Xisco Munoz

  1. I am too be convinced he has the talent and experience necessary, but equally its clear changing coach every 3-6 months hasn't worked long term for us either.

I'm pleased he will get the opportunity. I appreciate that we stayed up after ditching Jokanovic, but I think he deserved the chance.

I really didn't like the firesale of Vydra, Angella, Forestieri and co - and the lack of appreciation shown to Toszer, Munari and Connolly. Half of our signings didn't even play.

Having watched the celebration videos from Ben and WFC, Xisco is clearly loved by the players.

Do you have to go out and dig posts from the past to highlight when someone has made what might appear an error of judgement in hindsight. Does it make you feel all superior and smug ? Have you not made an error of judgement ? Some of the finest coaches and scouts in football have made errors some colossal in some instances over players by overrating their ceiling or vastly misjudging a player.

At the time Cook could well have been as an astute choice having done so well in troubled circumstances with Wigan. Hindsight is such a wonderful thing isn't it ? There are posters of this ilk who have made this forum a rather tiresome place at times digging up what another poster has posted months sometimes years ago to try and score points. It really is childishness of the worst sort.

It might well be or on the other hand he may surprise us all once again. We only need finish seventeenth for it to be deemed a success. The problem is would we attract a coach of a higher calibre supposedly given that the budget will not be enormous and let's face it we are not deemed to be a glamour club. Perhaps Giaretta will get Xisco some more technical analysts and a wise head to learn from and shoulder to lean on while he develops himself.

What have you to be feeling wrong about Bunny ? At the time Cook could well have been seen as a safe option. I was more than willing to give Xisco a chance but most people on looking at his coaching credentials even compared to Ivic would have been wondering what an earth are we doing. And for a while it looked like it might well have been an almighty mistake.

I love the man. Has the Watford DNA in him and has created a fabulous spirit within the club and appreciates the roles of everyone a bit like GT. I hope he is a roaring success and by that mere survival in the PL.

Do you have to go to such lengths to try and chastise someone for making a post which was completely relevant to the topic being discussed and probably took no more time to type than your diatribe? Does it make you feel superior and smug to try and claim that you are above trying to demonstrate that your opinion on a certain issue is as or more valid than those or other posters? Does it make you feel less childish to pretend that you are the arbiter of all that is good and virtuous and thus are fully deserving of wielding the naughty stick and trying to claim that your value system is superior to that of others, and therefore when you shake your head and make little tut-tut gestures everyone should accept that it's justified and worth you having bothered with?

Anybody here familiar with the coaching course Muñoz will have to take? I know it’s 18 months but what would the weekly commitment be? Is it likely to be easily fitted in alongside being a PL ‘manager’ or is there a risk it could be a time consuming distraction for him?

We went down because we stopped changing coaches so frequently.

Not sacking gracia soon enough cost us dearly.

    The method clearly works.

Ah. But as the FA know he's a Watford head coach, he also has to do the special 'how to keep your CV relevant for the modern job market' module.

I was heavily on the back of getting rid of him after the Coventry game. But certain circumstances with say the players talking, DeeKnee out injured and I still believe the stumbling to a new formation got him his stay of execution. A 6-0 home win and an incredible run of which I thought was near on impossible has made me eat my words thankfully. As @Smudger said I love the man. Has the Watford DNA in him and has created a fabulous spirit within the club and appreciates the roles of everyone a bit like GT. I hope he is a roaring success and by that mere survival in the PL. You can't not but like the little fella. Hopefully he can succeed and become someone that is compared to the legend GT one day.
It's going to be difficult next season but when players are totally committed to the coach as they are with Xisco anything can happen. Survival and keep building the squad , U23's and younger with hungry players that buy into what he Xisco wants and I will be over the moon and will happily say I was wrong about the guy.

All our managers under the Pozzo’s apart from Silva (if he’d been allowed to join Everton initially) have always eventually fallen short of their expectations or been deemed not good enough. You would assume law of averages would eventually dictate that changes, lets hope Munoz is finally the one to do it, but it will be a sad and depressing affair if he’s out of the door after 10 games, which is of course a distinct possibility for any Watford manager.

Absolutely. Though of course he will be gone within 10 games of the start of the season.

The Coventry game was awful, however a change of formation, players having a chat, Deeney being injured have all made a huge difference, however also as the season went on he started to make some meaningful substitutions, although often like for like with bringing Sanchos on to calm things down etc, he also started to make some tactical substitutions, ie changing to a back five at Norwich etc. He has made progress on a lots of counts, job is to stay in the P.L. Next season which he has a better chance of any jollyoldforeignerusetokickaball manager at this time!

It's a possibility for any manager these days. If he's backed in the market with the obvious short comings of the team I believe we will scrape through. But the recruitment has to be spot on. Goal scoring central striker. Goal creating central midfielder. WTE upgrade are essential. Then you're still looking at competition for Masina or hopefully better and left sided forward. But the latter I believe will be seen as the less important with Sema, JP, Cucho maybe and Zinckernagel all seen as more than capable options by the owners. We're definitely short and need to fill these positions with quality not quantity.

I’d be happy for this guy to stay, even if it means being relegated. We need to take a longer term view, and stop chopping and changing the management. I think Xisco has earned the right to be backed in the transfer market and given a proper chance.

Don't try and dodge the matter at hand which is a habit of yours. Digging out posts from months ago to have a dig against other posters. Your own fatuous words don't disguise the fact that you have done this before in your own little imaginary point scoring competition. Individuals like yourself make forums a chore for others with their petty squabbling so do stop. Everyone can be wiser with hindsight. At the time as Burnsy pointed out Cook would have been seen by most as a wise choice given his track record and familiarity with the division. Munoz was a complete unknown for all.

Nobody, even Gino could’ve know Munoz would’ve been a success, anybody claiming they did is a plonker of the highest order. Someone like Paul Cook would’ve more sense at the time to most people, the likes of Pardew and Hughes aside, pretty much any other manager would’ve made more sense. I’m more than happy to admit I was personally wrong about Munoz, but anyone pretending they knew differently from the start is kidding themselves.

No but some were prepared to give him a chance based on Gino largely successful track record, and some were throwing their toys out the pram and calling for a change in ownership.

I haven’t, I’ll check it out. He wasn’t actually someone I personally wanted, but I think he at least had some relatable experience in terms of overseeing a decent run of results in charge of Wigan? So there was plenty of logic behind the suggestion compared to someone with 11 games in an extremely poor league.

I think most of us would have taken him over Xisco lol, I seem to remember he did the punditry for the infamous game at Coventry, he was being very respectful, almost as if he had half an eye on the job! Don't imagine an English manager would have fancied the typical Pozzo revolving door mind you!
