an everton forum and they were saying they'd like to see them get deeney. So he is still highly regarded by some outside our club at least. I have a feeling this january will be our last chance to cash him in for any meaningful sum of cash/player swap.
Everton ain't got no strikers to swap with us, m8. Well, until some s**t bags a hattrick on Sunday, that is.
Deeney has had his day unfortunately. He is no longer the club's talisman and is opening his mouth at the wrong time to often nowadays. He needs to be moved out in January so we can all remember him as a legend before that status is tarnished.
Ban in coming or just a fine? Guess it will be the former as they will see Troy has history. Austin has now been charged for swearing at the Man City fans yet they let players get away with it all the time to officials! Inconsistency reigns
The FA really don’t help themselves. Just a bunch of old men making it up as they go along and making decisions based on public opinion. See also: banning virtual unknown Niasse for diving yet letting off PL poster boy Mo Salah for worse dive(s) because it would have meant him missing the game of the season versus Man City.
Absolute joke! This is really pathetic from the FA. Charlie Austin runs his mouth for a whole minute about the ref and how VAR is needed now. Deeney makes one remark, the ref bottled it, and he is charged. If I was Deeney and he gets a ban, I would claim racism. Austin wasn’t charged because he was white. Not true I know, but in today’s climate, might as well kick up a whole big fuss and turn the tables. Go public, get a whole bunch of non football loving people to call it a disgrace on social media, make the FA go viral etc. It’s typical that the FA do this now, right before we play their other beloved plucky club with the ex England gaff in charge. Deeney made those comments 8 days ago! It takes that long to decide, pathetic! No wonder VAR is so slow.
Well as pointed out above he still has 5 days to respond so will play on Saturday and no doubt get asked more questions putting pressure on him.
I don’t have a problem with the FA charging him. It’s been a long time coming. Deeney has to learn to be smarter in his interviews. You can’t speak like you’re down the pub with your mates. “The ref bottled it”, “they tried to do Clevs”. Seriously, did anyone think the outcome would be any different?
The FA are an embarrassment to football in this country. A bunch of inept individuals who have no idea about the modern game. As Brian Clough sagely said the FA stands for something but it isn't football association. You can fill in the appropriate words yourselves.
