It seems i believed at end of oct, but by the swansea away game i had accepted we just were not very good and my ‘surely this squad will wake up soon’ mood had morphed to, ‘they just are not the players i thought they were’. Ye of little faith.

I spent the majority of the season unsure if they were good players underperforming or just overhyped and not very good. As the season went on I became more and more convinced they just weren't very good, but we have now clearly seen they were just underperforming for 2/3 of the season.

I've held my cards close to my chest on this topic, but right now I think we might just do it.

AKA the all-knowing elite, anyone outside this list isn't worth listening to IMO.

You'll all soon be receiving your golden ticket to the promotion party on HMS P̶T̶L̶ PTA.

But what if Bournemouth lodge an appeal against our promotion on the ground that we cheated them out of it?

    What we have achieved this season in hindsight is nothing short of phenomenal. Gosh, I’m turning into a happy clapper. My brother and I were texting each other earlier, and I found myself sending him this;

When you take into consideration Covid, the pre-season shambles where we only had 10 players training, the rest all moving potentially moving on. The short break between relegation and the season starting. The toxic environment where the players have admitted they were on each other’s backs until the big convo. The lack of a pre-season for most of our squad, Ivic’s negative tactics, Masina missing for 4 months etc. The list goes on and on as to why we shouldn’t have gone up.

It’s a shame that there seems to be this lack of excitement over this promotion. When in reality, given all the circumstances, it’s actually a spectacular promotion.

The boys have got the job done against all odds. In February most of us thought it was all over and in two and a half months, we completely turned it around.

The more in think about it. The more I love this promotion.

We should have won the league. That's my main gripe.

It was always clear that we were good enough to go up automatically and clear for some time that we should be competing for the top spot. Our success has not been phenomenal at all in my opinion as we have the best team but merely demonstrates the importance of the right attitude and mindset throughout the club. It is the difference between winning and losing over a season and probably accounts for about 70% or 80% of what we see on the pitch.

Basically, we had the same squad and ability in both halves of the season, yet our performances compared like chalk and cheese. The difference between wallowing in a cesspit of misery as we give up, and believing in ourselves, and striving to achieve our potential - and succeeding.

Let that be a lesson to those who judge potential by performance (sometimes over a few minutes) or results rather than the displayed footballing ability that they seem incapable of recognising.

    ZZ dons tin hat. :D

I like the way some of us are ok to poke piss out of Brentford for a sense of entitlement but it’s ok for us to do the equivalent with Norwich.

The season is 46 games, just because we had a high turnover of players at the start, a manager playing the wrong tactics, a manager who needed an injury to a player to force a formation change, we can’t just pretend those things didn’t happen and pick the best parts out, I’m pretty sure that’s what a lot of us do over Brentford fans thinking they were going to win the league when they were top and unbeaten in 21?

Since the Huddersfield loss and Ivic getting the sack we’ve made up 1 point on Norwich, 1 point in 25 games, and that includes beating them twice. Its not like we’ve even been significantly better than them in our best spell of the season, we haven’t.

We hit a cracking patch of form which got us automatic promotion and deservedly so, but we aren’t the best team, you’re also kidding yourself if you honestly think we play the best football, we don’t and we haven’t. As Watford fans we're entertained by our teams results, but objectively we have very rarely played that well in games for more than fits and starts.

It’s looking tough now. Really need everyone on the top of their game for the visit of the Swans. Real 8 pointer now. One more push and we are there.

A fair post and I was certainly personally wrong about our ability to string such a good set of results together.

That said I didn’t spend the whole of last summer posting that it should be a lesson to you that we got relegated blah blah blah after you consistently dismissed it. Let’s hope you take a similar approach.
