Gutted to see him go, but I think it might be for the best, thank you Gianfranco!

Top, top bloke. Very sad to see him go. Dark day for the football club. His letter to us sums the man up.

    Zola is a legend.

I wonder how many times in the future he will look back to that fateful final day of the league season...

Hull messing it up at the death..

Us 10 minutes behind, 1-1...piling forward...one goal should do it...

    Just ONE goal..

just one...in a season where we'd already scored nearly 100....

So close....and yet now so far :(

Hopefully someone who can unite the squad and deal with one or two people who think they are better than they are.

    Dark day in what way?

Top top guy, lovely man, upset to see him go, never wanted to see a manager succeed more than I did him but I think not winning in 9 games is darker days than losing a guy who was genuinely lovely but failing at his job.

Strange day, gutted yet relieved it ended this way rather than him being sacked. I bl**dy hate nice guys in football, it never seems to end well for them.

Cheers for last season Zola, onwards and upwards now.

Contract expired at end of the year anyway.

I agree, am I alone here in being seriously ****ed off that the Zola out brigade have got their way?

    What now Warnock or Holloway?

I just cant get my head round this, what a pile of crap this really is!

I really don't get it? I love 99% of your posts mate but Zola resigning says it all really? He didn't read our comments on here and leave or listen to boo's and leave? It's quite clear he knew he didn't know the answers or solution?

Exactly the right decision and confirms what we all already knew that he is a really really nice bloke.

Time to move on and get behind the next man

What a legend. Classy bloke, not many of them left in football. Wish him all the best, and I'll NEVER forget last season. He really did some special things at our club, just such a shame he's not the man to take us forward.

Very classy way of doing things. I only wish him the very best for the future, he's a lovely bloke and last season was the most enjoyable of my life time and I'll always consider that moment against Leicester one of the best of my life.

That said, he's made the right decision for himself and for the club and I think both parties will be better off for it going forward.

    Pretty much agree with this.

Real nice guy, but it seriously didn't look like we were going to improve this terrible form. I would have thought that the Pozzo's wouldn't have sacked him as well but his contract is up at the end of the season so unless he magically turned it around, you'd think that they wouldn't have renewed it anyway.

The Leicester PO semi-final match last season was one of my best experiences. He's helped our club a huge amount together with the Pozzo family, hopefully they can now recruit a long term replacement (back staff also) to build the club up to the estimations that they've previously spoken of.

    Onwards and upwards.

Seriously though, presumably your happy that he has gone so what now?

Who would you like to see take the vacant managers position?

WHY ARE PEOPLE ACTING LIKE MANAGERS DON'T EXIST?

Clarke, Guidolin, Di Matteo, Karl Robinson, Hoddle, Malky and Solskjaer are just some of the options out there. Plus lots of managers we don't know about out there in Italian, Spanish, Dutch league.

I'm sorry, but this had to happen as nice guys don't make the best managers!

By the way I am trying to change my signature, but there is a technical hitch which I am hoping "The Meister" will sort out for me.

  22. HELGO

Very sad he resigned and back to square one we go.

There doesn't appear to be any worthy British candidates out there that we could afford, so it probably means another foreign manager with little Championship knowledge.

Hopefully we can get rid of some of the crap players who have caused his downfall. MCGugan, Fabbrini, Belkalem, MCeachran, should all hang their heads in shame for their pitiful performances this season. They certainly didn't help GFZ cause.

    Gutted.

Driven out by arrogant idiots who think the grass will be greener. Big mistake letting talent like him go ... brace yourselves for mediocrity boys.

Mediocrity would be a step up from 5 home defeats on the bounce and no wins in 9.

    Ultimately a glorious failure.

Let's get the right man in who can give this team the kick up the ar5e they need.

To all those who are upset. I understand but there are more important things in life.

Bring on Ipswich and three points at last.

  27. Harrow Orn

    Harrow Orn Squad Player

Supported him 100% and would have still liked to see him given more of a chance. Nonetheless, can fully understand the decision to get rid of him (I think it's a case of him leaving before he got sacked).

Would probably have got more time if the January transfer window wasn't so close - I guess with it being around the corner it's the perfect chance for a new manager to come in and bring in some of his own players whilst getting rid of the ones who haven't been performing.

Thanks Zola for last season - one of my favourite seasons as a Watford supporter. The mutual respect shown between him and the fans - straight after he leaves shows how his time at Watford overall can be deemed a successful one.

    Who next though...

I'd rather have just survived in this division with Zola re-shaping a footballing squad than go back to hoofball.

  29. NathWFC

And your assumption that we're going to go back to "hoofball" is based on what exactly?

I blame George Thorne. He's clearly cursed.

  31. wfcSinatra

Why would we go back to hoofball? Look at the quality and type of players we have?

Plus if you were at Sheff Wed last week it was puntball, numerous punts to Deeney leading to nothing.

It was a perfectly reasonable and polite question so why the CAPS LOCK? :]]

and thanks for pointing out that there are other football managers out there, I hadn't worked that one out :sign15:

Gutted. What a man to admit he was out of ideas when he had no more to give. Personally I feel he has been undone by a terrible transfer window, and deserved January.

The club is in a much better place because of him and the Pozzos, and what a wonderful year he gave us last year, with the best football we have ever played. We will hopefully adapt, and grow, but I am sure we will look back in five years time and remember it all started from this little man. I know the article says it, but it quite obvious that he is always welcome back at the Vic.

  34. wfcSinatra

    wfcSinatra Predictor Choker 14/15

We're in a better place than we were when he joined regardless. Made profit, better players, better future.

Oh yeah McGugan and his 6 goals really cost GFZ his job. If McGugan didn't his penalty score against Wigan it would've been 6 home games without a win and 5 without a goal

Reading between the lines of the clubs official statement makes me think the door has been left very clearly open for him to return, maybe purely in a coaching role? Would dearly love to see him back at the club smiling and enjoying life.

Can't believe he is being linked with WBA. The guy is hurting and I think we are all hurting for him too.
