    Lee Williamson that is.

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson wants to bring in Watford midfielder Lee Williamson. (Daily Mirror)

Thoughts? Is the Daily Mirror a reliable source?

To be honest it's speculation. I can't see it happening but if they want him they'll have to pay a decent sum. Willo isn't on massive wages and a great performer so he's not one we'll let go cheaply.

I'd let him go. Willo is just a bit flakey. Doesnt score goals and doesnt really protect the defence.

He has been our best midfielder this season though! Not our strongest player however so any offer worth considering.

This all depends on the cash involved...

Although Williamson has been playing well for us this season, there will always be a figure that would represent good business...

That's if a bid comes in...

In some ways i'd say sell (depending on the price). Is Williamson really 'better' than the other central midfielders we have?

I'd say yes but only slightly, if we do need cash then he is one i'd be more prepared to let leave

We had done well without him recently, so if it meant keeping Tommy Smith as far as I'm concerned he can go if the moneys right!

    From today's BBC rumours round-up:

They won't be coming in for Lee. And I for one am glad as he's been one of our best performers this season.

Daily mirror is an awful paper for football rumours. This deal sounds like a load of crap, he isn't good enough to be at a decent premiership club. I rate him but not that highly

Agreed, I think he is a good player for the championship but nowhere near Premiership good.

Found this on SSN website so thought i would post it as it's to do the the Fulham speculation and what Williamson thought of it.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11686_4935226,00.html

Watford midfielder Lee Williamson has refused to dwell on speculation linking him with a move to Premier League side Fulham and is happy to stay at Vicarage Road.

The former Rotherham United man impressed as the Hornets gave Chelsea a scare in the FA Cup at the weekend but he is unsure as to where the Fulham rumour originated from.

"I'm not too sure where it came from really, but I'm in regular contact with my agent and I just let him carry on with his work and keep my head down to focus on the job at hand here," Williamson told skysports.com.

"Whether someone did come in for me or not I'm not sure, but I'm still a Watford player and the window is shut now, so I'll just continue to plug away for the cause here."

The Hornets are focussing on their fight to retain Championship status, as they currently occupy a place in the relegation zone and Williamson is confident they can dig themselves out of trouble.

"It has been a funny season for us, with the new gaffer and the new board coming in, but with what the gaffer is doing with us at the moment I'm positive we will stay up this season," he added.

"He has made changes to the side and training is completely different now.

"He has made long-term changes so that the club can move forward instead of looking over our shoulders like this season. It will be a hard time to keep the club in this division, but we feel we are up for the challenge."

Seems that he wouldn't take to long in deciding to leave going by this comment. "I'm not too sure where it came from really, but I'm in regular contact with my agent".

If he did go he would become a nobody for fulham and sit in the reserves and play in the early rounds of the cup.

In all fairness, he is not playing regulary at the moment and if a
Premier League team came in for him, I am sure he would jump at the chance, can hardly blame him as possibly been one of our better players this season.

I don't think that he is good enough to go to the premier league. Yet i can see him moving on at the end of the season to a better championship club (Reading, Wolves) for a decent price e.g. 1.5million. Wolves are still after a good passer of the ball in midfield...

Imo he is a valuable player at least £1.5m and fulham won't pay that i don't think

  21. krisvad

The thing is he's playing above his pay-bracket. He's better than anything we can get at that wage. That means he's probably worth more to us than suiters are willing to buy. 1.5 - 2 mio I'd say.

  22. bracknellhornet

    bracknellhornet Reservist

yeah 1.5 - 2 mil sounds about right to me, i think we may look to sell a central midfielder in the summer as we seem to quite a few, although i suppose cork will be back at chelsea so maybe not?

oh right, that may change things i suppose but he could also fit rodgers plans if he is ever fit? isnt he a great passer ?

  25. wfc-4ever

I can't see him getting fit again and playing regularly, i guess his injury is similar to ledley king's possibly worse. As ledley can play but has to take days rest after the match.

I remember watching gareth away at tottenham in the prem and was good, spreaded the play well. As i haven't seen him a lot i dont know whether he is better than what we have already got. With willo, cowie and jenkins our main centre-mids for next season at least.

  26. bracknellhornet

    bracknellhornet Reservist

yeah id like to see a bit of williams though if he does get fit, i think jenkins will be a worthy replacement to cork when he returns to chelsea, even though jenkins is playing quite regulary already

Jenkins is going 2 become a vital player 4 us and we need 2 try and keep him in the dark so no-one else thinks about taking him away!

I would take any offer for Lee Williamson. His skill at times has been great but I think he is always liable for a red card and his set plays are usually poor.
I like Ross Jenkins and have no problem with him playing in Corks position when Cork returns to Chelsea, in fact I always want our academy boys playing rather than other teams academy boys, but IMO Cork is a bit special and Ross will have to step up another level or two to keep pace with him.
Unfortunatley I think Williams is finished.

Agreed. He currently represents good value and seems to be the type of player BR wants on board long term. Little point in him being sold for any less than the above.

I wouldn't like to see him leave unless it was for a lot of money.
We need players like Willo to get us out of the ccc and who have the potential to make the step up to the premier league.
He also is precfectly suited to the Rodgers style of play.

    Midfielders that would leave are

    Eustace(slow)
    O'Toole(cant pass and slow)
Bangura (hasnt had a look in)

Willo should definitely be part of BR's plans ATM. Jenkins is doing well, but is young and so can't be expected to play week in and out. Cork meanwhile is not our player, so we can't plan for a future fearuing him.
