If we want a player with attitude, sign Berahino from West Brom, at least he's home grown and under 30.

Signing Zarate smacks of when we signed Steve Kabba in a forlorn attempt to stave off relegation in the Hoofroyd era.

Isnt it more akin to the Suarez signing - Head Coach in January window identifies solution to a problem within the squad. Lets hope this one turns out to be a better recommendation

Jesus, do we really need more maniac foreigners with bad attitudes here?

Blimey. Were we still trying to stave off relegation when we signed Kabba. Think I'd given up by the November that year. I retrospectively admire our naivety - seems a different age.

On this one, its uninspiring, but who knows. We could splash £15m on a 'name' who fails to score at all. Or pick up a Carlos Kickaballs like Zarate on loan who might get the 2-3 goals/assists that could make the difference.

Personally I think our problems are too deep for one or two January signings to fix. I think we have just - just - about enough to hang in there this season, but another summer of churn awaits.

Remember how excited everyone got when we were meant to be close to signing Iturbe for mega bucks? Not saying that Zarate is going to be any good should he even sign, but as with all transfers if the deal is low risk such as loan with option to buy then it could pay off, we have seen before that massive price tags don't guarantee a good player!

Nor do cheapo/lone signings mean they are any good.

Signing a player with a 'bad attitude' is never low risk.

Hmmmm. So he signed for two prem teams who were then relegated. Sounds a good investment to me

Yes you are right - when Kabba signed i was optimistic and he had not fallen out with every club and be moved on a few months after joining them

    Edit: Beat me to it.

On a serious note: I actually think Zarate will surprise a few people, but that still doesn't change my opinion that he's the wrong type of player to be going after.

Dont know why but I reckon this Zarate is going to do alright for us.

Quick bit of Stat research shows that if he did sign for WFC he would have a higher goals and goals/assists ratio per minutes played than other play at the club.

In the EPL he averages a goal every 209 minutes and a goal or assist every 171 minutes . He has a similar record in the Serie A playing for Lazio, Fiorentina and Inter. Reasonable stats for a second striker/ winger type.

As a comparison Bojan who is a similar player and it seems is a popular option amongst fans averages an EPL goal every 256 minutes and a goal/assist per minute ratio of 207.

EDIT Amrabat has not scored for us in over 2070 mins of EPL football and averages an assist every 700 minutes on the pitch .... and he's our player of the season !
Sauces ( for those of a numerically condimented mindset)......

Ighalo scores one every 277 minutes in the PL. Doesn't mean I want him up top for us.

Ive decided Im going to hero worship him until about 20 minutes into his debut, by which time I will already have decided he s pony, but promise myself I wont be unfair and give him until HT before I completely right him off .

I will then move him over to the "Boo Boy " column on my "WFC Players Cheer/Boo/Meh" spreadsheet I keep frequently updated .

I would never refer to either of your logins as 'idiot'.

Still, in the spirit of the new 'WFCForums Way', I'll say that I'm very happy that you believe it's a good signing and want to tell us how wrong we are.

Like you did with Diamanti, Ibarbo, Suarez and Berghouse.

It's going to be a big season for Zarate.

He's a creative player which we've all been crying out for. Let's give him a chance at least. For what it's worth this is a quote from a Weat Ham friend who has seen him play more than myself.

"Love him. He's busy and sharp and a lot of fun. Like most creative players, you won't get it out of him 90 mins every week but if you give him the keys, he'll open locks for you. Never got a fair crack at us because he was signed under Sam and Slav fancied Dimi and Lanzini more."

If you look at his figures for the past year only it's one every ice age though.
