The Championship next season....

I fear there will be great expectations to bounce straight back (probably lead by Aidy) but really we must wait to see what players will go and come in before raising hopes too much...we need a new goalie, central defender, left and winger anyway with Foster Young and Powell not going to be at the Vic next season.

We have a good young squad who do lack experience and need some help around them as Mahon gives them.

Whatever happens we must keep Shittu,Bouazza and DeMerit who MAY attract interest in the summer.

Maybe Francis will wake up and perform as well?

Providing we invest in some quality then we have a good chance. We will require a mix of youth and players in their mid to late 20s who have some experience.

Be interesting to see what sort of press we get if the team does well again (and even beat some Premiership sides in a cup) after the pretty negative stuff this season due to our league position.

Probably just say how poor it proves the Championship is etc...or "Watford are the new yo-yo team"

'Francis won't want to play Championship' From what I've senn he don't want to play football at all.

    Again, correct!

He's a pathetic waste of space! No wonder Wigan's fans were laughing at us for taking him off them! Sadly as he was Aidy's signing he feels he needs to play him!

We sell Springy and keep Francis...figure that out?!

Odd decision I know, but hey, I don't make the decisions. I just hope that when we go down, Francis becomes useful. I don't know why, perhaps I am deluding myself, but I just hope that's all.

Remember also Marlon to come back if Her Majesty lets him. Clarke Carlisle - who knows?

I also think that if Aidy does not spend during this window he should have a Summer War Chest of £15mill - £20 mill.

As Chewy says we need to get the right mix of players, positions, experience and age - and this has to be given time to blend. My forecast would be a slow start but fighting in the top 6 in second half of season.

Goalie - no, Lee is up to the task for sure. Winger - yes, a right wing to give Smith some competition - but who know, maybe Jarrett will come good?

Defenders - central, well hopefully Carlisle can contribute again. Left back - is that where Parkes plays? Otherwise we need someone in.

I think we can compete for a promotion next season. But it won't be a certainty. But as hasbeen argued here numerous times, we have so many very talented players at the club that I think the future looks very bright indeed. If we go down all I can say is: We'll be back.

A much more radical overhaul will be needed. Our current form suggests that we would really struggle with the personnel we have. We need to replace at least 4 or 5 of the current squad, Francis, Powell, Henderson for not being good enough, Foster and Mackay, because they can't carry on.

We need to seriously consider if the likes of Macca and Doyley can do it again. We need to ditch a heap of fringe players like Blizzard, Jarrett, Gill, Kamara and Seanla etc, unless they make a bit of progress quick.

Priskin, Marriapa, Bangura etc still need more time and can't be completely relied on. Parkes, Robinson and Campana may be future stars, but we'll need experience.

It only leaves a smallish core, around 8 or so who are definitely good enough to mount a championship challenge and who won't have motivation issues. We don't even know if Marlon is going to be a force yet. That's well short.

To mount a challenge we will need about 7-8 good new, very hungry players.

We can't completely give up now, so we need to get a loan or two in to put in a decent show, but we then need to be ready to spend big on the best of the lower 3 divisions.

I am definitely not expecting to go back up next season. I think we will do well to finish mid table while we rebuild the squad and consolidate.

Well I suggest you have a look at the squads of strugglers like Palace, Ipswich and Norwich, let alone the contenders and come back again when you've had time to sober up.

    Record points.

Not good enough this season for premiership. Easily good enough for Championship next season where winning will keep all the moaning, negative Malaka's quiet if not happy.

How one can say we are not good enough for the championship top six with this squad is beyond me.

Will be a very enjoyable season in the fizzy pop - and the experience and lessons gained this season will bode well for 08/09 where we will not be in the same position as this time round.

I can't even remember the relegations ( than god for old age and loss of memory - what years since 70/71 were we relegated?

losing to Walsall last game of season was the worstest day - relegated to old div 4 and the introduction of Hartlepool, Southport, Darlington and Workington to my life' travelling.:)

    lol so true.

For some reason alot of people think going down is a good thing which is beyond me, relegation is a real kick in the teeth and it will take a huge effort to come straight back up.
