Well, the first tweet seems to be suggesting that they are confident he has, in fact, qualified either for a permit or special talent exemption, no?

To me in kind of suggests about 3 things. Playing for a half year in a country where he's comfortable and getting a locked down permit seems rational. In a relegation scrap his minutes were very likely to be limited anyway. Rather he plays.

I'm also not sure where he'll fit into Roy's system - Asprilla can basically play anywhere in attack but he's best as a #10 I feel, Roy typically plays 442 (although guess we dont know what system hes gonna use with us yet!) which instantly restricts him.

Luckily we don't have to worry about that for next season...or do we?

Let's be honest, we're never going to appoint a head coach that will suit the players we have!

Nor will we recruit players that suit the head coach.

£30m on a winger when our head coach didn't play wingers

We should have a defined style and retain players and coaches that fit it. Young players we buy who don't fit it can be sold on. We're still thrash too much.

Feel sorry for this kid, he's signed for a club that will be a mid-table Championship side in a couple of years and he doesn't even know it yet.

I cant see them jumping ship due to the investment they have made in the clubs infrastructure. They will only sell up when a very good offer is made. We are estabished as a top 25-30 club now. Dont forget that personally Gino is probably earning good money even if the clubs accounts arent where we would like them to be, a nice little earner.

A bit odd that we still don’t know what the plan is with him. Why hasn’t it been announced yet whether he is staying at Envigado or coming here?

There have been reports in Colombia that it’s been finalised.

There have been various reports in Colombia (including from a journalist named Alexis Rodriguez) that a work permit for Yaser Asprilla to play in the Premier League was granted last Thursday so that it will not be necessary for him to join another club in order to gain the necessary points to qualify for a work permit. The reports mention that Watford and Envigado are now in talks about whether Asprilla should stay with Envigado for the next six months or come directly to Watford. Yaser Asprilla would prefer to stay there for the next six months, but he is waiting for a decision from Watford.

Goal.com published an interesting article about Asprilla today, although the author (Daniel Edwards) seems unaware that Asprilla may now have been granted a work permit for the Premier League.

Will he want to play in the Championship?

We have been here before with great hopes who have then felt they’d rather move on elsewhere.

Who knows whether he will be prepared to play in the Championship? I think that the situation was probably a little different with some other great hopes because they spent many years out on loan while they were waiting to qualify for a work permit so that they felt no attachment to the club. Personally I hope that Yaser Asprilla arrives at Watford as quickly as possible.

Maybe we're waiting until he's finished the international break to officially announce it? Although I guess that only makes sense if he'd be coming straight here and we want to unveil him at The Vic with a fancy video or something.

The player wants to stay there for 6 months? We will almost certainly bring him over now then.

Straight into a relegation battle and given to a manager that won't use him. We'll get a few videos of him playing for the U23s looking completely bemused though, which will be nice.

At least he might get some taste of the PL, even if it's sitting on the bench or a few 5 minute cameos.

If he doesn't come over now he may not get that opportunity again for a while unless we're happy to quickly sell him.

Being in the championship at 18 is hardly a bad thing. How long would Joao Pedro have been stuck in our u23s or stuck on the bench by coaches who didnt have time to take a risk on him if we hadn't gone down? While our relegation was **** for the club, it was probably the making of him.

He is playing for a small club in Colombia, the championship is still a big step up in his career.

Probably better he spends 6 months playing regularly than stuck in our U23s watching on while this lot of usless ***** get relegated.

If he is as good as has been claimed I think we should bring him over, then hopefully he might give us a bit of a bounce and light up the PL.

Like JP then more or less. If he turns up and shows to be better than what we have got then he will be played but I dont think he will be ready yet.

I never really understand this argument of players wanting to play in the championship or not. Players that have signed for us in January should be well aware that we might be playing championship football next season, and have signed fairly long term deals in all cases. I think a season down there could benefit Asprilla anyways, as with João Pedro.

    Yes fair point.

As hornet fan rightly says the situation was different with Suarez and Estupinan.

Not beyond the realms of reality that he rocks up at London Colney next week and Hodgson just shrugs and asks why the f*ck we have brought in an 18yr old Colombian for a relegation fight but did zip all to fix the real lack of quality in the squad for the here and now.

Although I do wonder if Tufan being sent back is a sign that this lad is actually coming over now.

Can't see the point of rushing him over. A relegation fight is not what's needed for him atm. More minutes on the pitch in surroundings he knows are more beneficial for him.

If we could insert that clause to national teams then maybe Sierralta going off with Chile earlier in the season wouldn’t have met such resistance from Watford.
