Why is Deeney STILL untouchable?

He reached double figures again this season (although he takes pens) and has missed a few games, maybe one of the promoted teams would take him as a second striker!

  2. Shame 3 of those if not all 4 will put in transfer requests, but it would have been brilliant to see (in the alternative universe TD tootles off and those 4 stay)

He’s scored more than last season, other forwards have all scored less than last season.

This will upset some people but I’d keep him for next season.

Sounded like it was probably his last game for the club.

Disappointing but not unexpected that he didn't seem that down about the situation and the club but rather kept making it about him.

    A couple of quotes:

"I don't even know if it will be my last game for Watford."

"If it is my last game I'm happy I went out on my shield."

At least he could admit it wasn't good enough:

    "Was it good enough? No."

    Finally:

"If it's my time to go it's my time to go."

It is your time to go Troy. Thanks for the first few seasons, but you've long outstayed your time here.

Agree his wages and that of the other highest earning will be a problem, but they could also be a problem for other clubs to take them off our hands, we don’t know which players have a reduction agreed in their contracts!
The next few weeks will be interesting on the who goes, who stays, who comes in stakes!

He scored 3 less goals from open play in the PL this season - half his 10 goals were penalties.

From open play in the second half of the season he's looked hopeless, he's missed countless opportunities which most strikers at this level have to be burying.

For the pair on 170K combined that is an enormous outlay on two strikers. One who pads stats via penalties and the other who is patently Chump standard only. For those wages we could get in two young hungry strikers who are on the up and certainly in the case of the homophobe with a better technique.

Bring Toney in that has been talked about. We need to find that young striker that Deeney was once and mould them into a weapon. You cannot have two strikers like these and one in particular stealing a living. Although he might do the business in the Chump as a substitute.

Good news is he wasn't exactly subtle about the fact that hes probably played his last game for us

Just need to find someone stupid enough to take that Scummer **** Gray off our hands now

We prob need to hope that Brentford lose in the playoffs so we can get him ahead of them.

Unbelievable interview. Literally is all about him, cannot wait for this **** to leave the club, he's beyond parody at this point.

And no, I've not been being sarcastic or exaggerating in this post or any of my others if anyone thought that. He is the most toxic person at Watford FC, I fully believe that. It's the Troy Deeney show forever.

**** off troy. You've been a passenger for 90% of the season. If you'd played like a spartan, even half the time, we wouldn't be down.

Too little, too late. You're a Watford legend for the previous work you did here, but this year, and last you have been a passenger and have hurt the club with ineffective performances, lack of fitness and a big gob.

History will remember you fondly, but it will take 4 or 5 years to get the stench of the past 2 years out of the memory.

I know people take the piss, but I think we'll miss having someone who can actually take penalties. Can't remember having a player a felt more confident with in that situation.

What did he say in his interview that has upset people?

TBF he played ok today but put his big chance over the bar .
It's time to move on from TD
A new start younger hungrier players . I know that is an old
cliche but I would like to see a team captained by Hughes.
Pedro in the team . Can we keep hold of Sarr? . And a quick young
striker who knows where the back of the net is .

At the risk of the hate, if its truly his last game for the club, then overall hes been a great servant.

Troy doesnt pick the team and hes had injuries but i believe hes tried as hard as he can.

    All the best Troy.

Those players aren't going to be here next season Smudger, and even if they were it would be the leaden-footedness of Troy that will result in the fleecing of people, only it will be us.

Pussetto will stay and Pedro. Welbeck I think may well stay. People are stating he is thinking of possibly getting into the Euro contention for next year. Given the strikers England have or in a supporting midfield/secondary striker role that is a very tall order. Kane/Greenwood/Rashford/Sancho are the way Southgate is building. We have to get Sarr to stay. If an offer comes in it has to be astronomical to be accepted.

Gino if he can do anything right must not be low balled because no doubt some of the PL *****s will do exactly that and try and unsettle him or get his agent involved. To me he just seems a lad that wants to play football and get on with it. Hardly makes a fuss off the pitch.

Yup. But he’s still scored more than last season.

I don’t think he’s been good enough, but none of them have been.

I think we can certainly keep hold of three of them. Sarr is one that many PL clubs and Europe would be interested in. If they do want him then they will have to pay the right amount. No low offers accepted plus a sell on clause.

  23. Chumlax

You're right, I will definitely take the piss. He's an insanely average penalty taker, and it's the same thing every time; as one dimensional as the rest. We're not talking about Le Tissier here, I'm never particularly confident when he steps up.

  24. Chumlax

Obviously, but if they don't then he'll go to Udinese on loan or for a 'fee'; there's no way in hell he's setting foot in the Championship.

Watford captain Troy Deeney speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s not about today’s game, it’s a year of not being good enough. We can be frustrated with today but if we can’t defend as a team you’re going to lose more games than you win. But it’s worse for the fans and those who work at the club they’re the ones that might lose their jobs and it isn’t fair on them.

"The club from top to bottom will need to do an audit. Because sacking three managers in one season means we haven’t got it right. Something went wrong, is that managers, is that players is it ownership? We need to audit that and go through it all to see what went wrong.

"One thing I’m certainly not going to do is come out here and make excuses, we just haven’t been good enough basically.

"I’m 32 years old, I’ve a knee operation next week because I’ve been playing injured for the last month. I honestly don’t know if this is going to be my last game at Watford or in the Premier League. I don’t know, it’s too early to talk about that and it’s not about me it’s about the people at the club who work at the club and will be affected. I’ll take a few days away, assess and take some grief online no doubt.

"But you know if I do ultimately stop playing for Watford as of now I’ve had a great run, next week or the week after is going to be 10 years at this club. That don’t happen often, I think the whole country has had enough of Covid and I’m right in that. Basicallly I’m going to go and get my knee sorted and go and spend some time with my family and at the end of the day they’re the only people whose opinions I care about. If someone wants to give me grief online then please do it. I’m a big boy with big shoulders and I’ve had some real world issues so getting some stick online doesn’t bother me.

"I have had my say in the dressing room trying to be as positive and as real as I can be, players come and go fans and clubs and legacies will be there a lot longer than us. The bigger picture is the club, the people whose jobs are here and how we can safeguard those. I’m sorry if I didn’t answer your question but I don’t want to make it about me or the other players, we know we haven’t been good enough the table reflects that. But it’s all about re-building and if this is my last game for the club I’ve had a good run. Highest of highs and lowest of the lows, this will be the lowest one yet."

Guardian Article tonight making the point we stuck with 4-3-2-1 too long and Deeney looks better in a front two, and that with a more attacking formation we'd have stayed up...

Even saying we maybe kept Pearson too long

To be fair to him. You cannot argue with what he has said. Managers and fatty need to be more accountable in why he was continually being picked to play upfront by himself. He cannot do that. Or played after indifferent performances or unfit. You never as a manager ever play an unfit player in the hope that they will pull something off. Better a less gifted but fully fit player than the opposite.

Playing to our strengths. We are a far better team attacking than defending. Why we have sat back in so many games is pretty sad. The chess match at Turf Moor sticks out when NP seemed to be calculating that Burnley would collapse in the second half. They didn't but he kept the same hoofball tactics. We're not a Boothroyd team. We have able technical players and we never utilized them properly.

Because our defence is atrocious. As we saw today (and in our matches at the start of this season) most of the time when we go gung-ho in games we concede very quickly due to the massive gaps that appear in our defence. We brought in QSF earlier in the season because we needed to try and halt the deluge of conceded goals by any means possible.

Given the lack of physical preparation we have not defended from the front compared to last season. Our average positions comparison should be clear as chalk and cheese too. It is not a question of gung ho we have been defending poorly when defending in depth. Particularly in the ability to track runs off the ball.

Ironically now we have gone down it might not be such a bad idea to keep Troy Deeney in our team for next season to help us bounce straight back and even more ironically Andre Grey too.

Deeney really has a chip on his shoulder about ‘online’. He regularly mentions it which is almost unique amongst professional footballers, most are mentally strong enough to not care and give any criticism acknowledgement. He says he doesn’t care about it, but then mentions it more than once in this interview so he clearly does care about it a lot.
