Hose pipe ban and drought but at the same time flood warnings? Something is very wrong there.

Yeah, you might try to explain it with "facts" and "science" (so called) but it doesnt take away from the fact that it is just wrong

I think we're very lucky to have so much rain during this drought.

Something's got to make up for the relatively 'dry' winter. We're paying for it now, but the next few months should be hotter, or at least, more 'suitable drought conditions'.

I dont understand why the water companies [Companies paid to store and supply water] dont try to capture and store some of this drought rain we are having and supply it via a system of pipes that arent leaking? Thereby fulfilling their mission as Water Companies.

Maybe a big bowl to catch the rain or something? I dont know, Im not a water technician.

Maybe I will write them a letter and suggest they do this instead of spending money on PR, marketing, consultants, executive pay and giving quite so much to shareholders. [I know that water probably needs a lot of marketing and PR - it is not as if it is a basic essential for life or anything like that - but still maybe a little more money for a big bowl or large plastic tube]

It's not the right kind of rain.

They already do this, but unfortunately it disappears out of their leaky pipes.

Because thanks to the wonders of privatisation there is no incentive to bother. Brilliant.

This. We can't use a hosepipe while they lose millions of gallons a day in leaks.

There is only one reason why the average person should need to use a hosepipe

To gas themselves on their car's exhaust fumes

Any volunteers, or shall I nominate someone?

There is also too many people in the country, using too much water. Generations of poor immigration policy has seen to that. Reap what you sow, and you can see what a poor crop we are yielding.....without enough water.

You're a very funny man Thomas Malthus, who has also been shown to be wrong on so many occasions, but anyway thanks for the laugh

It doesn't take much of a scientific brain to recognise that heavy rain is falling now, and the hosepipe ban was a reaction to the lack of rain in the no so distant past.

The rain we've been having is also a drop in the ocean compared to what we need to come out of the drought.

Also, the ground at the moment won't soak up the rain, so I'm told by a Veolia official.

The hosepipe ban is stupid anyway, domestic water use is something like 8% of all water use in this country!

There are too many people in the south east and the south rather than in the country.

But lets build millions more houses here anyway. Brilliant stuff again. No investment in infrastructure, the flogging of every available piece of land to Barratts and absolutely no investment or incentives to encourage economic activity up north where there is plenty of space, plenty of houses and plenty of water. Evidently the plan is to not modernise our infrastructure while at the same time encourage people to move to an area where where rainfall is at an all time low.

Agreed, (not the gassing thing), and that one thing is to fill the kids pool on the single hot weekend we have every June. Otherwise there is absolutely no reason for hose pipes in the garden.

I need a hosepipe for my fruit and veg. Others will need for their grass. And to wash my car.

Environmentalists can do one, you can go and live on your own hippy, tree hugging commune with Hitler and Stalin, Ive paid for the water ill use it how I want

Does anyone have those environmentally friendly water tub things that you attach to your gutter? All the rainwater flows down the gutter and into the tub, and there's a little tap at the bottom for you to fill up your buckets for gardening, washing your car etc. Not sure how much they cost but we don't use any tap water outside at home. We have a few of these and they cater for all outdoor needs.

If you're washing your car properly, you use two buckets.

I have 3 connecting ones, and a submersible pump that's connected to 2 filters so this enables me to wash my car with water that is cleaner (in terms of color, chloride) than that which comes out of our taps, so i can water my bedding plants, lawn and also wash my car.

Well it's just if you only use one bucket, you're going to be using the sponge on the car, getting dirt on it, and then mixing that with your clean soapy water.

Bucket 1 = hot water with decent shampoo (Autoglym, Meguiars or similar)
Bucket 2 = just water from your butt (lol) or tap to put the sponge in and get dirty **** off

Have I mentioned that I dont believe in the Environment and find mentions of it sickening. It is just another excuse by the Rich Elite to convince us we need to live in poverty and use fewer of the resources they want for themselves.

For me it’s the pure, authoritarian, paternalistic, misanthropy that the middle class guardian readers spouse, that I dislike about the environmentalist movement.
