I was thinking that or even sold to Granada, they must be short a couple of forward players.

It's a shame, this time last year I was predicting him to be our player of the year.

Why have we just spent £12.5m on Success if Vydra was going to be the number three striker. That would also leave Sinclair further down the pecking order than he was at Liverpool!

Success isn't really an out and out striker. More of a wide forward. Would imagine him and Sinclair are options to allow us to play 433/343 as well as 352.

Hope he does not go to Sheffield Wednesday and scores a dozen goals this season - The pages of forum meltdown would be intolerable.

Think Vydra should be ahead of Sinclair in the pecking order as an alternative to Deeney/Ighalo. Sinclair represents far more of a risk to step in and carry the goal scoring burden - he has scored one goal in senior football and that was against League 2 Exeter, Vydra has scored 50 goals in English football.

It's amazing how one player can polarise opinions to such a degree.
My view is purely based on what I've seen him do in the flesh for us. Not what he has done elsewhere. I've never seen a better one on one finisher and with his speed, and us to be likely to play on the break, I thought he'd have a great season in the prem. To ship him out and have Oulare as the reserve striker was a terrible decision.
Still think he can score a hatful if given the chance. As others have said I don't see Sinclair and success as out and out strikers.

He's lost some of his pace and sharpness since the injury he had a couple of seasons ago. Also, some players start off bright in their careers but end up on a deserved downward trajectory, for whatever underlying reason - would anyone here want Sordell back now, for example, even though he had one good goalscoring season for us in the Championship?...

I just think that Vydra is a good Championship-level player, like Ross McCormack but more handsome and with a fancier sounding foreign name, which are probably reasons why some people on here have such a shine for him.

Not me. My heart belongs to highgrade. He didn't seem to have lost his pace in his last season for us? Comparisons with Sordell and McCormack are irrelevant. He hadn't lost any form for us? I'm not surprised he didn't perform last season for a **** reading team when he'd expected to be banging in the goals alongside TD & OI having just signed a new 5 year deal.

Success does not qualify for a work permit. In order for him to get one, he needs to be classed as an exceptional player who will improve the overall squad, to do that, you have to spend a certain amount of money above £12 million. At least I think so! That's why we paid our sister club that fee, that and the fact his previous club were due 5% solidarity payment as well.

Our best finisher by a mile.
I'd play him and Deeney up front everytime. Does anyone who has watched us for the past 3 years seriously believe Ighalo is better than Matty?

It's true that he was lethal in the Championship and he hasn't had much of a crack in the Premier League except out of position at West Brom. However, you've got to earn that chance and if he doesn't make the squad this season despite us only having two senior strikers then you've got to ask a question about the guy haven't you?

    Yes, me.

Oh I get Matty is the better finisher, but Iggy has a better all round game and can play up top on his own. Far more versatile. And doesn't sulk.

When you say better all round game, you mean the scoop? Cos apart from tap ins thay is literally the only other thing Ighalo does.

Vydra needs to play with Deeney to be effective, he's carp up front on his own as proven at reading and wet brom, a complete waste of space

Iggy can play #9 or #10 = he's far more versatile = he has a better all round game

If a striker can score 20 Prem goals in a season he can lean against a goalpost with a ciggy on the go the rest of the time. Job done.

When Vydra can do things like this (shielding a ball...heading a football with his head...outmuscle defenders....) I'll accept he has a better all round game

IMO we should keep MV. With OI ,TD and Success we will not be light of options up top. Last season we were v lucky regarding lack of injuries/ suspensions to these two.

To say Ighalo has a better all round game than Vydra is completely laughable.

And Vydra can play as a number 10. He did so for a number of games in our promotion season and did very well.

Yes he did you're right..... aaaaannnnndd I don't recall ever saying he couldn't play #10 :dismay:

Please enlighten me to the dozens of games where he was a successful #9 in a 4411 or say a 4231 at any point in his career playing anywhere for anyone....?

There is little logic in my opinion, but I just prefer Vydra.

If he doesnt make it, with us in the Prem, it'll be a massive disappointment to me as I honestly think (thought) he is good enough.

I don't see why we can't keep Vydra and Ighalo. The big idiotic contract aside what does Suarez bring compared to Behrami/Capoue/Doucoure. We don't need him. I think we should just write off the Suarez investment rather than ditching a genuine goal threat.

Luckily it looks like we're playing with two strikers this season making that pretty irrelevant for the time being.
