Will We Make The Play Offs?

A team who can't beat Wigan/Huddersfield at home and lose to QPR twice don't deserve the play offs.

But a team who were 30 seconds away from doing the double over Burnley, probably does!!

A team who only lost to one of the best teams in the division at the time because of a dodgy late offside call probably does!

Could pick out similarly poor results for every side chasing 6th

    Yes.

And tonight I'll be having a threesome with Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson.

And then post later on that they didn’t put enough effort in, the passion wasn’t there and it’s no wonder you couldn’t put in a decent performance over the full 90 minutes.

Then another poster will come along and advise that he doesn’t rate Robbie or Johansson and therefore they weren’t worth the effort in the first place.

Then another poster will come along and say that they'd happily settle for Robbie and Johansson just giving them a good kicking.

Then it’ll emerge that Nath only gets his dates through one celebrity match making site that makes a lot of money from backhanders.

But fortunately he’s now going to use a matchmaker who’s done wonders with a guy in Germany, so good times ahead Nath!

The barmy thing is that if we'd beaten Wigan and held on at Coventry we'd be 6th.

It's ridiculous isn't it. I guess every side in the division can point to some points here and there that they should've got, but didn't, but we've been absolutely pants.

Even if we won all 4 remaining games and then the playoffs, it would rank as the worst promotion in our history. I guess good for the bank balance, but less so for the club to learn any lessons.

Millwall's last games apart from Blackburn at home on the last day of the season are Birmingham at home and then Wigan and Blackpool away, think it's fair to say if we are to sneak into the play-offs it'll be in place of Blackburn not Millwall

We've been right pants all season and are lucky to be 11th.

Might get another 4 points this season. But I would quicker predict more red cards and strops than a playoff place.

As pish poor as the season has been, ultimately I still go into every game wanting to see us win and the more there is to play for the more enjoyable those wins are.

It is crazy to think after all this and sitting in 12th position, that if we win our last 4 games we’ll potentially be in the play offs!

Looking at that (highly unlikely) scenario where we do win all 4, then looking at what each of the teams above us would need to do, and their fixtures (quite a few play each other) I’d say we’d have a slightly better than 50% chance of scraping in.

One game at a time - you never know.

It's going to be an epic end of the season. The Premier League will be proud to welcome the home of world football back into its list of stadiums.

Was instinctively surprised to see the 3% chance (and 28/1 odds) number, but the chances of us picking up more points than every single team above us - and in some cases three or four points more - probably is that remote.

It's not just us winning every game, it's every other team dropping points.

I suspect we'll end up being the failure to turn leads into wins against Wigan, Huddersfield and Coventry away from making it. The number of points we've chucked away just in the last three months (Rotherham home, Reading away, Blackburn home and Preston home should have seen us take a minimum of four more) is infuriating. Also worth thinking back to conceding late at home to Sunderland and Swansea, losing 3-2 to QPR, Manaj's late miss v Hull.

You get what you deserve, I guess.

Scoring goals has been a massive concern all season. We have not had a potenant strike force for a long time, and the vast majority of our goals since then have come from the midfield area. Davis, Bayo, Manaj, Araju, Fletcher, King not good enough. Cucho would of been great, but he wanted to leave. Even Dennis, who caused some player unrest last season yes, would of been a decent player to pluck back into the side at this lower level. Other sides around us have a much deadlier strike rate, and we have been just as guilty of missing massive scoring chances in a lot of games this season. Playing the wrong ball, poor awareness of what is around certain players (Sarr) and just total apathy when trying to score has derailed us. Defensively we've been average, but had we been taking the chances we have squandered we would/might be in a much higher position points wise. Manga must know this, and a new striker has to top of our shopping list if we are going to mount any sort of challenge at all next season.

Interesting. I put semi-realistic results of other sides based on their end of season form and had us win all our games 1-0 bar a plausable 1-1 draw at Sunderland. We finished 8th. Millwall, Boro, Luton and Cov contested the POs.

  27. Yes we have to win every game; and others must drop points unexpectedly.

Also done it - we win all our games (of course we do) and get in the Play-offs!

Lu*on in the semi-finals. Obviously based on the league games we win 4-2.

Middlesbrough in the final. Win that as well (obviously)

Manga does his magic, and we're all going on a European tour in 2024/25!

There is little to no chance we both win our last four games, and at least one of the six teams above us doesn’t do the same or very similar.

It’s also pointless to look at dropped points, because over a 46 game season every team above us will have the same tales to tell. If you drop points or give up leads in games against so called lesser teams it’s because in one way or another, you weren’t good enough to hold on.

  30. Just done it again, (obvs with us winning 4 of 4 cos no chance otherwise) and my last day scenario is having to win and match Coventry v Boro (we would be on same points, same GD but 1 better GS as Cov).

If we won all of our remaining games, and every other side continues their current PPG based on form (last 5 games) the table would read as follows.

    5th Watford 71
    6th Preston 69.2
    7th Millwall 69
    8th Coventry 68.4
    9th Sunderland 68.2
    10th Blackburn 68
    11th West Brom 66
    12th Norwich 65

(If we repeat our form PPG we'd finish with 63...)

Of course that doesn't take into account the relative difficulty of everyone's previous 5 games, and their last 4/5 to come. We'd need something pretty miraculous, before even looking at the likelihood of us winning 5 games on the bounce. Very unlikely, but something to keep a (small) interest in the next few games, at least.
