Fair enough, and accepting those differences, I do find it interesting to know whether fans are sad to lose a player or pleased to see him leave, what he's good at, what he's not so good at. I suppose it's a little like those statistical spiders, interesting to know how he has performed recently even though it may have limited relevance once on board with different coaching/tactics etc.
Goes both ways though doesn’t it. We didn’t like Dawson and his very next season he wins hammer of the year and plays a huge part in them getting to Europe. I love using data too but I do think radars and FBref pages say more about the team they’re in than the player themselves
Regarding last season, I’m not sure there is a big enough sample size of matches for Sheff United fans opinions to really sway us one way or the other. He started 4 league matches in a season where they conceded a record number of goals and went down. I have two friends who follow Sheff U but they could barely recall him, such was their turbulent campaign.
No idea sorry. I didn’t even know this one is supposedly close. To the best of my knowledge, the links to Carlos Martin and Rak-Sakyi are/were genuine but not easy deals to do at all (details of Martin deal done but he’s not yet available by his club, and there are personal reasons why Rak-Sakyi may be possible…but we are by no means the only club in the race who tick the boxes Palace and the player want.) And I believe both of these were genuine links as of a couple of weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing since in that regard so I genuinely have no idea what is active or not.
You don't have to read it. But regardless, there will still be bits of info which can be gleamed that may have at least some relevance - e.g. a player who fans typically consider a pace merchant probably won't suddenly turn in to a slouch overnight, and vice versa; a player who is said to be able to easily ping cross-field balls is probably more likely to be able to do so at their next club than someone who the fans observe barely looks comfortable playing short passes etc. Of course a player's form, positioning, confidence etc. can change a lot from one club to the next, but there will be certain parameters which you can get a vague sense of that may be less dramatically variable.
It could still be Jay Stansfield potentially. He played and scored against us for Fulham last week and Silva is now saying a loan move to the Champ might be possible. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/fulham-transfer-news-jay-stansfield-b1173913.html
Nowhere near good enough sadly. Of that list only really Lankshear ready to make an impact at Championship level. Maybe Donnell McNeilly. Hopefully it ends up being someone a little more established!
That's my impression too but there was some chat about a Man Utd forward on a Twitter Space the other day and can't see who else that would be.
Would be amazing if true. I remember watching him against us in the awful Birmingham team last season and thinking "why on earth can't we get a loan striker like that". I would imagine pretty much every Championship club are after him, though.
To be fair it was straight after a discussion on jay stansfield. That’s what had given me albeit false hope!
It’s funny clubs are giving us the ‘option to buy’ when the reality is that we won’t have the money to buy anyone next summer.
I know it's not fashionable to rate Morris and he certainly shouldn't be first choice wing back for the season, but I think he's decent enough as backup for Larouci. Sema is my main worry, it doesn't look like he has the legs for wing back anymore. He could potentially play as one of the 10s but unless he's wide on the left he's pretty much useless.
On paper, this actually looks like a good signing which fits a hole in our squad perfectly. Credit where it's due.
We seem to like a loan 'with an option to buy'. The parent club wont know how broke we are and I suppose we give it all the 'promotion is the aim' spiel and if we dont get promoted its an easy get out.
All our credit is due to Maquarie Bank. But yeah, he looks like a decent signing. Just hope he has more oomph about him than laid back Lewis.
In many ways that makes sense for us but it does mean we get a player who may feel like he doesn't really belong here and is just passing through.. I guess all players are, but more so given he's loaned to us rather than contracted....
