Agreed. But I believe the main factors were: one Sarr as you said, two it was mostly woeful finishing from the opposition and finally Bachmann being a very decent shot stopper. Yes he's bad marshalling his box with crosses but I can't honestly remember him fumbling a shot.
I worry that he falls into the same basket as Kiko, in that he’s clearly not good enough for the top level, but he’s also vaguely serviceable enough in the Championship to justify prioritizing other positions above replacing him. In an ideal world, we’d scrap 95% of what we have, but the scope of work that needs to be completed for us to be competitive next year is likely so vast, you just know Pozzbury are going to think they can get away with WTE starting 40 games next year and kick the cab down the road for another season.
The thing is we'll need 3 CBs on the pitch at any one time next season, so I'd be less inclined to get rid of a serviceable Championship centre back who still has a few years in him compared to a right (wing)-back who was excellent last season but who might be over the hill now, especially when there is such an obvious alternative for free
Anyone that wants this massive donkey at our club next season needs their head tested. By far our worst CB at the club and that’s a fact, regardless of how people feel about Kaba and Cathcart. Ekong was at fault for more goals conceded this season than any other CB before he was rightly dropped. He’s a walking disaster. He doesn’t get a free pass just because he rallied the troops in the championship last season. He makes costly mistakes every game! Everyone with eyes could see in the championship he would be horrific in the Prem and no surprise he was. Only got away with it because the championship is so poor compared to the Prem and we didn’t get punished. He needs to be one of the first out of the door. Second needs to be Masina.
Was he the one who was literally scared of heading the ball and would duck all the time. Not a great skill for a defender
He's crap and makes costly mistakes but it's not a massive risk to have him as a squad player because the quality of forwards in the champ is poor. Take Solanke and Mitrovic out the next striker is Weimann, and the next stand out is Brereton Below that is a littany of decent but not prolific strikers. I'd prefer to replace Cathcart first. Agree with Ctu that jettersoning Masina has to be a priority.
A fantastic OG tonight against Mexico. Anyone who seriously thinks this guy is worth keeping this season, let alone better than any of our other CB’s at the club, you are an idiot! For all I care, pimp him around to every single club and take the best offer, even if it’s only £200k, just get rid of him.
I was watching the Super Eagles last night and Troost-Ekong actually looked decent. Dennis missed a couple of chances one of those being about four yards out. Estúpinan scored the winner for Ecuador.
Fantastic, just when he appears to have stepped in and shown himself to be an asset perhaps worthy of starting for us he gets injured again. I'm surprised to be saying this but let's hope it's nothing major and it's more of a precaution.
Well after seeing his passing against MK Dons and Sunderland I think he's suffering from feet shaped like Toblerone.
We can get a tune out of Cathcart, Sierralta and Hause at Championship level. I agree regarding Kabs and WTE. They have had many chances to show they can improve but they are a total disaster when playing together. I'd go as far to say WTE is worth keeping around as he does seem to care at least, and I've seen him play well when paired with a strong partner. Even though I like Kabs as a person, his time as a first team player, or even a Watford player, should now be over.
A good defender at this level, and although it was helped by having competent midfielders, his passing wasn't a problem today neither
There was nothing good about his performance at Blackpool. If he needs a competent Cathcart next to him to make him look better then he’s not a good defender at this level, just passable at best.
Went walkies at one point in the second half and Sargent was only stopped from steaming through on goal by great Gosling tracking back.
Oh god, we're going to start pretending some of our awful players are actually alright again, aren't we?
Think Will very much enjoyed himself today. His celebration for each goal showed what it meant to him, and his wave to the lad who got sent off was brilliant!
Yep WTE is exactly the sort of player we need. Maybe not the best technically but gives his all and is a leader
Well done William. He gets a lot of sh!t, especially from me, but he was good today. His passing into midfield was a bit hairy but who cares when he scored and waved goodbye to one of the dipsh!ts!
