Why is Deeney STILL untouchable?

He's incredibly predictable with his penalties. Can't remember a Watford player so consistent at scoring them though. Happy to be corrected by some statto.

Helguson had an impressive run of penalties if I recall correctly.

Quite. People who don't care about things don't tend to spend time reading them, absorbing them, and then talking about them in interviews repeatedly.

It really is astonishing why we persisted playing him as a lone striker for so long. He has never ever been any good playing that role, even in his peak years.

loan him out to Birmingham and they pay half of his wages. He might get fit for his beloved team and score a few goals against our opponents.

Probably watching with sadness in his restaurant/hotel. What a player. Something of what I would like to see. No chance of it happening unfortunately. Decisions need to be made quickly but wisely. Physical and mental conditioning absolutely spot on so that we hit the Chumpionship running. The worst thing the side can do is to stumble into next season carrying the ills of this one and be floundering about in mid table. Gino needs to audit his own management structure. It's been found wanting. Get the right coach in. Get rid of some of the old deadwood and with the money bring in a couple of loans and some of our youth. A couple of signings like the ones I like the look of to make sure we are not a sieve down the flank.

    GK Foster/Dahlberg retained
    Bachmann sold, Gomes retired

    LB Estupinan/Masina brought home

    RB Tomiyasu/Guidara
Femenia sold, Mariappa sold Janmaat sent to the glue factory

    CB Kabasele/Wilmot/Harwood-Bellis /Dawson retained/brought back from loan/loan
    Cathcart sold

    MF Quina/Cleverly/Doyle/Morsby/Capoue /Hughes (c)/Pussetto retained/signed on loan
    Pereyra/Doucoure /Deulofeu sold

    FW Welbeck/Pedro/Sarr/Hernandez/Suarez retained
    Deeney sold/Gray sold

I know it's football so any amount of insanity is possible but who on earth is going to buy Gray?

That lot up the road hopefully. Mind you they would have to sell their fleapit first in order to raise any funds. Like Betjeman said about Slough the RAF should use Luton for target practice.

That as well Cude. I have a fantasy squad in my mind that would do the business in the Chumpionship. I would love it. Just love it when we thrash Lootown 4-0 and 5-0. They may be giving it one now but they seem to have forgotten the gulf in class there is between the divisions if we keep our best players. I mean their defence shipped over eighty goals.

Nice paraphrase on Slough IBB. A Subalterns Love Song would be right up your street. As a child I had rather rude alternative words in the first couple of verses. :p Dear old JB would have disliked Watford too I think given the level of vandalism from the council over older buildings.

    Thank you Smudger.
    Yes he would indeed.
I can't help recall the end of season awards in Joka's season.
I attended with my friend Tennis David,Mr IBB declining as his ball of string doesn't stretch that far!
We were very impressed with Gino's speech and how Troy 'worked' the room and never sat down, talking to all and sundry.
Five years ago give or take a couple of months but how times have changed.
Never believe the publicity and keep working.

I cannot help but admire Neil Armstrong and Gagarin for that after what they achieved. Deeney seems to have left the ground a little too much for many peoples liking. A strong manager like GT always would bring people back to earth and remind them of what really matters and the collective.

Not sure about sending janmaat to the glue factory.
Surely it would be better send him to the glass recycling plant.
Or just chuck him in a bottle bank somewhere.

I missed Success come to think of it as well. You don't want to remember they are actually part of the playing staff. Penaranda as well although I would keep him as he ability and a chance to develop I have given up on Success. Get rid for whatever we can. We have far too big a squad with too many wastrels. We will still need a fair amount of midfielders though given that there are 46 matches and some of the above are not exactly in their prime. Hence the need to blend youth with experience.

Probably misses the glamour. I don't think he will have any trouble being a pundit when you have complete thickos like Carragher and Redknapp as competition. While we are all thinking when he has been with us: 'Please Troy......

As Plato pointed out sometimes fewer words are more eloquent and the more someone speaks the more you realize what a fool they are.

Deeney has ruined his legacy for me. I haven’t seen any leadership from him during this period. No encouragement for other team members, no sense of fighting for the cause just tired smiles when he missed glorious chances. In other games he’s been quicker to moan at team mates rather than encourage them. It’s ironic commentators go on about his amazing captaincy when he does nothing to demonstrate this.

I turned ofF quickly at the end Yesterday’ but from what I saw Gomes looked the most bothered and was trying to console teammates. Whereas Deeney was fist bumping every opposition player he could.

He should have been a legend forever but it just feels so tainted now. He has to go for us to rebuild.

Yes but what about the 4 games in every 5 that he's no available due to injury ?

  35. wfcmoog

He's very good with the media. Comes out and says all the right things: 'we weren't good enough today and our fans deserve better' - all that kind of stuff, but he never, ever shows anything to back that up in the next game. Just more of the same.

If he really believed all of the contrite, 'honest' straight talking stuff he comes out with, he'd come back and bust a gut to make sure things improved.

Week after week this season he has delivered the same, static, 1 dimensional, ponderous performance.

He's got away with it because he's tucked away half a dozen odd penalties this year, but he's been a perfectly useless no. 9 and is a very big part of the reason why we went down.

I believe the real Troy is more the one who didn't think he needed to apologise for missing a crucial penalty against Spurs. I think he believes he does enough week in and out and I'm sure he thinks it's someone else's fault if we lose. Given the size of his mouth and his personality, not to mention his status within the club, I'm also positive he's a big part of the cultural problem within the squad.
