I saw Ross playing for Palace once and was impressed. I was amazed when he dropped down to Watford. I didn't see him again until we moved to Herts in GT's first season, so I missed all the bad stuff. But he did look good that first time, even if Watford fans who saw his earlier appearances at the Vic wold have found that hard to believe.

Forgot about him, injured on his debut, on loan from Blackburn I believe, we have had a few debut injuries which has put paid to what was a hyped up player being our saviour at the time.

Not a debut but nearly Gareth Williams!!!!

Appararently when Ross scored his second he was running back to the centre and John Farley said " theres no stopping him now " little did he know how right he would be as in the following seasons .................

I didn't realise that the corner terrace in the SW corner was only built in 1979. I stood on there the night Watford beat Forest 4-1 in the League Cup in October 1980. I was a 10 year old Forest fan before my father forcibly converted me to the Hornets.

I remember our first floodlights (mounted on the East & Shrodells Stand. I seem to remember we bought them from Arsenal when they upgraded.

I didn't let that dampen my spirits when Ian Wallace scored the solitary Forest goal. Me and my mate, were virtually the only people cheering on the whole terrace.

It was a rather surreal evening..We expected a tense, tough match but scored 4 times between 40th and 60th minutes and then had over 30 minutes of nothing very much apart from a Forest consolation

The year we went up to Div 1 we were 4-0 up against Wednesday by half time, which pretty much guaranteed promotion. I remember seeing Big Jack shake Ross's hand as he walked off. He was that good.

Farley and Billy Jennings came into the side about the same time (may have even debuted same game) broke my heart when we flogged them to Wolves and spam. Farley looked like a really good winger in the making. Don't know what happened at Wolves but Jennings did well for West Ham.

Farley did ok for Wolves without setting the world alight. 43 games and no goals (though of course he was a winger)

    Nice little interview here.. http://www.wolvesheroes.com/2009/06/04/no-goals-and-a-few-regrets/

He retired in 1981 after one season at Bury and apparently ran a pub in Borehamwood for a while before moving to Hull and starting his own joinery business, where he still is today.
    No wiki page oddly.

Pitch is remarkably green for an early January ? Surely not a publicity photo taken in August?

    Correct.

I was surprised to see that many flags under the scoreboard actually. I cant remember that many until the Euro nights. Anyway ive got more pics from that night, see if i can find them.

Surreal indeed. Forest hardly let us have a kick until we started scoring goals, and once we started we didn't stop. Happy days!

I remember that match. There was a small hole in the concrete somewhere in the middle of the Vic Road terrace. Nobody was near it, so I went to stand behind it where I would have a good view. A policeman told me to move. "Why?", I asked. "Because I said so." "Now give me a good reason". At which point he threatened to throw me out. I moved away a bit, but saw other people having pretty much the same conversation with this officer of the law. At the end of the match I went up to a police inspector who was standing there all smiles, and told him I'd never seen the police have such an effect on the mood of a football crowd. He kept smiling until I told him why his bullying subordinate had pissed people off.

    My wife reckons I'm a world-class grudge-bearer....

I reckon that was after the victory over Liverpool on the final day of the season 1982/83.

    My favorite ever game.

May 13th 1983. Having just beaten Liverpool 2-1.. the players have finished their lap of honour and are awaiting the result from the Man United game to see if we had grabbed runners up. There's an even better pic of Elton turning to GT at the precise moment the news came through on the tannoy of Uniteds defeat at Notts County. See if i can find it.

    Have a read here.. http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/35834.html/

I used to have a high res version of this but cant find it now.

Shame but anyway this captures the very moment the tannoy announces the Man United result. For me it's the most iconic photo there is of the club.. giving what it signifies.
I suggested a while back it would have also made for a good statue of the pair of them.
