just got away with giving away another pen too. How bad does a Muff keeper have to be to get dropped?

Re Villa, shame they didn't give Sherwood another couple of weeks as they will probably be a different proposition when we play them trying to impress their new manager!

Not sure it'll matter much; Villa's squad is awful. Silk purse sow's ear etc.

Their form might improve slightly, but I doubt they're going to stay up no matter who comes in.

From a reporter for the Independent at the Muff game...

Absolute banter here as the PA system accidentally broadcasts a conversation upstairs. "Men against boys". "****ing unbelievable".

It's a bit too early in the season to start getting too cocky about it, but I must admit seeing Bournemouth on the end of a tonking is very satisfying and only serves to enhance my mood already buoyed from yesterday's performance/result.

On that note, i would like to point out that Bournemouth scored more, conceded less and lost less than us last year and are essentially trying to play the same brand of football in the premier league. Meanwhile Watford, or seemingly, QSF, has realised that reducing the number of chances that the opposition creates is of paramount importance in this league, as the strikers are much more clinical. This generally means being ridiculously organised, ensuring you defend both as a team and from the front, pressing hard, and reducing space for the opposition to play. Naturally this reduces your ability to get men forward, which in turn means less chances created.

I would encourage all those QSF doubters out there to take a look at how things are working out for Bournemouth. Fair play you may want entertainment, but premier league status comes before that IMO, and I'd personally rather see a 0-0 than us get tonked 1-5.

I look at the championship table these days and shudder with the thought of trying to get out of that league again.

I feel sorry for Muff..injuries to their key players will be their undoing. How quickly we forget that position now we can pull in an instant replacement for any injury

Feel less sorry for Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland who have all been badly managed
Norwich just relied on their squad which may prove to be their undoing
Based on games we've played I can see an outside chance that West Brom or Stoke may dabble with relegation worries but doubt it

The one thing I'm adamant about is that there are more than 3 teams currently worse than us in this division

I have no sympathy for any of them.

I did feel sorry for Muff, but then remembered what a pain in the arse they were last year, and I laugh enthusiastically at their plight .

Seriously...imagine having Boruc, Cook, Gosling and Murray as the spine of your team instead of Gomes, Cathcart, Capoue and Deeney.

Bournemouth have lost their best striker, their two main signings for the Premier League campaign and last seasons player of the year. Their start was pretty decent and they were at least frightening the teams they played.

How would we be doing if we lost Deeney, Ighalo, Nyom, Capoue? When you lose a striker (especially one with pace), you need to push the rest of your team forward to compensate.

If they weren't so lucky last year, I'd almost feel sorry for them.

Sunderland, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Villa and Norwich all make me feel confident of staying in this league.

Actually Villa had Benteke & Delph sold last summer, 2 players that would keep them up. Ashley at Newcastle has continued to sell when he can whilst keeping enough for them to stay up.
When the big boys come calling for your best players it is hard to keep hold of them and next summer we may have a few players targeted and that might end up with us left weakened.
Long way ahead for that senario but I hope that doesn't happen to us

If we stay up we'll be signing better players than the ones we signed this summer....

They've also started getting smashed regularly, which has little to do with the injuries they've sustained.

Prem teams underestimated them initially (notable West Ham) and weren't expecting a gung-ho screw-defence style of play. Now that the Muff game plan has been sussed out by Prem managers, Muff are getting undone. Even against West Ham, Muff looked very vulnerable.

I don't doubt they'd do better with the injured players, but Wilson being in the team would have zero impact on the shambolic defensive displays they're putting out with basicall the same defensive unit as last year. Teams are passing around their out-manned midfield entirely and running through Muff at will, all because of the insistence on playing with a 2 man front line.

With the megabucks TV money it doesn't really work like that anymore. Lesser Prem clubs can now keep their best players if they really have a mind to. Gino won't be selling anyone unless we have someone better to replace him.

  22. I don't think its excusable, what's Villa's revenue over the last 10-12 years? Probably well on the way to a £ billion.

Yes the big boys come calling and take your best players but it's gross mismanagement not to have a succession plan.

Just look at Southampton. Players come, players go, but the team remains competitive. That's exactly what Pozzo wants to do.

It isn't particularly difficult nor expensive to invest in that kind of preparation. It's criminal not to.

Well some fans would prefer to be entertained, so signing Boruc after today's performance would certainly be entertaining.

They are being caught out more because they have to push forward more to get players around Murray. Towards the beginning of the season, they were much deeper and slotted the balls into the channel for Wilson to chase.

They are making more silly mistakes at the back now, but I'd say that A) their defence last year wasn't good enough for the EPL and B) this is down to confidence which, especially with Boruc, is imploding by the second.

Bournemouth will definitely go all out to try and buy Perotti this January. Whether they will or not is another thing but they do have a fair bit of moolah (enough to buy Perotti anyways).

Plus teams are more keen to really attack them without fear of Stanislas, King and Murray doing much damage.

He already doesn't want to come to England. I'm not sure why he'd change his mind & go to a poor, already-doomed side. I think they're more likely to try to sign some quality from elsewhere (good luck with that)

  29. hornetgags

I just can't see him going to them if they're in the relegation zone. They can have Dyer.

  30. nisman94

When did he say that? I thought it was just him not wanting to leave Genoa. Either way you and hornetgags (and probably others) make valid points, I've just stopped becoming surprised when a relatively decent player moves to a meh club without any club links for one reason only- money. Case in point, Wijnaldum to Newcastle and Lens to Sunderland

  31. Nnnn

Well, not England specifically but he's said he doesn't want to leave Italy. Muff have already made an offer way over his value & they've been turned down by both player & club.

Muff definitely need a large injection of quality but I seriously doubt that will be Perotti.

It's too soon to write them off after batterings against Champions League hopefuls, but they just looked like a general mess today. Their squad is thin and hurt by injuries, their keeper is having a nightmare and all in all they are just low on confidence.

Man for man they aren't good enough, meaning the tactical battle is mostly irrelevant.

Ive been a critic of the team this season a fair bit,but 7 points off the relegation zone before were even out October is pretty ****ing impressive tbh.

But we haven't just magically made a 7 point gap, we've been consistently solid for a newly promoted team. So why have you been so critical?
