Have you seen Alice (Alisa in Russian) the fox ? I don't know the story behind this. Perhaps an orphaned cub ? I'm not a fan of keeping wild animals as pets (which often seems to be the case in the comments ie I would like an ocelot or Pallas Cat because they're cute looking) but I think she is. Very talkative and an enormous brush. Maybe foxes in this part of the world have evolved thicker coats and brushes.

Yes I watch Alisa on occasions.

I especially like the way he says "Aleeesah"!

I watch more of Mikayla and SaveAFox.

Today Fawzi the sand fox is having breakfast with her!

    Wonderful ears!

Discovered that starlings are very keen on TUC biscuits. Then water biscuits and finally cheese thins.
Then the gulls displaced them - also liking them
Then the crows saw off the gulls.
The crows dipped them in the water feeder - not daft them crows

The crow is extremely bright, the cleverest bird and much smarter than almost all tennis club committee members.

    Bad start to Spring watch.

The Jay has had six Wren chicks and the Mistle Thrush ones too.

    Very upsetting.

I am looking forward to a BBC1 programme Sunday at 7 called Spy in the Ocean. They previewed it this morning and have spy cameras in animatronic creatures to observe at closehand. Extraordinary creatures they have created to be able to get close to real wildlife

It is. Corvids and raptors get an extremely bad press. Part of the reason they have been persecuted. Part of the excuse for which they have been shot and trapped. And quite a few horrible people want to see this come back in full swing while it covertly goes on all the time usually on shooting estates. It's part of the cycle of life. And had it not been for us destroying and fragmenting habitat then species like the mistle thrush would be fine. We're far more dangerous to the planet than any species.

Again for @I Blame Bassett. The lovely Jess McCaffrey has set up some trail cameras which caught those glorious shots of the fox cubs frolicking around outside their earth. Here's another overload of cuteness.

The intelligence of other sentient creatures on this planet should not be underestimated. It is an appalling crime that certain humans are involved or excuse the killing of great apes, monkeys, elephants, dolphins and cetaceans.

  18. I am freaking out. Either I am being subjected to an elaborate practical joke, or...

It started about 3 weeks ago. Something or someone was digging holes in random places - strawberry pots, raised beds, planters. Then last week a marigold was dug up - and next to it was a gardening glove. Not one of mine. Then this morning, (background - I have growbags for tomatoes and cucumbers on the roof of the shed cos it has constant sun) I went up the ladder to the shed roof to water the toms, and one plant has been uprooted. Looks like it will survive being re-planted, so I start opening up a hole, whereupon I feel a large stone. I'm sure that wasn't there before... I pull it out. It's not a stone. It's a chicken's egg. Shop bought because it is stamped.

Would a fox do this? Too big for a crow or Magpie. Anybody else had anything like this?

We’ve certainly had foxes digging up plants and leaving shoes in the garden.

Careless of them. You could track them down by the size and print impression

Yes maybe squirrels digging up plants searching for buried acorns. Not much fruit and nuts around in spring, great insect harvest for birds but squirrels may need to find their autumn caches ? An egg is odd but could well be a fox or squirrel caching after finding the egg when they had a full belly ?

Something dug up the plants around my pond overnight. Could have been a fox as it was quite widespread but equally it could have been suirrels buryig a load of monkey nuts I put in a feeder for them yesterday. I need to replace my trail cam to see what is going on at night.

This is why, although I love wildlife, I don’t watch wildlife programmes (including all the Attenborough ones). I know it’s nature doing its thing, but I find it too upsetting to watch.

Yes. Same reason when we were last on safari in Africa and a pride of lions brought down an antelope, half a dozen jeeps rushed in to see the end and we instructed our surprised driver to head the other way. Seeing the chase was enough.

Could be badgers, they wrecked my lawn a couple of years ago and kept coming back. Blocked up all the ways they could get in / out and it ceased.

Interesting fact: Foxes and badgers often live together in Badger sets. The foxes bring in the food and the badgers keep it clean.
