Is anyone singing it at the start? That’s clearly the idea and it seems more and more teams have a song they belt out just before kick off. I’m also a fan and would love it to catch on. But still love a bit of Depeche Mode with a victory!
Give it time in my opinion. The song works, and now the fan base feel more connected with the team it will help
I understand why they use it, but I don't think it works. It's not really a hype song or one that gets the blood pumping at least a little. I'd rather Z Cars.
Maybe when we get heavily beaten at home they could play "I guess that's why they call it the blues..." Maybe the reason we changed it was due to Everton (surprise) also using Z Cars? Not really sure who had it first but I agree Z Cars feels more 'lets go boys!' over Your Song, which is a good record but doesn't really suit a football match. Fits as well as "Stepping into Christmas" would, but that's just my view.
It's about time we had a real club song, and in the absence of anything better, I think "Your Song" is a decent choice!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Joy Division belting out shortly after the final whistle yesterday. The club should play the entire Closer album before the game next week.
Step. Re Z Cars: both clubs have used that tune for several decades so I don’t see why it would suddenly become an issue now.
The big sign it's not taken root or really working was the Coventry game. PA system down completely and the fans didn't sing it spontaneously, despite nearly a year of the club piping it out pre-kick off. I agree it had potential but I think it's a lame duck.
They need to cut it before the last line so the crowd can finish it without the music. Should end after Put down in words & let the fans sing How wonderful life is, while you're in the world.
Dreary shyte that needs fcking off pronto. None of Elton's songs are suitable. We all know this. We've known it for decades.
It doesn’t work. Never has and never will. If SEJ wasn’t bonded with the club the way he is we wouldn’t have thought twice about using it. Time to move folks.
Should go with A-rse-hole by Snuff, tongue in cheek and ultimately self-deprecating. Probably a bit for rude for a family club though.
IMHO it could be simply a song where the intro gets the crowd bouncing just before kick off rather than a slushy ballad which is just copy catting other clubs .
That was used in an old VHS I had called "Flying High". It was a review of the 00/01 season (first half of it). Showed every game of our 15 game unbeaten start. Nice bit with GT at the end talking about the late Sir Jack Petchy.
I think Elton has a few songs that should work on paper, but in reality the lyrics are a bit too wordy and complicated and nobody will bother to sing them.
I'm Still Standing would work. Fade it in at the guitar solo 1:54 gives everybody a cue to join in; then everybody will join the yeah yeah yeahs. Sorted.
I like Z Cars, but would prefer if there were some lyrics the fans could sing along with the tune. Any ideas?
You know PNE have "Gentry day" where they wear bowler hats? We could have Elton day where we all wear straw boaters and round glasses. 25th March EJ's birthday. Playing Plymouth at home on 29th.
I once created z cars on my Siemens C35 back in the early noughties. This was before the days of downloading tunes to your phone. I painstakingly did it 1 beep sound at a time and then played it to see if it was right. Then the next beep and played it. And this continued for each beep. Then if I got a beep wrong, I'd have to start again until I got all the beep sounds in the correct order. I think it took me about 2 hours. True story.
Here is a fairly decent clip of it being played as the team come out. Pretty hard to think of lyrics that would go along with it. It has a lot of heavy drums and the theme sounds a bit scottish to me. Maybe a song about Porteous? And no, I didn't pick that clip because of the sound bite of Emma Saunders...
I thought this was well known. It's originally a Liverpudlian sea shanty (hence the Everton connection):
Well known to others but not to myself. Interesting to find out something new about the song, thank you for the information Keighley.
The fans should just buzz like hornets instead, we can also wriggle our bums at the away fans to intimidate them.
What's wrong with the existing lyrics that all fans know and love; "Ner-ner-ner, ner-ner-ner-ner-ner, Ner ner-ner, ner-ner-ner-ner, Etc ?
How about ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua? Topical theme from one of the highest grossing movies of all time wouldn’t go amiss. We can all sing and dance and clap and then cheer on the boys! And if we lose a few games we can blame the curse of the song again rather than identify the early stages of a disastrous relegation season and then focus all our attention on getting a road renamed as the club goes down the pan.
