I understand what you're saying as a leader but his examples on the pitch was nothing short of woeful imo. We need better and there's so many more better than him available. Whether we can get them time will tell. My biggest gripe with him was that he took his eye off the ball and turned his back on the attackers. How on Earth can you defend if you don't know where the ball is? I've said this ever since he joined us, even when we recorded the best defensive record in the league. We have to move on.
He's absolute ***** and always has been. It's like an ingrained trait in Watford fans to not be able to let go and constantly clutch at straws.
Yep, and I can understand it in the case of mercurial talents like Penaranda , Wooter and Fabbrini, guys who show flashes of brilliance and there’s always the hope they’ll finally figure out the key to the remotest level of consistency. But a clogger like WTE? Come on now.
A last minute winner against Udinese! https://www.flashscore.com/match/dCyYBwlg/#/match-summary/match-summary
According to a report we are due to get a windfall of £347K due to WTE's clause being triggered as Salernitana were saved from relegation. Is this correct? It's in the WO but I'm never fully sure the story is true.
Why would you not believe former club employee and seemingly the journalist closest to club insiders in the industry Andrew French, but believe confirmation or denial by any random member of this forum?
Good point, but you know as well as I do, anything stated as fact on this forum is 100% legit and completely true. So I wanted to get the thumbs up from the forum members before I made up my mind.
To be fair he looked an ok championship player in the promotion season. Then we had a back four of him Sieralta, Kiko and Masina. None of the. Enter half’s were good enough the following season in the Premier League, but as a unit were better than what we had last year. I would say though that Cathcart and Porteous made decent contributions to the season. If, Troost come back, make him captain and see if he can contribute in the new head coaches preferred way of playing. Do we need better? Would I think he has the potential to our best centre half? No to both, but i doubt we are going to get substantially better that what we have on the books. So we might as well see in this close season if he can be part of the match day squad.
I'd say this is a dreadful idea but at the same time you may well be right. Next season will be Bachman, Kabasele, Troost, Cathcart, Kalu, Kayembe and Cleverley with Giaretta undermining behind the scenes. And of course the new gaffer will be blamed for what happens.
WTE has an OK pass range, OK pace and obvious leadership qualities. Him being Homegrown is a positive mark for him as well. But he was error prone which won't change now and time will have made people forget those errors. I'm not against him being a backup option, but meh. Very meh. I do think we missed him in a leadship role, but a bit like Cleverley, that needs to be on the pitch than just in training and it's hard to say he has any fan's trust on the pitch.
I think he's a player who was a bit frazzled at times by the mistakes he made (overblown a bit, he's still a good defender at this level), some of which were because he was charged with playing the ball out from the back, but if he's not asked to do that, he might thrive
He’s not great, but he’s not as bad as people like to make out. You don’t have a solid few years in Serie A and captain Nigeria if you’re a bad player. I’d have him back for his leadership alone.
I think the issue will be whether he wants first team football or is happy to start as back up and earn his place. Presume that's why he left us on loan last season.
Problem is, as with Kabasele, he can play fine for 94 mins and then do something utterly dumb in the 95th which loses the game. Fine once or twice a season but this is pretty well every game.
Look there's no doubt he's a decent fella but as I've said he's a woeful defender. Can't believe people are trying to justify him coming back.
The longer a player is out of the team, the better they become. Lovely bloke, but raises my blood pressure every time he's on the pitch. Absolute liability.
If we're gonna have 3 at the back, then that's an extra spot in the team, and Cathcart is supposedly going as well. What will help him as well is that he's probably the fastest CB at the club at the moment which will help his case if we're gonna play a higher line
After the last few years we really should have learnt that we need leaders and players who want to play for the team. Id take that over an "on paper" better player who gives no effort any day He may make a few mistakes but again Ill take that as his negative over a non-tryer who doesnt.
I actually really liked the combo, what was very strange is that we never saw it again and Cathcart and Kabasele were just given a free pass back into the side (and at a higher level!)
Leaving us a little light at CB now both Cathcart and WTE are gone. Current options are Porteous, Hoet, Sierralta, Kabasele and Pollock. Will we think that’s going to be strong enough or will be bring in another player? I believe Livermore can fill in at CB, so maybe this is what we’ll go with for next season.
Does Ismael play 2 so leave 3 as back up . Well till Sierralta gets injured or Pollock goes out on loan ?
