Yes that might tempt certain types into inappropriate photo ops! They could tone it down somewhat.. or better still put the statue on the roof of the shop to stop any such shenanigans.
Here ya go Stevo, no need to worry about those chaps at *****. Send me a pic of your face and Ill put you in the crowd if you like.
Cheers but how did you manage that? Ive been trying to edit out ***** watermarks for years! Have you found them elsewhere with no watermark? or is this some form of witchcraft?
Witchcraft. I direct VFX for Hollywood. Before it was all CGI we had to paint a lot of stuff frame by frame, so can paint stuff out pretty quickly.
No way! Well i opened up both pics to see if i could find evidence of any editing and i couldnt see any at all. PS No need to put me in the crowd cause i was in the Rookery that evening. That's probably my arms up in the air somewhere
Back to the pics. This is another image from the past that i feel was very iconic for a particular era of the club. Endean vs Liverpool FA cup QF 1970. It became quite a well known image at the time..
What's the odd torso between friends Been meaning to ask you Jossy. Your avatar.. is it you in the middle?
It is. Was an open day either pre-season 88 or 89, can't remember. Fair to say I've changed a bit since. Tony Coton was my favourite player, so I was over the moon to get that picture done (it was a polaroid which faded horribly over the years, but I managed to colour correct it in photoshop after I scanned it). Funniest thing about that open day - they let the fans on the pitch at the end to play against the team (11 v approx 200). Rod Thomas was taking the ball around everybody, so Tim Sherwood crept up behind him and pushed him over. Thomas was not happy, Sherwood was on the floor laughing. We just stood there, not really knowing what to make of it!
It is.. Barnes with the 2nd goal. I shall post a few more this evening but a pic concerned about taking over the board.. especially as i have about 200 i want to post Perhaps we should have a "historical Horns" section on the board? PS Brilliant that about your avatar. A great thing to have.
When GT used to invite fans to sit on the bench (where is he though?) Looks like LWT were doing a feature on it..
Yes please post some more shots - love the historical photos. The Grobbelaar (sp?) one is fantastic. Is that when we beat them 2-0 in 1987? Or the year before? It's more tricky when clubs kept kits for multiple seasons! Edit: Is that Steve Talbort in the shot? If so rules out the 2-0 win as think we sold him before that.
Brian Talbot.. so that must have been the 2-3 defeat in 85/86. Which leaves a bit of a mystery as i thought that was Les Taylor's hair behind Grob.. but he didnt play in that game. It must be Lee Sinnott i think.
The scene on the dugout/bench sure has changed over the years....... (Wally and Paolo De Toffol fighting during W. Brom game)
Quite good quality footage of the game: There's an even better quality version on YouTube uploaded by the FA, but it only shows the goals.
Loving this thread. Top photos, top videos. I'd give anything to be able to go back and stand under the scoreboard in 1978/9. That was me at my happiest.
Weird anomaly but the clock at the famous Clock End read 12 O clock but judging from the shadows the game was clearly an afternoon kick off.
Another great pic from the Arsenal game in 87; Barnes heading past Lukic: Worth a read: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/watfords-1987-hero-luther-blissett-7542438
Sorry Jossy i didnt read what you'd written about the FA clip and posted it anyway. Think i need to read your posts better in future! PS As you are into the history of the club (and others) then i thought i'd point you in the direction of this website.. if you havent already seen it. https://oldwatford.com/ Good quality scans of Watford programs & press clippings going way back to the 1920's. Takes some searching but either use the dates down the right hand side or you can search on individual players, opposition or topics down the bottom.
Elton.. Rod.. girl getting carried off by the St John's ambulance folk. Old main Stand in the background..
Just a few pics from the excellent https://oldwatford.com/ website suggested by Stevohorn that I cut and cropped out: David Bardsley taking a corner with the new "Rous Stand" in the background, with the yet-to-be complete, temporary lower tier visible: The prolific Trevor Senior with his back to us during our 0-1 defeat to Man Utd. I was at this game and sat in the lower Rous so am possibly one of the blurred specs in the background. And Iwan Roberts getting the crucial second goal against Charlton in what at the time was a bottom-of-the-table clash (both teams on 9 points if I remember correctly). Malcolm Allen had given us the lead in the first minute, Charlton got one back right near the end to ensure a nervy finish. Don't think I'm in shot in this one as we used to sit nearer the Vic Road end.
I wonder if there will be a time when the 1980's "hotpants" shorts will come back into vogue? PS Hope not!
