Apparently around 30 dead and a hostage situation of 60-100 is taking place. Attacks carried out close to the France v Germany match

Awful, if true. One of my favourite cities in the world, full of such lovely people. Love and thoughts with everyone.

Absolutely horrible. Could hear explosions from the TV broadcast of the game.

42 dead according to the live BBC feed now, although they are just quoting a french news source. I imagine security will be at an all time high next summer for the Euros

Hearing 60 dead now, and up to 100 hostages. My thoughts are with them.

One of my best mates was in Place de Republique this evening, he's in lock-down at the moment in a nearby building. Apparently he heard gunfire. I was meant to go over to visit him and other friends today. I pray they're all okay.

Let's hope the French authorities end the situation as soon as possible and fatalities are minimised.

Thoughts also with those killed in this other attack today, which has had nowhere near as much publicity which is very sad.

This is a co-ordinated terror attack - probably one of the largest Europe has ever seen. Likely to be done by Those living in France already

    This world has gone mad...

Sounds horrendous and I can't help but thinking the news thats coming out of Paris is only going to get worse. Just read a report from a witness at the gig on the Guardian and it is absolutely harrowing.

ISIS opportunistically might claim that it is but it's too quick for something of this magnitude

Horrible and terrifying in equal measure praying for them all.

Seen that 'Jihadi John' has been mentioned already, ;et's not feed the agenda and get into wider debate, just remember lives have been lost.

    158 dead now

Only a matter of time before similar happens here. This is a stark reminder of the dangers Europe faces right now, time to close all borders

I'm not meaning to be morbid, but i've got a horrible feeling that the events that unfolded tonight were supposed to go off BEFORE the France vs Germany game rather than during it. Which means the casualty list is smaller than it should have been. At least we can count on small mercys.

It's at least 120 according to the BBC. A further 200 injured.

I always wonder what ordinary peace-loving Muslims must be thinking at times like this. The closest I can imagine is if it was somehow extremist Watford fans that were responsible.

Utterly sickened, but at the same time on the defensive and awaiting the backlash from people only too willing to bunch every Watford fan together?

    Truly upsetting.

Religion is a mental illness. Some charlatan claims God has spoken to them or claims to be the son of God in times of superstition and people are still falling for it to disastrous effect.

Unfortunately there are countless reasons for people to want to kill each other. Religion is just one.

    Absolutely sickening.

Disgusting acts of horrendous cowardice by degenerate arseholes who have convinced themselves that what they're doing is right.

A lot of debate on social media as to whether the England vs France friendly should be called off..
In the circumstances i suspect it will be

I'd be more concerned about Euro 2016 than a meaningless friendly.

I disagree. If a couple of hundred Watford fans were dragging the name of the club through the mire this much I would hope, expect actually, every other Watford fan to out them, hunt them down and sort them out.

What's more, wfc are a small community of around 20000 people. Easy to find a group of 100 assholes. Bit harder when your group numbers a billion.

The whole mentality of these people is insane. Barbaric, mediaeval, hate filled, twisted, delusional *****.

If the percentages are the same it should make no difference. 20,000 looking for 100 or a billion looking for 5 million.

It's an arbitrary figure of course. It's the same 1/2% as the hypothetical 100 Watford fans.

These people are not muslims. Using religion as a motive to enact sick atrocities.

    Absolutely appalling what has happened.

Most refugees & asylum seekers are trying to escape precisely the sort of people who perpetrated the Paris attack. They're not bringing it with them, they're trying to escape it.
