Ok....a bit fanciful, but he is looking for one more challenge. Would anyone be pleased if he came to the Vic? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20405547
It is true and clearly Watford wouldn't be offering that. He wouldn't be doing it for the money though, as he would only get the going rate, and probably a percentage for selling merchandise with his name on. He would do it for one last challenge and for that reason only. But a lot of things would need to align first. Zola may not want the Beckham roadshow in town, and Becks may not fancy the idea. But commercially, it would be a huge success I would think. I doubt he'd want to play that far down though and will probably end up in Australia or something like that. But I've always had a sneaky feeling about him playing for Watford one day because of his connections with EJ. I seem to remember Boothryod putting in a cheeky bid for him when we last got promoted, but nothing of course came of it.
If both parties could ever agree terms it would be a massive coup. I'm not saying it's going to happen but we could let him do his coaching badges here.
I don't think this is the most ridiculous idea. It's assumed that the Pozzos want to make a "marquee" signing, although there view on this may have changed having seen the progress we're making. He has a house locally and I'm sure he's still a fine player. If we could agree terms it would be a huge coup but I'd imagine a middling Premier League club will sign him just for revenue and to generate some excitement around their club. The only negative I could see of having him would be the guaranteed "Beckham roadshow" effect where we would suddenly be one of the most talked about clubs in the country, meaning we certainly wouldn't be able to go under the radar any longer. Would this affect performances?
there was a time not so long ago, where there was some serious talk about Beckham coming into joint ownership of the club. i for one would love to see beckham line up in a watford shirt, but i think this is probably only ever going to be a dream rather than a reality.
I would love this just to be able to say that we had David Beckham in our team. Even if he was sh*te for us.
We could take him until the end of this season and then he can go for his final port of call. It may be enough to get more bums on seats, a push towards promotion and the new stand.
I can't ever see it happening, but if it did I you could have Becks and Cassetti fighting over the right wing-back role.
I would literally cream myself is this happens! It would be awesome but its unlikely unless he wants to take a massive pay cut (which he could) Does he still have a gaff in Herts?
As HB1 said, Aidy put in a bid when we were last promoted. I'd love it to happen but it's looking as though he'll end up in Oz.
It won't happen. Same reason the likes of Del Piero would never come to us... but Beckham even less likely.
I've heard it's just a matter of dotting the T's and crossing the I's... It's prooving difficult apparently.
I can't see Beckham in management so doing his coaching badges? Team ownership on the other hand? He should buy a non-league club from his youth and get them up to the Premiership.
Beckham has previously said he doesn't want to go into management, so he would never do coaching badges here. I really, really don't think he will come here anyway though.
