I agree. It already feels odd. I'm sure a lot of it stems from not being able to actually go to games - but promotion should be a moment of euphoria....yet at present, it seems like it'll be nothing more than a moment of relief mixed with trepidation (if it happens).

I think Gino will already be looking for a manager/coach with pulling power in terms of incoming transfers.

What is the point of such threads? Nobody knows. It’s all yet to be decided.

Everybody can have their say and guess, but none of us actually know.

There’s so much nonsense being spouted at the moment by good people, but let’s face it not the sort of people you’d want to be stuck in the trenches with when things get a bit tough.

I have no idea whether we will go up, or blow it.

The only way is to wait and see.

But can’t see any point over worrying or stressing about things we have no control over. That’s not healthy for the mind. And it stops us enjoying what has still been a very decent run of late and one that could still end very happily.

Then I really think will be the time for anxiety as we are no way good enough as it stands for another crack at the PL. We have so many deficiencies it’s actually quite scary looking ahead to next season.

Could we not say that about almost every thread on here? From whether a new head coach is a good appointment to upcoming games to new signings. We don't know for certain how any of it will turn out!

Actually I think it would be entirely appropriate, to apologetically limp over the line in some sort of defiant protest against going up. This would sum up this particular Watford side perfectly.

We're in a fantastic position to go up. Ok it was a tepid unacceptable performance yesterday. But what do we all think Swansea and Brentford fans are saying in only getting a point at home against Wycombe and Millwall.

We all knew yesterday was a superb chance to get the points but Derby games are impossible to predict. We have a great chance Tuesday against an already promoted side, then at home to Millwall where our form is excellent, even though performances haven't been brilliant.

Have faith people it's in our hands.

Might as well shut down the forum if this thread is pointless!

Does limping over the line after a long 46 match season not count as promotion then?

Does stuttering close to the finishing post totally spoil the memories of a fantastic winning run that’s seen us climb from 5th to 2nd, reeling in our rivals one by one?

When we worried after the Coventry match that we might not even make the play-offs, would getting automatic on the final day tarnish our memories of this season?

Should one defeat be reason enough to re-visit all the negativity, doubts, criticisms etc that some people have about us?

If we blow this, I will be as negative and critical of us as the next person, believe me.

    But we haven’t yet.

I’m a Watford supporter and to me support is the key word.

It is a pointless thread btw. Just an excuse for optimists to tell us everything will be ok when they really have no idea it will be, and pessimists to take pleasure in telling us no it won’t, and that they were right all along. Nothing’s gained by it.

It’s a football forum. Fans are just working their worries out more than anything else. I think we will go up and I don’t care if we sneak over the line on the final day. Not sure why you are seemingly getting annoyed with people who are more pessimistic.

I’m not annoyed with anybody. You’re all my football friends on here. It’s a free world for people to say what they want.

Could say the same about the people that said that we should sack Gracia before the season where we finished the highest we ever did in the Premier League and got to a cup final...

Yes you could indeed Steve Leo. I get more things wrong than most people on here. You’ve done well to remember one such incident and bring it up two years later to make your point. Although that was an opinion of course on something. This thread is more to do with predictions and guesses. So there’s a slight difference.

The club make fans pessimistic. After watching the Luton game, who can honestly say we've got this and we're in control? It's the most logical reaction after seeing that. Look at the games leading up to it. We were poor against Reading, Sheff Wed and Boro. We got away with it result wise, but the Luton performance and result was always coming. The optimistic fans will deny this and just want to see the good things and ignore the rest. I tend to take a holistic view and that reflects on how I see things.

If we played well and were unlucky, then that's totally different, but we didn't. We were lucky it was only 1-0. It could have easily been a right thrashing.

What will change at Norwich? Again, the evidence would indicate it will be much of the same. Watford are nervous and this is something I expected to happen. This is based on past events, which may not have any bearing on the current squad, but it does seem to be part of Watford's DNA to choke at the vital moment.

We've been rubbish all season away from home. For a side who sit in second place, to have only scored 18 goals just does not compute. With that in mind, this is why I think we'll certainly lose at Norwich and Brentford. Thus leaving the two home games. I'm not saying it's beyond us to win those, but when you add the ingredient called pressure, you get Wobbly Watford every time. I just don't see Watford as having the mental capacity to deal with the situation of getting promoted. Gauntlet thrown to the players.....prove me wrong.

Ofcourse it could be like when we won promotion in 2015 winning I think it was 4 or 5 in a row to do it before the final day mishap to lose the title but seems unlikely unfortunately with the game coming up.

Brentford seem to have a particularly bad record missing out on promotion.

Haven’t won any of the play off campaigns they have been involved in so you feel their fans will hope to be 2nd.

Yes we haven’t played that well of late, although I feel we did enough to beat Reading as we had that one purple patch early on, and didn’t perform too badly at Boro in places but obviously failed to kill them off (the Pedro chance).

To balance things up though, we must acknowledge that our rivals have also not played great of late either. It’s easy to see us wavering and assume Brentford and Swansea must be demolishing all in front of them, but they’ve both wobbled occasionally too. Cliche I know, but this is now the toughest part of the season with the winning line so close.

Whether we’ve played great or merely dragged ourselves over the line each time, we have taken 34 points from the last 42.

We now wait to see if yesterday’s result was a blip (local derby syndrome etc) or the start of a big wobble that will cost us. I have no idea, though I admit to not feeling as confident as I was last week.

We’ve not lost two in a row all season, so it goes without saying now wouldn’t be the time for that.

Norwich ironically could be both the fixture that first endeared us to Xisco, and then the one that ultimately seals his fate.

If we blow this, he will ultimately get all the blame. Personally I’d hold Ivic partly accountable too. Just as Flores did last year in setting up too defensively in winnable home games, I still winch at the memories of those awful away draws or losses this season at the likes of Wycombe, Sheff Wed, Barnsley, Bristol City and Forest. The points we dropped there for being too cautious could ultimately be as damaging as results like yesterday.

We probably will still go up, but in the most Watfordy way possible. Brentford will concede a late goal to draw whilst we get spanked by Swansea and somehow edge ourselves up in underwhelming fashion.

Christ, no thanks. Good work from him keeping so many clean sheets whilst playing behind a mostly extremely tight defence (somehow, given WTE's passing...) (( That 'somehow' is named Sierralta)) but if we go up we will need our last line of defence to be an extra asset - an experienced organiser who can pull off the kind of saves Foster was able to conjure for most of his time with us. We will also need them not to piss themselves anytime a ball is swung in from a dead ball. I would far rather see someone in the mould of Foster or Gomes come in for that first year up, possibly with Dahlberg back as number two - if he doesn't go out on an improved loan.

In fairness to Bachmann, yes he's been very well protected, yes he's benefitted at times from some woeful finishing (they could have had 3 yesterday), but he's done little wrong, and even his one big weakness (dealing with crosses), he seems to be getting better at, generally, we aren't troubled nearly as much from set pieces as before. I too would prefer a new goalie in the Prem (or potentially Dahlberg), but he's far from our biggest problem right now

Promotion is gone now, I don’t think we will even make top 6.

We should focus on bringing through players like Hungbo who will be a future captain.
