My company has a box at Spurs and so I took a customer to Spurs vs Watford. The customer said he was a massive Spurs fan. We were having lunch in the Steve Perryman lounge and this chap came over to have a chat with us. Lovely fella but my customer remained strangely quiet. After he had gone I asked why he didn't say anything and he said he had no idea who it was. It was Ossie Ardiles!!

In my immediate vicinity we have a couple Liverpool, a couple Spurs, one Brentford, one Chelsea, one Palace and one Leeds. Since the Blackburn fan retired last month, I'm the only non-PL supporter.

Not actually work related as I live in Finland, but I am going to few pints and football quiz tomorrow with friends who support Qpr, Man City, Fulham, HSV and West Ham. They are all good bunch of lads who I admire and respect them as supporters. The Spam fan is nowadays more to the non league football as he stopped following after them moving to a new stadium. It was totally different world. Hats of!

I also talk regularly to Liverpool, Arsenal and Luton (!) supporter.

Football has a chance to connect and show respect to other people!

I had a new boss start a couple of months ago, he’s originally from Dunstable so I feared the worst. Turns out it was worse than I imagine, “oh I don’t really follow anyone”.

Well this is gunna be f**king fun!

All Leicester fans for me. Saves on time.

The postie is a plastic Liverpool fan so I know not to be out front between 11 and half 11. He actually went to a game at Anfield this season and saw Salah score. It’s quite a yarn he spins….

Daily deliveries from lorry drivers with a rasping East Midlands drawl and a cabin full of Man U or Chelsea tat. Makes me sick. Is it bad that I immediately judge people as being shallow idiots if I suspect them of being a glory hunter?

Not at all. If you're being kind, you could say they were just misguided, weak or simple.

I tolerate the London club glory hunters as they are relatively local and most I know do go to maybe one or 2 games a year.

I know a lifelong, diehard Liverpool who is about 37 and only made his first trip to Anfield this year. It's just weird.

Then there's others like my daughter's football manager who I coach with. From Watford, huge Liverpool fan and goes fairly regularly, but has no ties to the area. Top bloke, but my respect for him did drop when he once said that he was sat in the home end when we beat them 3-0, and the bloke next to him was going nuts with delight. Said that "He was so over the top, I nearly said something to him".

You're in the f---ing home end!! So many are so dismissive and patronising about Watford, despite having chosen an easy, safe option that essentially renders them a tourist.

    Haha! Unbelievable.

There’s a couple who sit next to us at the KP, probably in their seventies who have inexplicably raised a plastic Liverpool fan. I know this because he takes his dad’s ticket when we play them at home.

I know not everyone grew up with someone who would take them to games or encourage them to support a local club even if they’re **** but I don’t understand what people get out of watching a team solely on Sky and then bragging as if they themselves are somehow part of any success.

The only lad I know with the "rasping East Midlands drawl" is the son of one of my school mates. His dad left Watford for Leicester Poly, as was, in the 80s and stayed in the area. (As an aside my mate and his wife bought their first house on Luther Street for obvious reasons)

The poor lad was turned from being a Leicester fan as a kid to being a Watford fan as a teenager around 2015 thus missing out on the phenomenal events that followed.

Normally I would commend such actions from his father but this once I feel the lad would have been better served not following his father's advice.

Quite agree. I've posted about this before, but essentially older fans have been brought up on the idea that being a football fan means going regularly to games and (usually) supporting your local team. We haven't quite yet grasped the idea that there is a whole new generation who are quite comfortable that it means sitting in front of a screen to watch their chosen 'big' team every week.

We are getting no choice but to accept it. All football seems to be set up now for the armchair watchers with no consideration for the actual game attending supporters.

I like the international ones that are incredibly passionate about their home clubs like PAOK Thessaloniki, St Pauli and Racing Club.

So much more interesting than PL top 6 yawnmongery.

Work in South Wales, so obviously Cardiff and Swansea fans. One guy from London whose a Chelsea supporter and a handful of Liverpool fans. And a Wrexham fan who will tell you that it won't be long before they are Premier League.

Back in the 80's used to work in London and sat opposite a L#t#n fan. We went to games to derby games together and went to own ends during the game.
Live now in Sussex, quite a few Chelsea fans around but do work with a fellow Watford Season Ticket holder.
