https://www.watfordfc.com/news/official-hornets-sign-troost-ekong-youngster-toure Closing the Transfer List thread as it was going very off topic and no longer required as he is now our player.
Just watched the video of him on the official club site and he sounds like a local lad, and by all accounts he is in a lot of ways, having gone to a boarding school in the area, and also been on the books of both Fulham and Spuds in his younger years. He also owns a house in Hertfordshire where his partner has been living for some time whilst he has been playing abroad. Therefore it's almost like coming home for him, and he sounds glad to be here, so hopefully he will be with us for some time to come, that is as long as he proves as good as he seems on paper of course.
Good interview, didn't realise how 'English' he was! Comes across really well in that, seems like a really great addition to the club on and off the pitch
I know it’s only a short interview where a player can put on a performance but you can see why he’s been described as a good character to have in the dressing room. Seems grounded, focused, ambitious and respectful.
And he skirted round the input he'd received from Behrami, Zeegelaar and Okaka like a seasoned media pro!
He's one of our own, he's one of our owwwwn, that boy Troost-Ekong, he's one of our own. I mean, I'm not actually from the area myself, so maybe it's 'he's one of your own' but you get the point. Welcome William, my wife thinks your a good looking lad by the way, so it's just wins all over the place.
He speaks well, looks keen and pleased to be here, looks fit and ready to play (unlike certain other Watford players I'm not going to mention). Dawson is meh but I'm pretty happy with our CBs for this season.
What a lovely bloke. Was looking to see if he was going to be a better passer than the rest of our defence (yeah, yeah, hard not to be) and stumbled across this video. You need leaders to get out of this division, looks like we've found one that will set high standards. None of other centre backs are organisers so this is a really positive signing.
Really pleased with this, never seen him play but 60+ games in Serie A is very encouraging, they tend to know a centre back in those parts, plenty of international caps for a decent team as well so got quite high hopes for him. Also didn't realise quite how 'English' he is, not going to be any periods of adjustment required here. Welcome aboard.
If history tells us anything he will make a 10 minute cameo as a sub and then we will hear nothing about him until we loan him to some unknown Belgian team.
Obviously needed Wilmot and Cathcart next to him! Also for a ***** defence most of our centre backs seemed to have been called up for international duty! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Utter dross last night and am yet to see anything that makes him better than the other CB's at our disposal.
I think that's an unfair assessment. He's a decent player but does have blind spots in his game. I've noticed he does get pulled out of position occasionally or loses the flight of the ball. The way Toney got past him for his yellow card was a case in point. The second goal conceded against Coventry was down to his poor positioning again. But over all I think he's been decent, committed and reliable. He does have flaws to his game for sure, but I think he does more good than bad. Wilmot is young, but makes a lot of mistakes and so does Kabasele. He plays 3 or 4 good games, then throws in a stinker. Cathcart is probably our most consistent performer, but he's aging and can't go on forever. Because of his leadership qualities, I would place WTE second behind Cathcart in our current crop of central defenders. Certainly is a first team starter for me.
Udinese reserve, what did you expect ? Ditto Serialta. Both just making up the numbers without a cost to the Pozzos.
I don't disagree - my point is that he's not a marked improvement at all. That's not to say he is worse...just no better. And I absolutely stand by him being dreadful last night.
I agree he's a similar level to Cathcart and Kabasele, but he was still a useful signing - without him we'd be having to start Wilmot in a back four.
