Think all of Troy's actions against city show that he is off, like at half time messing around with Henry and Redknapp rather than trying to rally the team in the changing room. I think he has had enough to be honest.

Haha, if we sell him for 25-35 mill, the reaction of the West Brom fans after a dozen or so games will be priceless.

I thought the half time team talk was the head coach's job. Sorry, the head coach's translator's job.

Rallying the team and a half time team talk is completely different, either way in any other club there is no way the club captain would be absent from the changing room after being 4-0 down at half time. Deeney had youth team players playing and IMO he should be setting an example.

You mean when he was walking over to the youngsters and giving them a pep talk as they were about to come on?

Stick to the facts. You have no idea why he was on the pitch at half time.

I would say if we can get anywhere near 25 to 30 million it would be day light robbery. I am a big fan of Troy and it will be hard to see a club legend go but I think it is the right time to sell him and in all honesty without trying to sound like I am scapegoating one of my favourite ever players for the club, he is overrated and has a low goal return, I get that he has been slightly isolated this season but I just don't think he has it in him to be a real threat in this division. I just feel for the money we could potentially get for Troy and his salary we could do better.

£25 million in the bank for Deeney, plus Premier League parachute payments will put us in a strong position to bounce back at the first attempt at the end of the 18/19 Championship season. Look to the future.

Bizarrely, £3.5m back then was probably worth more to us than £25m would be now. That was a painful time for the club from a financial point of view. The money in the top division now is just non nonsensical.

If we could be absolutely sure there was a decent replacement coming in who could guarantee at least 15 goals per season, then £25-30m would be a great deal. But if we replace him with some Serie A reject or somebody who once had a good season in the Belgian league a few years back then I think it'll be the wrong move to let him go whatever the fee is.

I'm still leaning towards the glass is half full when saying that he managed double figures despite the chaotic shambles behind the scenes with Mazzarri that have undoubtedley affected his game. With the right coach and perhaps a Vydra-type-player alongside him, I reckon Deeney could prove all the doubters wrong yet again. At the very least I'd like to see him have the chance to prove himself in a better, happier side next season. If he wants to leave, imo the blame lies firmly at the door of Mazzarri for taking us backwards over the past year and sucking the life out of one of our greatest players of recent times.

Stick to the facts yourself! How do you know he was giving them a pep talk?

I heard he was telling Eleftheriou and Pereira that whoever can walk off with Vincent Kompany's shirt at the end of the game, wins a lollipop.

Maybe someone else has heard a different story?

His agent has made it pretty clear that he wants off. You expect the odd rumour but Everton, WBA, Newcastle, Leeds, leicester and West ham have all been linked in recent weeks.

His had his fill of pay rises, so one more signing on pay day should bolster the bank balance nicely.

His been a great servant, but time to move on

Definitely. Buying that fat useless lump nearly bankrupted the club. Probably the most damaging signing in our entire history

Whether it's Schmidt or Silva, they both like to play fast counter attacking football...that ain't happening with Troy in the line up.

Nonsense. He was a massive waste of space and absorbed most of that season's transfer budget but he never affected the financial health of the club.

He was also on huge wages. Apart from spending the "ring-fenced" new stand money on him, he drained large amounts of money from the club for the full length of his contract, at a time when we were skint anyway. I don't blame him BTW, it's probably not his fault he was crap. I blame the idiots who bought him & gave him a whacking great contract.

He went out on loan for most of his contract with the loan club picking the majority of his wages. Derby even paid over £1m as a loan fee one season.

Plus we didn't make the final payment of around £750k as he didn't play enough games.

Still a waste of money anyway you look at it

You mean like the football we played in getting out of the champ and 2 years before under Zola? Yes Troy would never have got in those teams.

Excellent comparison....you're right because the Championship is just like the Premier League...I'd facepalm if I wasn't laughing so much.

Walsall stand to get £5 mill out of this deal, 20% sell on fee.

Their existing transfer record is £300 k.

If they've got sensible owners and have enough time to spend the cash , might be worth sneaking a bet on for promotion for them next year .

I don't even know what division they re in !

    You're a bit annoying aren't you?

You do realise that fast counter attacking football doesn't equal a team full of nimble two-footed attack minded players? Deeney in the #10 position with two tricky wingers either side and a pacy striker up top, would work a treat.

Pulis must really really want Troy, or at least whoever buys players for him at Brom really really wants him. I must say I find it surprising they're prepared to push the boat out quite so far to get him. TBF he's good, but he's not exactly Ag*ero good, probably not even Benteke good. It's almost like when you bid way above your initial limit for something on Ebay just because you're bloody darn well gonna have it even if it kills you.

Glad I cheered you up out of your negative malaise for a few minutes. Likewise if we identify a striker who has been successful in that style around Europe that would also be hilarious as it would be different from the prem?

I was critical of Deeney at the start of the season - but to get 10 goals in this current rabble of a team is impressive. He has been isolated up front all season, being given long hopeful balls to deal with - surrounded by defenders and has had little more than scraps to fend off .... I can't remember him missing many chances as he hasn't had many. Deeney owes us nothing, he has done his bit on and off the field.
Some people moan about his media work - but given what duxburry said about WM and his hopes for the new manager being a mouth piece and ambassador for the clubs good work and raising the clubs profile - I would suggest as club captain and being English and our talisman that the club has 100% supported and encouraged him to do the media work as WM was so incompetent and their are very few other players that can support him in this side of modern football.

I would like to see him stay, I fear for us he is a player who does more than we realise and it could very will be a case of we don't know what we'd got until it's gone.

However I think Deeney needs to rediscover a bit of his mojo that I feel was lost purely out of frustration. He needs to come back fitter and leaner. He needs to remember that after being a father and a husband he is a footballer - he is still young really and the media can wait a little bit - keep doing your charity and community work but be more selective on the media work, cut it down 50% and go for quality not quantity.

Hopefully Deeney stays - but if not, he owes us nothing and I wish him good luck with his next move.

The fact I've annoyed you brings me so much joy and as a result I'm encouraged to do it more often.

You do realise that playing fast counter attacking football requires a mobile front runner, who will work the channels to create space for other runners? The whole point of it is to draw defenders out of position?

Deeney is statuesque which is why we lump the ball forward whenever he plays. If you've noticed when we play with someone like Okaka, we tried to build up through midfield because he's more mobile and runs the channels. Deeney doesn't.

Sorry if that annoys you, but it's a fact not lost on many people on here, so deal with it.
