Would have started Sterling over Welbeck if he's fit, but aside from that, Roy has picked what I'd consider his strongest available side. Hopefully we'll play with a bit of tempo and make the most of the pace we have in forward areas.

    Uruguay 1-0 NI

Just finished watching it, Uruguay are a shadow of the team they were 4 years ago, although to be fair they didn't have Suarez. Didn't create much and apart from a moment of magic didn't really look like scoring. Their defence is terrible under pressure, would be very surprised if you don't beat them.

We were missing half our team and had players from Fleetwood and Accrington Stanley in our squad, and still didn't play that well, but still gave them a match.

I would take all the results in friendlies with a huge pinch of salt. They are not truly competitive as players going to the tournament wish to avoid injury and are playing within themselves, have had a small break and the opposition have been instructed to not go for them. The quality of the opposition should be factored in.

Peru and Bolivia (particularly away from home) have been by far and away the poorest teams in CONMEBOL for several years and the Peruvian team yesterday barring players like Cruzado and Rodriguez were very inexperienced.

I think that Deza should be a player we ought to go for though..... There is still a lack of ease on the ball from England, lack of movement at times around the ball carrier and Sturridge should be the centre forward with Rooney on the bench. Woy would be well advised if he is playing countering football to stick Sterling on the right flank and the Ox down the left. But he won't do it.

Johnson and Gerrard especially if gets exposed on the break in front of the defence are defensive liabilities and Jagielka is still rusty. Uruguay will be a whole different animal when the tournament starts and will have played an obdurate Costa Rican side in the process. One can read things in the general play as with Johnson and Gerrard. South Korea and Iran for example have been shambolic in their matches.

Great comeback for Chile, Sanchez with 3 assists too so looks like he is carrying his Barcelona form with him.

Dzeko with a couple of goals too

A lot of less than convincing performances last night...

Portugal and Greece was goalless, although Ronaldo wasn't involved.

Croatia, Netherlands, Italy and Russia also didn't perform particularly well, as did Colombia who were held to a draw by a second string Senegal side who had 10 men for 20 minutes.

Algeria and Mexico had the best results, Mexico beating fellow world cup team Ecuador

Some injuries have been picked up in recent friendlies. Costa Rica who were already missing Bryan Oviedo have been hit by the loss of their star striker in addition to Bryan Ruiz, the vastly experienced Alvaro Saborio to a broken metatarsal.

Ricardo Montolivo suffered a broken leg. However Giuseppi Rossi managed to play seventy odd minutes to counterbalance the loss.

The worst and most idiotic challenge in the friendlies was from Luis Montes. His opening goal against Ecuador was a cracker. No doubt high on adrenaline moments later he lunged into a needless challenge on Segundo Castillo and fractured his tibia. He deservedly is out making Miguel Herrera's midfield even weaker but at the same time taking out another professional from a trip to Brazil. Castillo suffered knee ligament damage as a result of the attack and will no doubt be furious within.

Check the group thread Norn. :) Prandelli wants everyone at peak fitness bearing in mind last years Confederations Cup. Maggio was left out over fitness concerns and Romulo gave up his place feeling he was not fully fit.

Sterling you silly, silly boy. Totally reckless, and no need whatsoever. It's a friendly FFS, you could have injured yourself or Valencia with a moronic challenge like that.

I agree with El D, to make a challenge like that the week before the WC is just stupid.

Poor performance from England but I suppose it was 2nd string. Barkley looked good

I was out so missed the match. Thoughts? Mr HH's view was that 'the Ox' did well but that Wilshere and Milner were very poor. He was also in Legs' camp on the Valencia/Sterling incident (but, then again, he is a Liverpool fan).

Of course it was a sending off, the way Valencia reacted (which was disgraceful, he must have thought Sterling wanted to do damas) doesn't make Sterling's challenge any better. Didn't really get the ball, went over it, high, two footed.

Gutted for Oxlade-Chamberlain if that's his World Cup over. He's so good at picking up the ball, running at people and making things happen, such a talent.

He put a foot in, got a kick in the back of the leg, Ecuadorian player tripped over him in to the back of Ox and then Ox fell backwards over him. He's now having a knee scan and they think it's ligament damage. Looked like nothing but has obviously hurt him.
