Yes I'm saying the here and now signings haven't been great (to say the least in many cases). I think the investment type signings have provided a good return and decent funds to utilise on the here-and-now, but the funds haven't then been used well. maybe Chak and exception last season ? Maybe we are saying the same thing ?
Norwich are in the same boat as us, overspent (particularly on wages) the last 2 years and no more parachute payments. The finances in the championship are shocking, simply madness for most clubs
We'll be next I have little doubt. Give it 12-24 months and the EFL will be restricting our transfer activity while the fans anxiously await Gino's next move.
Might be worth listening to the highlights of tonight’s show - they actually hold the club to account unlike the FTRE sycophants.
Oh I know. Peter does a brilliant job as the vocal point of the group - really has the club's interest at heart. Unlike somebody else in Austria...
Agree Skyla. I’ve started listening to DNSYE last season and it’s a refreshing and honest take. Peter and Justin are excellent.
The PL ruined us. Gino didn’t have a clue how to spend the extra money and got his pants pulled down with inflated transfers and wages in return for utter crap namely our 2 most expensive signings. We are still paying the price for this failure today and I think the club is having to shave the squad constantly just to get back to level ground. Football revolves around player trading and Gino has proven that he can earn large profits on players. However, Gino can’t build a team to compete right now and never has been able to. Fling enough **** at a wall, some will stick. This works for players and managers. It just so happens that Gino is not flinging much **** nowadays and we are struggling with it. It wasn’t uncommon to get at least 10 new faces through the door, no matter what obscure part of the world they came from. Gino is feeling the pinch for sure and i just hope we survive long enough to be able to rebuild
Gino and Duxbury are only taking us further down - genuinely our only hope is he sells the club - Gino is just not interested in us anymore. He blew the chance to establish us in the Prem like Brighton have …. Best of the rest …. We will be lucky to be best of League One at this rate
I would be perfectly happy for us to be a League One club, if it meant the back of Dux and Gino, on the assumption we had a stable new ownership of course. Even if we had just a little bit more in the kitty than we do now under a new ownership, there is no harm in doing a proper "rebuild" with a new ownership who cares about the club and wants us to succeed. I wouldn't care if we didn't get back into the PL for a few more seasons. Clearly not ready now and won't be ready next season (unless a miracle happens). I honestly do think though, if we were literally on the verge of relegation he would sell up to the first bidder he could get, take back his loan and put full stock into Udinese. It would hurt us financially sure, but as long as we have enough to scrape by with more or less all debts cleared we could start to build again. Of course I do not want this senerio to happen, and I hope Clevs can get us to a level we are comfortable and try to establish a financial base in this division. But I agree with RM79, I honestly feel he has fallen out of love with Watford now, and as a club we are feeling it already. He won't walk away without his owner debt repaid that's for sure, and until we have enough reserve to pay that back I think he's playing a waiting game and doing the bare minimum to keep us afloat until that time comes.
We would have less in the kitty in League One unless this new owner was prepared to bankroll the club. ATM we are just another QPR/Preston. In league one we would just be another Peterborough/ Charlton. Only the return of GT got us back to the 2nd tier last time we dropped after we had settled back at that level under Jackett. He won’t be coming back a third time !
Happy in league 1? Never understood this take. There were people who said they would be happier in the Championship when we were a PL side. Fair to say most are not happy. To be happy in a league below the one you’re in means you’re happy to fail
On the assumption it got Gino/Dux out the club, but of course I want us to stay a Championship club at the very least. However there is an avenue I forgot to explore which is Gino may even remain if we did get relegated which more or less transfers all I said as moot anyway.
If we were relegated his investment would be rock bottom valuation so very unlikely to sell. Conversely, if we were to win promotion again at some point, I would think he now realises he can't fund a genuine attempt to stay up and so would either sell at a decent valuation, or bring in a new investor with the necessary funds.
I would like a change of ownership as well but not sure getting relegated is the way to do it. The list of possible investors would reduce if we went to League 1
I think if we went down he is less likely to sell as the value will be lower. We actually need to be successful to get him a decent amount of money although the lack of transfer activity suggests he doesn't understand that
I expect the lack of transfer activity is because he doesn't have the funds, and can't borrow any longer due to reduced revenues.
Although I have absolutely no proof of this and is just a random shot in the dark, I think Gino is secretly hoarding some/most/all of the available transfer window funds that are left over to service his owner debt. Once he has that, then the club have repaid what he personally put into it to begin with, giving him even less reason to stick around. He could then well sell below his original asking price (if relelgation did happen) and wouldn't care as much. Again - my own personal take on what is going on behind closed doors.
If Pozzo had enough of Watford and couldn’t find a buyer that would recoup his debt is he free to sell the ground and put the club into administration? not saying this is going to happen just like to understand if this is a possibility
I don't know about the legalities of it all, but even then would the value of Vicarage Road be close to what he's put into the club? I know there was talk that he had already borrowed against the ground in the past as equity - however I am unsure exactly how true this statement is/was.
Yes though of course investment doesn't necesarily mean more success on the pitch (eg Kalu etc) and does definitely mean more debt to repay....somehow!! I think if he thinks we have enough to stay up he will leave it at that given there is little difference financially in finishing 11th and 19th ?
I don’t think so. Nothing in hand to supply as evidence but don’t think and owner can just call in all loans and liquidate a club. I’m sure I’ve seen this scenario discussed about other clubs.
Agreed - there are protections in place against an owner basically asset stripping a club to repay their loans ahead of other creditors who are then left high and dry in administration....though I'm no expert in this field.
